Fairing repairs

Bugger

Put the front of my mudguard under a slow car yesterday arvo (into his bumper after I thought he'd pulled off before I turned around to check). :brick::bash:

I've got a bit of a crack on either side so its all still attached but it needs fixing/glueing and repainting.

Anyone got somewhere they could recommend that does good cheap fairing repairs and/or paint work?

I have just got my bike back from been painted yesterday, I went to a guy recommended to my be leading edge tyres. his name is Lance from BJ painters, painted my whole bike for $600 I did most of the donkey work, removed stickers, sanded bike and bogging, he fixed up the bogging and re-sanded, made a good job of it as well, can not even feel the dents in the tank. he is on the shore, ph 4431443, this was about the cheapest around, these guys do bikes and cars..

I had to go to Grill and bumper on Archers rd to weld the fairings as I cound not find find any welding stuff in any stores, crack on mubgaurd, mounted lugs on air intakes and r/fairing(4 in total) fixed 3 crackes in faiing $80 ph 4445553

Ring Brent at Spectrum - he did the work on my bike when I had a big off (yellow VTR), I am not sure who they use for the panel work - but they do use Reflections for the paint work (agree, expensive - but f***en fantastic job)....he could point you in the right direction.

Look for a good plastic welder - there is a good one in Panmure - I will chase his name up for you

Reflections do plastic welding - well I think they do - had a seat fairing done there a few years ago. They are good!

shit guys! farking $80 for 3 odd repairs plastic welding?

DIY! seriously, im only 17 and have been shown a few times how to do it, and ive done it on everything all over the place (cars @ work like headlight assemblies, side covers for my GPZ750, GS1000, XL250, fairing for the GS1000).

just rip out a cheapie soldering iron, take the tip out, flip it round, grind it to look like a flat head screwdriver, and bobs ur uncle! sometimes i dont even need extra plastic with side covers etc, if they are thick enuf, just on the backside u do a technique, its not very strong, if i use extra plastic i can get stuff real strong.

my advice, save some money, find a few bits of old plastic, play around a bit, get used to it, and then do the repaires all on the inside of fairing etc, then sand/bog the crackline (if any/much)

its heaps of fun and the plastic burning smells ooooo soo good:)

p.s im not volunteering,  just my luck to burn holes thru stuff :P

Kwaka-kid, could of used your advice 2 weeks ago.

I did look around for some gears at the local repco/motomail and every other hardware shop, no seemed to be able to give any advice, did not know all you need is a souldering iron, I have a soldering iron at home with a rod that looks like a flat head screw drive.

did most of the other work and even considered doing the paint job myself, maybe next time.

but as i said, PRACTISE fist with a coupla peices of plastic, and start collecting odd offcuts of different plastics and put them in a PLASTIC WELD labelld icecream container like in my workshop :) (aloong with about 100 other icecream box's:)

anyways, if you would all like to go over to my post (which i havent made yet but i will) in whatever section i shud post a PROBLEM with my bike in, and advise me on a good place to go/costs id much appriciate it :) -posting now...

Well, today I had my first plastic welding experience.
My chainsaw had a crack in it's fuel tank, so I thought I'ld try a "KK" on it.
Low and behold, it works! Just used a pointy end soldering iron, and even found a spray can lid of the right colour to add some extra plastic into it. The heat smuged it all together, and after sanding it off, it looked right professional! No leaks. Saved myself $30. Well done that man! :Punk:

lol(shakes head), glad you're fine CK. grille & bumper exchange do pretty good work. The consensus is that Larry is the man when it comes to repainting bikes. The paint is quite fancy on the gixxers with the white being a metallic pearl consisting of 2/3 layers etc. as does the yellow & probably the purple also. hopefully he won't have to redo all three colours.

yeah, what a bugger.. this thread has become relevant to me again! i only have a small crack in one front fairing (plastic weld and small touch up of the local area??) and might just go with touch up paint for the side until I have lots of money sitting around.
The yellow paint on the GSXR is definitely a bit special with its metallic somethingorother in it. I understand they can do it but that I'll need to buy genuine suzuki alstare replacement decals (all the purple/aqua bits) because they can't do the gradients required.
