Thought I would share with you how it feels to part of a pit team if you havent done it before.

About 6 months ago rolled up to a couple of guys (one I have known for quite some time) and said "Hey I love coming out to the races and am at most meetings in Taupo and Puke". Do you think you would like to have someone help you out? I cant do nuffin mechanical but can get times and sort your stuff - girls do good lunches ah? just wanted to generally try to help out.

After consideration they said yeah why not. So I bowl along get some times help them unload and pack up and try not to get in the way. As they have gotten to trust me (ie I havent dropped any of the bikes) ....yesterday I got to change wet weather tyres for dries...change a battery (ok after it was pointed out where the battery lives)...remove all sorts of stuff and put it back and got covered in oil and grease. Learnt a truck load in a small space of time about the mechanics of bikes. It may seem small to some of you but being part of the team ...well I cant describe it really.

Best of all I got to see these two guys get a second and a third in their races. Damn what a buzz. Met some mighty fine new peps yesterday and good too see some familiar faces out there.

Its the next best thing to being able to race.

Madduck learned very quickly being pit crew is like the song--"The Gambler'
"know when to hold up ...Know when to walk away ... Know when to run ""

I know exactly what you mean MD - I've been helping out a team in the Nationals at Teretonga and Levels, and will be doing so again this w/end at Ruapuna. And it's a bonus that he's racing a 748R!!
