I think the guy most probably ment that it should not be called a busa, since they restricted them in 2001...the new ones don't perform as well as the old ones..

In a rather brilliant marketing strategy Suzuki said it would never build a faster bike and would discontinue the line, Kyoto convention Blah greenhouse gasses blah etc.

They followed this up with not launching the 2002 until 2002 instead of the traditional August 2001 product availability.

When I bought my 2004 last year there were NO 2005 models on the market and Superbike (among other titles) was claiming the end of an era. Again this was blamed on emmision controls and no need to go that fast.

6 months later the 2006 was on the market, but wait 2005 are on runout having only been available for a few months.

The skeptics among us are no doubt screaming conspiracy, oops marketing.
But is there a greater truth?
When Suzuki said there would be no 2002 the ZXR12 had not been launched.
Before the 2002 hit the ground every major magazine had claimed that the 12 was the new daddy.
Again in 2005.....
Given the impending arrival of the zx14rr (claims are stronger, faster, lighter, smaller). I am possitively drooling while I wait for the dust to settle on that punchup.

All good for me..... I may never use all of the horses at once, short of a free track day (lol), but as long as there are manufacturers fighting over who can make the most ridiculously fast/big bike there will always be bikes that don't give me wedgies.:shake:

In conclusion: the Hayabusa will continue to be developed untill it can be developed no more, another manufacturer stamps it into the ground, or no one else tries to compete.

I think the guy most probably ment that it should not be called a busa, since they restricted them in 2001...the new ones don't perform as well as the old ones..
That might depend on spec.
My understanding is that standard spec are restricted to 180mph and 160hp.
restricted models were intended for counties with restriction requirements eg Australia, Europe. There were unrestricted models shipped to parts of the US.
My Canadian spec does not run out wind before the DYNO runs out at 160~ ps 270~kmph.
It is also my understanding that the "extra power" of the pro 2001 is a by product of crap fuel injection. The power curve is a lot less linear and seems faster, top speed in standard trim is the same or lower but the vehicle was a lot less reliable / rideable than a current model.
When i say less reliable I mean two runs under Identical conditions could yeild results so far apart that you would not think they were recorded on the same bike.

Keep in mind my 2004 will happily do 130kmph in first... without panting.
Forget where you are seated and youy can lose your license in 5 seconds... literally. (3.5 sec 0-100 is typical and too easily achieved).
Derestricting can be achived easily, if you are not interested in warranty, or you can buy an unrestricted "head" unit.

I've seen the CBR1000RR advertised under the fireblade name, and the 'bird seems to have a 2005 model, I assume they're still on sale new...
