Stolen helmet

Hola.

Left my bike in public carpark in Nelson overnight with Silver XL-Spirit Shoei helmet locked to the helmet clips under the rear seat.

You guessed - some friendly person jimmied out the clip and stole it. Will post pic of damage to clip later to show how easily this was done. Will never trust them again.

So if you have a nice looking and uninsured $1000 helmet think twice about locking it to your bike in this way.

And if anyone hears of a similar helmet for sale anywhere please let me know... I would like to check it out. If I find it, anyone is also welcome to help me persuade the person responsible that this was not a nice thing to do.

The clip on the Hornet is reasonably secure. So secure I never use it. Gotta be a reasonable compromise somewhere.

Yes - out on the town on a bar cruise and didn't want the hassle of dragging the lid everywhere, knocking it, getting kicked, etc - all of which would have been preferable to having it nicked. I got the bike home by ringing up a mate to come round and drop me off a spare.

Hopefully they'll tey and flick it off and then you catch then and put some 'identifying' marks on them!

Have you got a pic of the helmet at all???

I know it sounds silly to have a pic of the helmet lol....
but check out Cash Convertors or your local Auction places near you etc...
and take in the pic to show them...
as the ratbags may have tried to sell it there.

If you were going on a bar cruise, why take the bike rather than a taxi - and if you were planning on staying in town overnight, why not leave the bike where you were staying?

A wire cable through a full face helmet is the only way to stop them stealing it in a hurry. But having said that, I NEVER leave my helmet with my bike because I don't trust people not to touch it. Who would know if someone gave it a few whacks with something and wrecked its integrity?

I have a friend who works as a bouncer and he keeps complaining that he leaves his helmet on the bike and drunks wander into the carpark (any night of the week) and use the helmet as a urinal.

Even though I had never heard of this happening in real life until now, it was also one of my fears!

guy i was with in canada had a combination bicycle lock under the seat. we used that when the tourpak/sidebags were too full. i also stow the lid in my topbox when im going into town, mainly cos the weather is so unpredictable and it could rain without much warning. ive learned....a tightly rolld jacket can fit inside a closed lid, and a sweatshirt crammed around it, lol.


either way...good luck getting either your lid back, or revenge on the tossers that took it for a walk.

The best way to secure a helmet, apart from carrying it, is the Pacsafe helmet bag. They'll need bolt cutters to get it and it'll be protected from rain and stray goobers.
