View Full Version : CANS for VTR1000?

Howdy everyone,
I'm looking at getting some cans for my VTR1000 and wanted some feedback on what to get. I'd really like to get some carbon fibre ones purely on the look (yellow vtr) although I've heard the titanium ones are better / lighter?
My bike has been dyno jetted and currently runs the standard cans which have been debaffled.
Any feedback much appreciated.

Two Brothers have always sounded good on VTR's.
Check out www.parts411.com. They've got some pretty good deals on all brands.

Hey Devil how was your head on Saturday? Shady? And the coro loop? CBTA course was great, more like an enjoyable ride than a course.

I was a bit borderline when I woke up! Headed out anyway and had a fun day. Need new tyres though!
Now I guess you've just got to wait for your exemption certificate to turn up. mine took nearly two weeks!

I can't vouch for it personally, but I have been told (back when I had a VTR) not to get CF cans, as they don't stand up to the vibes from the V2's zorst pulses too well. Metal cans are better for longevity.
Personally, I hate 2-bros cans (too tinny, dubious quality) - I'd go for anything else (Neptune, Staintune, Micron, Scorpion, Remus), but it's up to you to buy what looks nicest and suits your budget. Dunno who sells what in D'Auckland, but Kerry at Motohaus can sell you some nice cans at a good price (I think he sells Scorpions).
Another alternative is to get Coby in Hamilton to recore the standard cans with standard perforated baffle tube, so they are straight-though. I've heard good things about this being done, although you'll still have the standard look and most of the weight (not necessarily a bad thing, as the OEM cans are very strong - sideswiped a car once and not a mark on the can.)

neighbour has remus pipes on his, and its fucking loud. Said he got a bit of a performance gain, but he's got the dynajet kit and K&N filters aswell, which would have helped.
Too put it bluntly, i might be buying his bike later in the year :devil2:

Blue Wing fitted Microns to a run of VTR's. If it's good enough for them etc.
PM me for a price.

I just heard from a shop that the remus zorsts are 2kg heavier each than the standard ones.....no thank you!

..really nice job too.
Doesn't this answer your question about who to go see about new cans!?

I've got CF Arrows. They sound great, but they're lowly falling apart (less than 40k before fracturing). I'd go with stainless or titanium.

I've got scorpians, sound great and real sturdy as mine tends to backfire alot :).
But Neptune may be able to make a highrise set that sound loud. Remember the VTR basey rumble is your friend.
With Uncle B on a gixxer now it's up to me to make all the noise. But the VTR sounded better than his SV anyway. and by better, I mean louder.

talk to Nak1d about the cans he got recently from Custom Chambers, they looked good and sound great too, My VTR came with the dirty ole two brothers on them, can't really complain though they sound awesome and seem to have given a pretty decent hp increase, enough to keep up with a TLR

Put an alloy [cool to touch when rest of bike hot] VIPER can on, sounds good & cheaper than some of others.

The best bit of advice ui can give you, is sell the VTR and buy a TLS, but if that wont work, certain carbons destroy themselves on twins, Kerker, Two Bro's and most that use the carbon selve to munt to the end cap flanges, pipes like micron, the baffle attaches to the end cap flanges leaving the selve a non structual part of the pipe with the selve being supported with rubber O rings, Yoshi's and high end carbon cans are pretty well bulit though.
Titainium is good for sure, alloy too can be weakened badly by a twin.
I'd recommend Mircon, good price, lastabilty, nice sound. Yoshi RS3's are pretty cheap these days too.

yeh i agree with LB,hav herd that carbon fibre cans vibrate themselves loose, fittings, end cap flanges, not az sturdy az stainless steel pipes,i would say, scorpions,or 2brothers,BIG BANG 4 YOUR BUCKS?
