Whats with the new breed off riders of today. Because you are on a old bike they look down on ya to me its not how it looks or how new it is its that you are on the road . so give a wave or nod to all as they might pick ya up one day :2thumbsup

Agree with ya on that mate. All bikers deserve a nod or wave no matter if they are on a GN or an MV Augusta.

Are you referring to your 92 bike as an "old bike" roflmao, quite modern and tidy compared to mine

A small nod/waves is good, yes its all about injoying your ride, i had a bad exsperance at a locel bike meet where i was with a mate of mine who owned a ducati as he was a good friend he parked with us jap riders, he was aproched by Ducati owners club and told to come and park with them as they wernt parked by any jap bikes, thank god my mate thought his bike as a bike and not a ducati:drinknsin

I'm sorry to say there's nothing new there bladez. When I bought my first old dunger (and it meant a lot to me) there were quite a few guys in the club I was in who didn't want my mate and i on club runs. Fortunately the "good" older guys stuck up for us impoverished young ones and made us welcome. Bike riders are bike riders and we ride what we can afford/want as the case may be.

Ive allways had older bikes prior to the purchase of the CBR. I dunno about others, but I'll ride with anyone, even a scooter rider. At the end of the day, a bike is a bike. Not into attitudes and opinions really. Anyone who says otherwise about me can tell a p/t from the end of their nose. Although I do agree with the fact that the attitudes are out there, as I notice it at times when I'm riding on the TT350. I get shunned by people who are friendly when Im riding the CBR. Kinda pathetic really, IMO.

Damn, good on the older riders but shit what club was that?
I have always maintained that if its got 2 wheels then good onyer for having a go. Scooters, magic, mini, whatever, as long as its not a car! If its in shit condition or really dirty then you could maybe expect a bit of PT for your maintenance skills but you gotta live with that. IMHO if a person or group cares more about what you ride than the fact that you do ride, dont ride with them they are clearly a bunch of wankers.
Rant over, have a nice day.

I got a 1982 1100 which I personally think has heaps of street cred. Its an ugly old brute with stacks of wick, handles like shit and doesn't stop. It certainly reminds you that you have to ride it to stay alive and one day arriving at a service station in Tekapo a bunch of (smallish) sportsbike fellas had a huge joke at my expense. The mistake they made was not realising that on a straight road the old girl can fly and that area has a lot of longish straights. Grinning from ear to ear I steamed past them with 240 (about all she could give) on the clock and they never seemed to catch up untill much later with lots of approving waves and thumbs up..

Every clique seems to look down on everybody else.

the sprosters look down at the slow HD'ers.

the HD and English look down on the sprotsbikers who ride sewing machines with no soul that don't require "unschedualed maintance"

The offroaders say the road riders lack skill and finesse..

Even though we're all part of the same family.. we seem to have a lot of infighting

not all ducati riders are like that but some are and it goes to there head (look its a ducati) but to me its only a bike

Now this is an age old arguement, I lived on the Isle of Man for 5years and was a member of a "Bike Club", 2 rules all member were to own any bike over 150cc(so that ride outs didn't take an age), the other you were to have fun on and off the bike. Some who have been to the Island may know the Moddey Dhoo MC.

There was Harleys, Hondas, Ducatis, Yamaha's Kwakers the lot, however I would not say a bike is a bike, no there is no class system, but a MV is nicer than a CG125, scooters are a root to a big big so should be encouraged.

Bikes are not "just bikes", bikes are a dream, each to there own, I love my ducati senna more than I loved my 916 Biposto and that more than my Thunderace and so on right down to my AR125. A Ducati 916 is a piece of history and mechanical genius.

This is not a "snob" thing I love bikes because it gives you a connection with someone you don't know, I could talk for hours about RD's, racing and oil leaks greasy roads, near misses and hits.

I acknowledge all bikers because I have been around and seen all types of bikers and I feel at home with them, the world wide.

Sorry for the rant!:sweatdrop

so Fishslayer what do the CBR1000 ride like as would realy love one and good to see people do wave the good ones that is

Fishy
24th January 2006, 12:39
They are quite nice to ride, easy to ride and very predictable (if you like that) they have a very aggressive riding position compared to all the other 1000cc sports bikes which gives you sore wrists after a while especially 2 up. They aren't the best 2 ride around 2 up as the passenger seat is really high and really hard and the extra weight on your wrists takes its toll pretty quickly. Very smooth bike to ride and very stable at any speed on bumpy surfaces - I have tested all the other 1000cc sports bikes and mine feels a lot more stable than the others on the road.

I do like the blade as an all round bike but I think they lack power and excitement. I will be selling it early next year for something with a bit of a temper and a bit more exciting to ride... maybe K7 GSX-R1000 or 07' ZX10R???

....with lots of approving waves and thumbs up..
My 6 hundy is at the other end of the spectrum and I have had lots of flash late model big sprotbike riders kind of scoff at my rat. I'll cruise the straights then catch up in the corners and carve them up just to have them wave at me down the straights again.:chase:

bladez
24th January 2006, 13:53
there is alot of small bikes out there and they do handle in corners at least ya get a wave on straights so that is one bonus but just go out and have fun and give a smile on the corners

I met a guy on the shore last week that owns three 305 Honda dreams, one of which it the trail bike version with wide bars, high pipes, an lumpy tyres.
We spent quite some time yarning about old bikes.
He mentioned he really liked the Triumph Thruxton, muttered something about $18,000 an then went back to talking about the Hondas.
Old bikes can be a heap more interesting than newer ones at times, they have history and looking down on them is really missing out on something.
Those old 305 dreams were one of,if not THE first bike to have an electric start.People that knock old bikes are just strange,an NOT in an interesting way.

I still remember my first real ride out into the country on my friends FZR250. I went past heaps of bikes, and EVERYONE waved.. It was awesome! Like its own friendly community.

I will always pop a wave or a nod to fellow bikers. But i find only the sport bike guys seem to wave back??? The guys on the Harlys and Crusers seem to stick to there own club...

bladez
24th January 2006, 21:26

s'funny ......

i have noticed that CRUISER riders tend to wave or nod when i'm on the '73 honda or '72 bonne ....... the sportsbike riders usually only acknowledge me when i'm on the fazer [yes, and the cruiser riders don't  ]

LB, this wasn't you by any chance ? Shame on those club members, looks like they've caused an international incident.

Me, I'll ride and park next to anyone , don't care what brand people have or are into , if they ride a bike that's great by me.

Funny you should get snobbed by a Ducati owner(s) , from my experience it's normally been the other way round from Jap bike owners saying my bike is shit or some comment about where the back up vehicle is. I personally don't give a shit either way. So sorry you got snobbed , please accept an apology from this Duc owner.:Punk:

Slightly off topic, buuuuuuut: When I was doing a side trip during the Magpie Madness rally a dude on a Ducati went by the other way and gave me a wave. So what? He did it by taking his left hand off the bars and holding it out sideways level with the bars. It was really easy to see. So since then I've been waving like that and doing it early enough to give the other rider a chance to wave back. I have had every wave returned- new bikes, old bikes and (drum roll please)... HARLEYS! Give it a go.

Fishy
26th January 2006, 06:43
now thats a good way to go Fishslayer what kind would ya be looking at?

Not to sure at the moment yet there are a few ideas floating around in my head.... could get a 150cc 2 stroka, or a genereal commuter GN250 or maybe a VFR400 or an older blade around 92-95 and turn it into a streetfighter/stunter? Just not sure at the moment which is probably a good thing cause I need to go and harvest the money trees first. :scooter:

I BOUGHT A 98 BLADE AND THAT WAS A STEAMING PILE O SHIT IT WASNT AS FAST AS A 96 GSXR750 IN A STRAIGHT LINE AND WASNT EVEN CLOSE UNDER BRAKES OR IN THE CORNERS , ALSO A 2 UP ZX9 C1 MODEL COULD PULL AWAY FROM THE 98 BLADE DOWN THE STRAIGHTS AND HAD FAR BETTER HANDLING . I GUY ON A C1 2 UP FLEW PAST MY 98 BLADE WHICH WAS ONE UP AND I HAD A HEAD START , THAT WAS A SUNDAY AFTER NOON , I BOUGHT THE ZX9 THE NEXT SATURDAY MORNING.
TRY MAKING A WARRANTY CLAIM FROM HONDA COMPARED TO SUZUKI . I WAS HITTING MY HEAD AGAINST THE WALL WITH THE HONDA .
SERIOUSLY IF YOUR GONNA UPGRADE GET A GSXR750T(96) OR LATER MODEL YOU WONT BE DISSAPOINTED.
BTW I BOUGHT MY HONDAS PARTLY BASED ON THEIR REPUTATION OF BUILD QUALITY AND THATS ALL BULLSHIT , MANUFACTURERS ARE ALL QUITE SIMILAR THESE DAYS

750 SRADs are this shit, full stop. I reckon that the new Kwak 636's will blow them off the track though. ZX6/9Rs are also the shizzle, and the 90's through to 2002 ones are, I think, some of the most competent road bikes out.

What the hell was this thread supposed to be about again?
