So, who was on it? I seem to remember some KB'ers were going to be doing it today....
Came round a corner near alfriston to find a group of L platers with a Passrite instructor following.....so I did the decent thing and hung out behind them for a while...then got bored, so (carefully, indicating, looking, head checking) passed. :scooter:
Hope everyone passes :done:

Was booked for this one, but they put an extra course on two weeks before and I did it then. One in our group failed, but was to have another go at it this time ie 21st.

CBTA = Competency Based Training and Assesment. You can move between license stages in a day (learner to restricted, restricted to full) if you demonstrate appropriate skill.
For example, I did the course last year cos I had been riding for years but never made it official on my license....obviously I had the skill as I passed no problems :drinknsin
It's also a general motorcycle training course with some good content.
Passrite do the course, but I think it may be over? It was like a trial period and now the decision has to be made whether or not to make the scheme become the way that motorcyclists get thier licenses from now on.
Cagers need seomthing similar, methinks! :brick:

Must have got the OK, something very similar is being run by Mainland Driving School down here in Christchurch.

Went into the first sharp corner on Twilight road too fast, braked in the corner and nearly came to grief. Would still have passed if he recoverd from this, but failed because he was too shaken and rode the rest of the ride at 60 odd km/h..... bit of a pain for the rest of us!!!

I thought CBTA courses were fininshed or at least they'd finished the trial period? Are they still running or just the last booked courses going through?

It should be tougher to pass - you want it to mean something, don't you?
Who was it that said "That which we obtain too easily we esteem to lightly", Thomas Paine?
Otherwise it's all a load of buggary bollocks init?

It's a lot harder to pass than the standard test, so it's a step in the right direction. And it's taught by motorcyclists.....
I do agree though Korea - it was still way too easy!

Just completed the second to last course down here , last one was yesterday. LTNZ say it makes it pass trial stage and gets re-instated it wont be for another 2 years min.
Political pressure and lack of LTNZ resources killed it.
Agree it should be more difficult, but what about the tin top tests? monkeys can pass in Evo's and Subuarus and be let loose amongst the rest of us.....
Should sort that out first.

I was on the course.
What a painfull, painfull ride  Average speed over the whole ride was about 30 - 40 kms p/h....all those twisties on a sprotsbike and ARGH! Not to mention my severely sprained left knee! (I'd like to thank my mum, and my dad: the inventor of the sprotsbike and ....oh yeah, panadol!)
Nevermind I got my full licence coming in the mail within the month so it was worth it.
This was the last CBTA course that Passrite are conducting....so they slotted two guys who were doing the learners to restricted course with us. To demonstrate how slow and painfull a ride it was....I was in first gear not excelerating thorugh the twisties on Twilight Rd and I had to keep on braking not to rear end the guy in front of me!
Lunch was really nice - at the Log Cabin.
Never to be minding, glad it's done.

Dude, I was sitting in the class talking to this guy. I say to him "Wow, hope I pass I heard this guy was failed the other day" And he goes "Yeah, it was me" So kudos to him for coming back and having another go!
Although really embarassing for him (with me knowing that it was him) was the tutor using his fail as an example (don't think he knew that he was in the group)..... DOH

Mine came in a week this time... maybe cos the courses are finishing, and was able to get the new bike early.... so that was cool...

I think they knew, but thought nobody else would know. There's been some said here about Passrite being interested only in dollars eg billing the $285 at least 6 weeks BEFORE the course - me, but in this case they arranged for him to do the course again for free!!! They also let him go before the end of day briefing so he wouldn't have to be embarassed.
Good to hear you got the nice lunch!! We missed out as the Log cabin was closed (over new year period), so finished the course at around 1pm. Alan and I got our own lunch at one of my favourite places, then went for a celebratory blat down 22, it was a good day!!
Congrats on getting yr full!!
PS: WHy was your avg speed so slow.... I thought ours was because of the guy losing his nerve... (Passrite were keen for us to keep up our speed on the learners>restricted course...)

I was also on that last course with girlygirl, I'm not really sure why the group was going so slow.
I was stuck on one of passrites horrid GN125s in the front group and we seemed to keep on losing the guys at the back.
We never got to 100kms/hr during the entire day, I was trying but the 125 just couldn't do it ... got to about 90-95 on the motorway.
I feel sorry for girlygirl as she was chosen to go right at the back of the group ... that must've really sucked when just a quick flick of the wrist and you could have left us all in your dust easily :nya:.
Anyways, I thought it was a good day all round.

There were about 15 people, we were in one big group - Tutor in front & Tutor behind. I think that other than the guy directly in front of me (who was as frustrated as I was) some people were just going really slow. I believe that one of them was the chap that we were discussing. Also there were 2 guys doing Learner to Restricted so I figure they weren't supposed to exceed 70kms per hour and may have been true learners? Dunno.
The guy who was in front of me got a bee in his helmet just outside of Maraetai, so the tutor and I stopped and waited for him, then I led back through into Howick, but the speed limit was 80 then 50. Even so we caught the group at Church Rd.

Now that'd be a test of character/bike handling etc under duress!!
