Laser false alarms

Somewhere deep in the mire of radar detector threads there was some talk of false laser alerts in bright sunlight.
I had the same problem when the sun was high in the sky at certain angles (i.e. the alarm would always go off on a particular bit of road around a particular time of day)
After a miniscule amount of thought, I covered the rearward laser sensor on my Escort with duct tape (this sensor, aside from marketing value, being quite worthless as far as I can figure), and 2 months on have had no false laser alerts.

I get them off illuminated signs on the m/way, certain types on tail lights and neon signs and sometimes light diffusion from rain on the screen. Not enough to be a worry though.

Illuminated motorway signs (LED),neon signs,sunlight diffracted through raindrops on the windsreen or through a bike's windsreen,can all cause false alarms.The latter 2 examples vehicle vibration plays a part in making the received light appear to be modulated (the property the detector is looking for)
In the case of the first 2 examples the light is moduled by the light sources power supply.
False positives can be lived with.False negatives are expensive.

Strangely, if you mask the front or rear laser sensor on a V1,you get continuous falses.
I have had the rear detector on the V1 give an valid alarm as I travelled away from a cop (about 100m ) although my body was blocking the direct line of sight.

My V1 gives me a few falsies each ride but not enough to bother me. Certain 4wd (I,ve posted this before the uglier the more likely to trigger my V1). Trucks/vans with RT in use I think is another cause. Sometimes other cars with detectors but these are always a weak and shortlived signal. There are a couple of places on the m/way where every time I pass the same spot I get a falsie. I think its the large cement/steel structures but can't explain why that would do zip? Even a bend on the Rimutaka Hill that seems to trigger it half the time I pass?

Two Mates have V1s and never get any false alarms- mental note, switch detectors when they are not looking.

Surprised me how well the The rear V1 detection works with no blockage from the riders body.
Real alerts are strong and persistent
