View Full Version : An offer I couldn't refuse.

What a turn of events a single phone call can make. Was out at the local track last Friday putting in some laps on my 750. While we were out there I received a call from a bike dealer informing me a guy in town was in desperate need of cash and needed to sell his K2 GSXR1000, but wanted to trade a bike. I said I'd think about, but in all honesty I really didn't. The price suggested that I would have to pay was appealing, but I was quite happy with what I already had.

Two days later I receive a txt from this guy asking if I was interested, I didn't show much interest but agreed to meet him at his house. So imdying and I went visiting, and found an absolutely mint bike with hardly a mark on it travelled only 11k km. It had a yoshi carbo tri-oval, crash bungs, an aftermarket blade (which is not to my liking, but he's got the original anyway.) We talked for a while about all things biking, looked at each others bikes, and I left saying I'd get in contact.

My interest was now on the rise, this was an opportunity to update 5yrs, come back 46,000km, go down 10kg and come up by about 35hp all for a very sharp deal. I talked it over with the wife and decided I'd look more seriously into it. Ownership history of the bike checked out, wasn't reported stolen and it had no money owing on it. It's Christchurch new and it's history was known and positive. So I contacted him to see if it was still available, made an offer and had it accepted! I now owned a 2002 GSXR1000 in blue and white! I could hardly sleep last night, felt like a kid at xmas. He brought it around today, I paid him his money and did some paper work. Converted it to 'right hand drive tonight at imdying's house and rode it for the first time home tonight. Haven't had a chance to open her up yet, but gave it a couple of tweaks on the way home and was blown away. The ride is so much nicer than my 750, the suspension far improved from what I'm used to. All in all, I'm fucking rapt. Just can't wait to get it out for a decent ride, up for another track day next week Bren?!?

Oh yeah, I parted with my bike and $3300 to do the deal.

BTW- You can see what I mean about the blade. Would be great for touring, but I'm going to put the original back on asap. The third pic, could this be the only GSXR1000 in the NZ set up for a onearmed rider??:spudbooge

Right place, right time. Enjoy.

The lever for the right thumb is the clutch? Where do you place the indicators and horn buttons?

Hot bike man... nice setup scheme as well... just a question: what do you do in the situation a tankslappers arises? I don't know how severe they are on damped bikes... but yeah.. (nice ride!).

Looks sweet OAB! Well done, it looks good. I like the fairing blade, looks like a SBK bike with that on.

Nice one OAB. Definitely a score there, because it's on Gixxer that's unlikely to have been thrashed by WT, being down that end of the country and all.

Wow, score! Nice bike for a damn good price if you're talking about overall condition and kms etc. Not that I know what the condition of your 750 is / was. Still, nice upgrade, nice pics! Undecided on the blade myself... but always been a fan of keeping it OEM anyway usually.

Nice work :-)

You're going to have a lot of fun on that
please don't get carried away and loose your license.. keep the looney speeds for the track *worried look*

onearmedbandit
20th January 2006, 12:24
Thanks guys! It's effing awesome, the power from low down is simply unreal, a real license loser if you're not careful. Which is what I am doing, being careful. Been down that path before, no need to go there again. I'll be using her a lot on the track, otherwise also a daily commuter and trips out of town. But the crazy riding will be saved for the track.

The blade is starting to grow on me, also it seperates it from other bikes. I'll keep it on for the mean time, but like I said I've got the orginal there.

My last bike was mint, complimented on it by other riders and the local Suzuki dealer. However it was now 9yrs old (1997 model) travelled 57,000km. So even just going up 5yrs and down 46,000km was worth the 3300, plus the extra power, lighter weight, better suspension, newer styling. Like I said, an offer I couldn't refuse. I still expect to wake up and find it all a dream...

Seen him blatting round ruapuna on vid, shame some little 125 kept passing him!, otherwise was damn impressive for a one arm dude

onearmedbandit
20th January 2006, 19:03
Hey, I challenge almost anyone to keep up with a RS125 on slicks through the midfield of Ruapuna on a road tyre shod roadbike!

I'm not quick, just happy to be on a bike fullstop. I love tearing it up as much as most do, and I live for big lean angles. I take pride in getting both my tyres to the edge and beyond, but I've got a lot more pratice to do before I would properly consider myself quick. Thanks none the less though TonyB.

I think out of the 3000+ members on this site, you could count those who are 'properly quick' on your fingers and toes. Probably wouldn't even need to take your shoes off actually. By 'properly quick' I'm talking as fast as a GOOD racer.

Oh yeah, took her out for a ride to Lincoln tonight. Suffice to say this thing is incredibly quick, stupid quick, and I haven't even fully loosened the reins yet!! Swearing in your helmet quick. It is also the first bike to make me laugh in my helmet when carving up corners. You look it goes, no fuss and what seems look no input. It just does it, and inspires shed loads of confidence at the same time. I'm still coming to grips with the change in bike feel at the moment let alone the change in the power and the way it's delivered, so I'm taking it quite easy winding on the throttle out of corners, especially after the back came way out on the 750 at the track last week. Patience is required.

Mate, that is an absolute beast, I am soooo jealous. I still love that Suzuki blue/white colour combo, I guess it dates back to my love of G's.

Excuse my ignorance, and complete lack of knowledge of any bike past 1998, but what the hell is that lever on the tank side of the handlebars in the last pic?. That does'nt compute

onearmedbandit

LMAO! Sorry Kronos, let me explain. I paralysed my left arm in a motorcycle accident in 1997, so I have converted the clutch to the right clip-on. I have no use of my left arm whatsoever so I keep it tucked up under my leathers. Hence the extra lever on the bike!

Don't worry, I inflicted minimal pain on her. Just took the shovel sized rear fender off it and raised the plate right up under the tail light. Looks sooo much cleaner in the back and gives it a new look, much more aggressive head up arse down stance. Cost? $0.
