Rotorua & Taupo bikers to meet BP Koutu ready to leave at 9.00am
Meet & pickup Tauranga riders at "Tapapa "SH5 (turnoff to Matamata/Okoroire)
Proceed to Putaruru via Whites Rd. Onto the Arapuni Rd and follow this all the way to Kihikihi. Turn left into SH3 and motor on down to Te Kawa and turn right. (S/S on cnr) Then its follow your nose out to Kawhia for lunch.
When everybody has had their fill talked shit enough & is sufficiently recovered we will be on our way to Waitomo via Harbour Rd, through Waiharakeke, Kinohaku turning left at Te Anga Rd and onto a break at Waitomo.(Yes i have amap:yes: )
At this point we can either proceed south to TeKuiti then go back to Rotovegas via Bennydale & Mangakino or we can shoot back up SH3 to Kihikihi and return the way we came.:stupid:
I am open to suggestions, but please keep it simple; we do not want to get lost on “gun” back roads:slap:
I also think it is a good idea to have a several stops on the way to replace fluids and get rid of some if necessary.:drinknsin :sweatdrop
Not forgetting the Hamilton guys, you may like to meet us at Putaruru or Te Kawa.
We will need to have a designated “tail end Charlie” that is familiar with the route/area.
All bikes/bikers welcome.
:Oi: If you intend coming please register so we have an idea on numbers.

Yes! most rides seem to be on Sunday I guess because of sports/work etc commitments, but several people had requested a Saturday ride. thus the timing for this one.
Be interesting to run a poll on the better day to run a ride for most people.

should be ok, they are doing a bit at a time and the rest is smooth flat gravel. Wouldnt miss the rest of the ride for this bit. it's only 5 km ish long but sveral places after that there is gravel on the road. All well sign posted though.

Yep, stopped there many a time.. Except last Monday. in a hurry.
Anyone know who the rider was that didnt make the corner there Monday afternoon. Went off in an Ambo. He was gone but there was a group of riders dealing with, presumably the bike, on the corner about 2-3 k's on the road south.

Yep, it was good fun. Kornholio met me this morning in Hamilton and we cruised down Maungatautari Rd to Bryces Cafe where we waited with Quasi and Warr for the Vegas/Taupo crew to turn up. The view on the tennis court was very pleasant though, making the wait less painful.

Eventually the rest of them turned up and we found that Tony had embarassed himself. Apparently he wanted to take a pic so shot off ahead of the others and found a good spot. He pulled over and the front end went sideways on gravel at about 5kph. Bike landed on his foot so he had a fair limp the entire day and getting slower and slower on the road because of it.

Left there and blazed a trail to Kihikihi where we picked up 3 others, including Bruce with his nice new Busa. From there we shot across to Kawhia. I was behind Ivan for a while and wondered why he stuck his left leg out a couple of times. Going around a sharp left he got her right over scrapping the fairings and stuck his leg out again!! Turns out his leg was cramping so he pulled over and sorted it before continuing.

Lunch was very nice with the kitchen at the cafe being kept very busy. Quasi jumped back on the green beast and took off. I think he had to get home for something. The rest of us left a bit later with Warr, Kornholio and the couple of the ZX9 (sorry didn't get their names) carrying straight on before we found out that 2much's girlfriend was going around the loop to Waitomo so everyone followed.

I messaged Korn and let him know but he was back at SH31 before he got it, so he bailed after Warr limped up behind him. Warr was heading down to Taupo for the night so he shot down to Waitomo to hook back up with us.

The ride down from Kawhia to Te Anga to Waitomo was interesting. I still didn't have any rear brakes (new bleed valve is in the rear brakes but I haven't filled it with fluid and bled it yet cos I want to make sure the mongrel is gonna stay in there so I don't end up with more powercoating missing off my rear wheel) and there has been LOTS of resurfacing and fixing potholes so there was loose stuff everywhere. Probably the only one really enjoying it was old Doc on the XT660. Cos Tony on the V Strom had dropped it on his foot he couldn't use the rear brake or weight the pegs, making gravel nasty.

Everyone pulled into a rest area, following John. However, he didn't realise they were less than 15k from Waitomo and probably should have carried on. But everyone was sore and damn hot.

We bailed from the rest area and went to the Waitomo pub where we had a nice cold beer and talked shit for a while. That was more like it. But it looks like 2much is sleeping on the couch cos his girlfriend (on a GSX250) was going to be at least an hour late for work.

That's where we parted company, with 2 pairs heading off seperately and Tony shooting off cos he was sore. A while later the rest of us left, with me being the sole survivor from further north. All the others were from Vegas and Tauranga.

Given a couple of months those roads are going to be mint out that way so look forward for another blast out there.

Good to see you had a good time and rode at your own pace...Keep it up and riding will be second nature in no time :)

And I must say the only time I have wanted my bike to be a 1000 was yesterday following 2much at 150k and powering up the Gixxer and popping the front wheel up....well it was a lot of forced attempts lol but Id need a bump or something to start me off....was interesting watching tho :D

Thanks Mental for the ride report, good stuff and makes it easy for me.:yeah:
Very embarrassed  but know bones broke.Just crushed both sides of ankle bone and done some damage to stabilising ligaments on both sides of ankle. 2-3 days with foot up and then physio.
Just glad bugger all damage to bike.:shit:
Definitely will be revisiting those roads in 4-5 weeks time as I think they will be just ace once all the loose shite has gone.:woohoo:
15 bikes in all, so good effort & pleasure to see guys bring their partners.
Thank you Bruce & mate from Aucks for making the effort and to Rick for doing the extra mileage....big day for you guys. ( Bruce that bike is a honey)
Well better get my foot back up or I will be in trouble:doctor:

Hey team,
Firstly, thanks for a great day!:)
Sorry about the mess up with which way we were going however I was told where to go .. ( not the first time ;) ) so off I went so you could all catch up.:scooter: .
Hopefully I will be a little more confident in the not so distant future and be able to keep time with the group soon.:ride:

Nice to see ya along there and by the look of yer bike and the knee of your riding trousers youve been on a steep learning curve fairly recently (it happens)... You were doing just fine on a difficult ride and drew many respectful comments from all for getting out there and doing it at your pace..
Now as for that bloody Hooligan 2much I figured he only needs a front wheel on that thing for parking as it doesn't get much use any other time (ok just kidding).. What a machine that Gixxer is and also ridden nicely well within its limits..
Ride with you both any day (soon maybe eh)..
Cheers Bruce

Hi Guys I really enjoyed that ride, mostly because of the maturity about the ride, no stupid behaviour as is with most newbies present on the Auckland rides. I had a great time, I was content puttering along at my own pace :ride: which changed a few times but for me it was a no pressure and a responsible group of riders to ride with, I liked it alot.
To bad about the little incident Mr Stromer, but Im glad it wasnt to serious for you mate.

Its sad that a biker was killed in the same area we were riding in yesterday a head on with a truck apparently, very sad hope itsnt anyone I know.

I look forward to riding with you all again sometime soon, we got some great roads around the Waikato we should use them more.

Sounds like you all had a good ride. I was going to come along as I was down Arapuni way this weekend, ended up taking the car though, which wouldn't have been so good for a bike ride :) Actually saw you guys in Kihikihi on my way into the big smoke (Te Awamutu), looked like a good size group.

Some good roads down that way that I haven't explored on 2 wheels, I'll be riding the bike down there soon methinks.

Yup that sums up my views as well. My mate Grant (on the Blk ZZR11) who usually rides with the ulysses, was well impressed with the ride and really enjoyed his day out. As you probably noticed he is no slouch on that thing either, has a good head on him and is a pleasure to travel with..Think we will be seeing more of him in future..
Have to agree with Quasi there about the Waikato roads and believe it or not it aint that far to go for us Dorklanders..

Mate!
What a ride - still buzzin' over it!

Better than the Coro Loop, me reckons.. More twisties, hardly any traffic, no rozzers and great scenery.

It was cool leavin' Rotovegas with four others, then picking up more & more peeps as we went, until there was loads of us; even better, we all got home!

New front Diablo Strada was great; stable the whole way 'round.. A few slips on shingle & uber soft tar, but everyone got those.

Was stoked on rider's behaviour; no-one did anything 'endangering' (other than to themselves/their tyres)...would def ride with you lot again.

Four of us came back via some great twisties, eventually coming out at Wharepapa South again; a few more fun 'twists of the wrist' and we were back at Arapuni Dam...know the one, Tony?

Great meeting new people, and top marks Olivia for getting back out there!

Got home at 7pm, and was thankful not to have to work the next day!

Only downer is that the bike "broke down" Sunday afternoon...will post a thread asking for help!

Bring on the next one!!!

Just realized I still hadn't put a couple of pics I took up.:(
1st one is just after my little off, the 2nd is while we were all having a break at Kihikihi when some young guys went past in a van & 1 of them leaned out the window and yelled "why don't you guys do something cool!"
