Well even if I say it myself I am quite impressed with the finished product.

In order to get to this point I have had a week running around sizing and sourcing stuff. And this week I have just got down and made them.

Still a picture paints a thousand words so here's a few pics modelled by my tank like FZR.
243392438024342

The specs are as follows. 3/4" pipe not tube, i.e. 2.6mm wall thickness (so they are stronger than normal stands). 100 mm solid nylon wheels, which are bigger than most wheels that you get with stands; solid 19mm steel for the lifter arms (i.e chunky), locking knob insides and threads are cast together so that knob won't break off. Lifter supports can be taken out if required as are secured by drilled and tapped M6 machine screws. Rubber pads on the lifting angles to protect your paintwork. I put a small bend in at the far end so you can get your hand underneath. After all this strength that I put into them they actually weigh pretty much the same as one you get in a shop maybe a little heavier. Overal I am very happy!

Now a few of you have said you are interested, which is great. I said about $100. To be honest if I sell them for that my labour works out at minimum wage for this week. So what I will say is that they cost $100 but if you think they are worth more just pay me what you think is right. No sweat.

You can come round if you want and size em up. Also if you have something particularly different that you want a custom stand made for I maybe be able to help.

Whatever.:msn-wink:

Those look top notch, I'm pretty keen on one of them. Do you think they will be all right for my ZXR though? If it's cool with you I'd like to come by sometime and try it.

yeah, I would like to come round some time soonish to have a look see - how it fits, any weight issues etc etc. I need to oil my chain soon, and the bike didn't come with a centre stand (not that I wanted one).

Steved just been in and bought one.

Sized it against his little 250. Just fit. Looks like the stands can do 250's up.

Stand can be adjusted to fit practically fit any bike tiddlers to monsters.

I popped my bike onto the stand and lubed and tensioned my chain for the first time in too long. I also found out that my rear-brake pads are constantly rubbing on the rotor. That's another 2kph to the top speed right there! Invaluable!

Thanks Fraser. A good project for you and a good product for me.

Paint ,:msn-wink: prime or powdercoated?
and also, whats the freight to napier? no need to package it I am sure the couriers would take it just with a tag on it or a sticker

Ok I have made enquiries with 3 different courier companies. Best I got is with NZ couriers at a flat rate of $12 for North Island. So cost to you is stand plus $12.

Giday Frazer,

I will have one of these, if you still got one.

They look real good man - well done.
Tried to get in contact with some one else on KB a while back who was building paddock stands - but to no avail.

Have you had an engineering tought as to fitting adjustable Y end fittings that work with swing arm stand 'bobbins' ?? If so would be keen for that as well.

Let me know if you have had some one in to size up an R1, and if the fit was sweet.
If you haven't fit one to a R1, I will get one anyways, and see if it does the business.
You said $12,- for courier Nth Isalnd. maybe you would like to ask the courier company what a Sth island (west coast) freight sticker would be.

I got you cell number so will either PM or give you a call

Cheers

Yes I am looking into the bobbin option.

I haven't fit one to an R1 yet. I'd be very surprised if it didn't fit. I used to have the same model and colour as your one. Sweet bike man.

I'll get back to you with a freight cost.

Thankee, both on the bike and the stand. Rather glad my pipe is so loud... you were able to come out and identify yourself. :Punk:

Nice neighbourhood too... being pathetic at getting places for the first time, I got a good look see around... I completely missed the SH17 turnoff... wondering how much further when I see the road above me. :thud: Got to go all the way around, then, coming home, I almost missed the motorway twice :blank: (first turned into albany mega centre, then almost went past the turn... sheesh)

Dunno what was with the bike either... it cut out on me turning into Bawden Rd (although you probably heard :D). And despite your amazement, the stand got home without a single murmur... would have forgotten about it, if it wasn't visible in the mirrors.

And next time (when I get my bobbin attachments) could you please arrange some nice weather?? :weird:

No worries mate. Nice to meet you and what a nice bike! Wanna swap.

to help ol Fraser, but more importantly:

How is it going with the bobbin arms?? With the a/m exhaust, a bolts for it, its tight fit for the stand to get a place. And since I have bobbins already...

Where are my bobbin arms??

Other than that, stand is working fine.... holding the bike as it should

If you need a bike to model off, I'm happy to help... just need to find the stupid SH17 turnoff this time

swanman

Working on it. Have to get the bobbin lifters laser cut etc. takes time etc...Maybe if you take your bobbins off for the moment you would have more room on the swingarm. Just an idea.

Yep! I think i will be keen on one of these! I also have an R1 and would like one with the bobbin arms. (i will also need the bobins! Any ideas where to get em from? and how much?)

Looks like a good job! Do they come in black? ;)

Only in silver/grey at the moment. Don't know where to get the bobbins, I am sure that a lot of the bike shops would have em.
I am still looking into the bobbin support options, should have it sorted soon.

Just to add to the bikes that the stand has been tested on; my ZXR400 fits sweet-as. I'm even more happy with the stand now Swannie. I lubed two chains in a day!

Mmmmmmmmmm, lubrication.

Excellent. Currently fabricating MK2 stand using threaded rod to adjust lifter. Also looking into bobbin hooks.

Well I have just sold the last one on trademe.:drinknsin So thanks to all you guys who got a stand, and showed an interest. What I now call the Mark 1.

I am currently tooling up for Mark 2. This stand differs most in the lifter which use threaded rod as the lateral adjusters. Means less welding and no locking knobs required. Also looking to get some bobbin hooks cut as well so the stand can work for more bikes. If it is not too expensive I may look at electroplating them for that bling effect. The next batch will be ready quite soon so I'll keep you posted.

Thanks everyone. :niceone:

really dont want to put you out of business but I have created a stand for those elite with single sided swingarms, BUT and this is a big BUT mine will also happily do standard swinging arms as well!

How much you ask? well each one is custom made to the bike so a small fitting charge of one beer plus material costs means it would cost under 10 dollars!! :headbang:
