Go on, what's your favourite comedy show/film and who is your favourite comedian? The comedian has to be in another program/film than the 1st stated.

My program/film would have to be Monty Python and my favourite comedian is Benny Hill. American comedy needs funny things to be said, English comedy needs nothing to be said, you know exactly what's going on and you don't need words to ruin it.

The Brits have it over the Yanks any day for straight comedy, although I do like a few of their comedy series. Hate the canned laughter though.

Loved shows like Green Wing and Coupling, very subtle humour. Never liked Benny Hill though, too silly! You're right though, hXc, the Brits can make you laugh with things like silly walks and looks rather than just words.

FIRST VOICE OVER: Eric Idle
SECOND VOICE OVER: Terry Gillam

The sketch:

(Cut to corner of cinema. A man in an ice-cream girl's uniform is standing in a spotlight with an ice-cream tray with an albatross on it.)
Man: Albatross! Albatross! Albatross!
(A cutomer approaches him.)
Customer: Two choc-ices please.
Man: I haven't got choc-ices. I only got the albatross. Albatross!
Customer: What flavour is it?
Man: It's a bird, innit. It's a bloody sea bird . .. it's not any bloody flavour. Albatross!
Customer: Do you get wafers with it?
Man: Course you don't get bloody wafers with it. Albatross!
Customer: How much is it?
Man: Ninepence.
Customer: I'll have two please.
Man: Gannet on a stick.
(The camera zooms past back onto the screen. On screen appears another 'Intermission' sign.)
First Voice Over: There will now be a very short...

'WINNER OF THE GOLDEN PALM, TORREMOLINOS'
'RAINWEAR THROUGH THE AGES'
'COMING SOON'
'AT THE JODRELL CINEMA, COCKFOSTERS'
Second Voice Over: The management regrets that it will not be showing a feature film this evening as it eats into the profits'
(Cut to the Queen on horseback; first few bars of National Anthem. Cut to Customer sitting in cinema seat clutching albatross.)
Customer: Well that's quite enough of that. And now a policeman near Rottingdeans ... Albatross!

It's just finished but we have been watching "A Pint of Lager and a Packet of Crisps". Bloody funny, British of Course. Men Behaving Badly are on again as it's replacement which is also pretty good. Watch Channel 4 each night from around 10.30pm and you will pick up on a bunch of comedies, all british. I do like some of the American stuff, like Team America, thats an all time classic. Um, kung Pow is pretty good also. Oh, and I do like Joanna Lumley.

The Americans do SITCOM... (SITuational COMedy - where they have to use laugh machines to make you think it's funny...)
The US does bloody fantastic stand-up comedy though!!! George Carlin, Robin Williams, etc....

BRILLIANT FILM! What about "theres something about Mary", that got me laughing.

Generally love British humour, grew up with Spike Milligan ( even read his books ), 2 Ronnies, Morecambe & Wise...

Canadian humour is also pretty good, they do alotta "quirky" stuff. Check out TV2 11pm Monday/Tues? for "Trailer Park Boys". If ya liked "Back of the Y" you'll appreciate this deliberate B-grade offering...

I forgot Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps - that was brilliant but hardly anyone saw it because it was on at about 11.30pm. I loved Rab C Nesbitt when I was in the UK but I'm not sure if anyone would understand his accent if they ran it here! And what about Red Dwarf?

All the old Carry On films were great in their day, and Doctor in the House, Open All Hours, that kind of stuff. Shame they mostly make crap nowadays, with so-called celebrities fronting reality shows deemed as entertainment.

Love the Family Guy.
What I love about it is that it is like the Simpsons, but takes gags one step further. Diff to explain but if homer said "Remember the last time this happened"...FG would actually show you the last time it happened, and it would be bloody funny.

Nope, FG funniest thing on TV at the mo (that I watch anyway).

Scrubs is also quite funny...bit too accessable for me though.

Used to think British comody was easliy the best, all the shows already mentioned (and I'd add The Royale Family) but some American sit-com are also excellent, Scrubs, Frasier, Friends, Family Guy, Simpson........ remember MASH? The biggest problem I find with the American stuff is they either flog it to death (ie they don't realise when they've run out of ideas) or they mainstream it and "tone it down" to suit a wider audience.

For stand-up comedy there's Billy (of course) but Ben Elton has also had me in stiches. From America, has anyone seen thst "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" which is shown on SKY from time to time? It features four really funny American (southern) stand-up comedians.

Hi y'all! I'll be formally introducing myself in the new biker forum soon, but the poll caught my eye first!

I'm definitely a brit-comedy fan - grew up with the Blackadders and Monty's, Red Dwarf, Hale & Pace etc... Ben Elton I think is one of the most underrated live comedians out there - go and get his Motorvation video!!! Black Books is one of the best around at the moment... mmm fizzy good! And Green Wing... the first show I saw left me both amused and confused, it's an odd show, yet brilliant at the same time.

On the American side - there's 3 shows I can't get enough of. Scrubs (Dr Cox is my patron saint :p ), Family Guy, and Duckman. Bring back Duckman!!!
