Right so rang the bike shop due to the reason a fork seal is leaking on the new V11 Lemans.... Ohlins USD you beaut forks.
The guy that I spoke to whom I shall call the wanker tries telling me that Ohlins forks are meant to always have a oily residue on them.... 1st I have ever heard of this???
Anyway I said no... it is leaking he repeated his comments 2 more times I repeated my response 2 more times.
Why is one fork nice and dry and the other not I asked..... well cant remember his reply on that, so he wont book it in for a replacment (under warranty) I have to take time off work and go in there with the bike to show this wanker the problem.
Now this is the 3rd time I have made a claim on the bike (Its part of owning a rare exotic bike) and the 3rd time I have had to put up with this shit.
So tell me look at the pics and you guys say if this bike shop guy is a wanker... or if I am.... well ok we all know that I am but is he one as well, are the pics below normal... including the drip in the last pic???

Looks buggered to me. A seal must have gone. I've got two bikes with USD forks and if they leaked like that when new I'd be annoyed.
If you want a second opinion I'd say contact the Ohlins guru Robert Taylor at Hawera Motorcycles - contact details here http://www.haweramotor.com/

Some car systems do this to provide lubrication for the seals, ring Robert Taylor the NZ Ohlins dealer and ask him about it
Now this is the 3rd time I have made a claim on the bike (Its part of owning a rear exsotic bike) and the 3rd time I have had to put up with this shit.
rear and exsotic what fucking language did you type that in,it's only a V11 with a few extra bits

Nah that looks pretty normal to me. Come have a look at my rs forks on the weekend, look exactly the same, even straight after I put new seals in. I think its to reduce the friction from the sliders rubbing on the fork seals.

Forks will always have a slight film on them , but that is leaking . Robert Taylor is on holiday this week so try him next week Dude . Got my Fork seal done under warranty on my GSXR so would think been Ohlins they should aleast do the labour for free . Forks can leak if you have done a big wheelie then bottomed it out , as the oil when the fork is right at the bottom can get over the top of the seal & when it returns back to normal postion it can run down the inside of the seal till it has no more sitting on it . { Did this on mine after my seals where done } but I think it is leaking from the amount of fluid .

Well if sensei is right, make sure you pull a couple of mono's before arriving at the shop. Hang on - it's a guzzi - second thoughts i'll come round and we'll pick it up and drop it a few times
Looks farked to me - is it too late to get the VTR back? 15k and it never put a foot wrong (and it pulled mono's - wee ones but mono's!!)
The guy at the shop would be pushing shit uphill to pass that off as normal residue... !
I still rate sportzone as the best shop in chch - i'd have no worries if the SV dropped it's load
D'ya want em to tow you in on the SV? :2thumbsup

Having seen it first hand - the seal is weeping (this more than a slight film of oil). The person you spoke to D is being a bit of a tosser but wonder if a fork seal can be considered a warranty repair.

you'll need a fork lift to do that...hirequip should have a 4ton fork lift at a good daily hire rate...
and eric wood are arseholes......so is the motoguzzi dealer [masterton motorcycles] here that happens to sell kawasakis....that won't replace fork seals under warenty for the third time [both left and right seals went within 1 month of owning my klx] and still waiting for a return phone call after ringing three times...I'm gunna go in there and stir some shit next week

a friends MV Brutale developed a similar leak on one fork leg.Colemans replaced the seal immediately.
Not sure if they are Ohlins forks, but that any fork should "normally" leak is bullshit.

Yeah, while at the Glenorchy we (everybody but Dangerous) had a uh-oh gang meeting (you know, where you all standing around looking and pointing at the problem going "uh-oh" "uh-oh") and we looked at the leak and went uh-oh (but nobody was game to tell you). :killingme
All I can say is that the last time I saw that much oil around was when the Torrey Canyon ran aground in '66!!!

I would certainly expect it to be a warranty claim but the reason I wonder if it's a warranty repair is simply because the number of reasons for a leaking seal are many and varied. A number of which are beyond the control of the manufacturer. That is in itself enough for warranty exclusion.

That is devoid of oil leaks!
(Unlike the R1 I saw start up cold and run like a two-stroke for the first 1/2 minute - or does it not count if it 'leaks' out the exhaust!?)

its bullshit when shops treat you like this , if its a warranty they should just get it done in a timely fashion , we should always name and shame bad dealerships it might raise their game when they read it here .
i hate to harp on about suzuki but look at what i got , they fucked up and they gave me a free gixxer1000 k3 as a replacement and an apology and 1 year rego as part of the deal , then when i was a few days away from from my warranty expiring they did my replaced my swing arm bearings free after they pointed out the clause saying bearings arent a warranty item and that my bike looked like it had been thrashed , i love this kinda service and if suzuki made low performance bikes and honda made high performance bikes id still buy the suzuki cause a bike that doesnt go has no performance at all , cheers roadnsport and cheers suzuki nz ill keep coming back

"bearings arent a warranty item"
WTF, so suzuki wont warranty anything with moving parts cause it might wear out? I'd have thought bearings where the one thing you'd want under warranty
Thats bullshit. Do other makes do the same?

Yip got it in one I'd say, Mr Wanker had a look at the bike today after I figgered screw it I have to take a couple of hours of work.
well as it sat there a drop of oil fell to the ground and Mr Wanker put his fingers under the fork... and what do ya know, he had oil all over his prety fingers.
"Ohhhh" he says "thats not good" :argh: Is'ent that what I said, then he gave me the spele about how they are ment to have some residue on them... again
Anyway its all booked in to be replaced and Mr Wanker did say sorry that I had to bring it in so I'll give him credit for that. And I took the T shirt in to the shop that I won at the Glenorchy rally for best Euro bike and the staff in there said I could swap it for a Guzzi one (it was a Hog shirt) the Guzzi shirt was 3 times more costley so the Manager said shed take $20 of it..... awesome aye :)

I've never heard this thing about forks sposed to have residue on them. I know you get some from stiction leakage, but its a new thing to me that its 'supposed' to do that.
