What the hell?? Karangahake Gorge One of the nicest roads to legally have some fun and its gone went through there yesterday now a big thumbs down :argh:
I guess its to keep the number of white crosses down but man its annoying. Like the stretch from Hatfields beach to Wellsford - used to be great now an 80KM zone :(

Got to look at it from their point of view
Roads are to get people from A to B, not to have fun on! That's what the track is for.

I bet anything it WILL NOT reduce accidents. So what will they do when 80k's doesn't work? Reduce it to 60? Then what?

Well gotta say, since when did a dble yellow line and 80km speed limit deter a biker? (disclaimer:in no way do I endorse this sort of behaviour...:devil2: :innocent: ) And anyway how the hell is a cop gonna pursue ya thru there? Plus theres really only a couple of obvious places where a speed camera wagon could be parked...
I know some people may view my attitude as irresponsible but the only life I ever put at risk is my own!:sunny: :ride: :woohoo:

Surely not the whole way:eek5: . <_< Bloody stupid if it is as it'll only raise peoples frustrations and cause nutters to attempt dumb arsed over taking manouveres. Surely overtaking lanes are the way to go to keep it all flowing nice 'n safe

By all correct me if I'm wrong, but double yellow lines only mean you cant cross over them, not that you cant over take. You just have to overtake without crossing the centreline.

well you wouldnt want them to do something logical like improve our roads to reduce deaths? no the will just lower the limit, knowing people will continue to drive at 100 and die, but now they get more revenue!!

Karangahake Gorge speed limit 100km most people do 60-80km
Karangahake Gorge speed limit 80km does this mean people will do 40-60km?

Very good point! How many people actually manage the top speed thru' there? (Obviously not talking about bikes...)

I always found the Karangahake Gorge abit of a tease.
I know it's alot further away, but you just can't beat the Waioeka George.
58 k's of corners.

That has to be my favourite piece of road that I have ridden a bike on... adrenaline factor is higher and the seven fiddy sounds evil through the gorge itself.... although I have had 2/3 of my accidents there I just keep going back  :woohoo: :shit:

Delicious is an understatement.
Thinking of 58 K's of reliable even surface, corners that are marked at 75K (so you don't have to slow down) and no traffic.::love:

The Mungamuka gorge eats all these other places for dead,,,pity it's so bloody far away is all.
We're talking over 100 smooth flowing corners in around thirty Kms,I've tried counting them all a few times but keep losing my count due to over excitment,,,or sumint.
As for 80 kms,Oh well used to be that everywhere so we're still in front,,aaaand there's nothing wrong with the roads,,they are in fact constantly getting better.
It's just the people using them can't keep up with the capabilitys of modern vehicules,an sorry that means bikes as well.
IM not so HO.

That's the one, make the trip it's well worth it.
An we're not joking for a change,I've ridden most of the north islands roads and it's just way out in front.
The Wiaoeka is a good road but the on going road works, plus the rocks fulling onto the road from above make it not as good now as it has been.
I Drive both a lest once a month.:blip:

Rumour has it sAsLEX that the LTSA plan to introduce a "fail safe" RFRP (Road Fatality Reduction Plan.):yeah:
This will consist of a man preceeding every motor vehicle while holding a raised red flag. As a side effect, the speed limit will be reduced to approx 6.44 kph (4 mph):(

Why the hell don't they sort out the corners with bald patches of seal that are like riding on a non stick frypan in the wet, loose marbles left over from road works, corners with funny cambers from slips or subsidence, bad seal repairs etc..... There always quick to quote speed, tiredness etc as causes - What percentage of accidents are caused every year from poor road surfacing?? Ah yeah but if you were traveling at 99KMH you wouldn't have drifted accross the bald seal into the oncomming car!
I wouldn't mind paying an extra hundred bucks a year if someone could promise me all that would end.

Yep,used to be 50mph (80kph) I didn't have a problem with it back then.Road conditions are far superior to what was around 20 or 30 years ago - the soft tar is just what happens on those types of roads...we used to call it ''bleeding'' when the tar melted and you'd end up with tar on the soles of your bare feet, the road was so hot it'd burn. They used to throw sand on the bleeding tar in my area when I was a young hoon riding bikes like a lunitic - I spun a few cars out on it,but never dropped a bike....we thought it was fun, never thought to ever complain about it!

Very few in the statistics they create I bet.
What I love is how they put manholes on the apexs of corners, then not pleased with one they put two or three there, and then if that wasn't bad enough they have the manhole an inch or three below the level of the road surface. Brilliant!

If you fell off, you would have been going too fast for the conditions.

The Gorge is between Paeroa and Waihi. Nice ride, my old stomping ground. Also you can turn off into the Old Tauranga road and aviod Waihi on the way to Tauranga.
word of advice, don't try to race the local cops through the gorge, they love hoofing the gorge too.

Doing that road on a Superduke, or any grunty naked, has got to be bike nirvana.
