A sad story to tell. . .
Bren_ch and i had gone for a evening ride to akaroa on sunday. all was going good and a beautiful ride, one of those rides when everything comes together and it feels gret, now for the sad part:cry: .
as were riding back bren was in front, was about 40km away from chch. entered a 65km/h corner coming out of the corner ther was another one about 100 meters up the road. as i was coming out of the corner started accelarting up to 110km/h noticed a car a little bit in front of me, didnt think much of it, until it decided to slam its brakes on in the middle of the road with no indication or anything. seeing how close the next corner was and not wanting to take the risk of having a head-on with another car, i dropped the bike    and tumbled about quite a few meters and the bike travelled about double that along the road. good news is i walked away with a graze on my hip and a bruised hand, no brocken bones, but the bike is a litte worse, wont be getting it back for atleast two months

That sucks, (it's not the sexy yellow one I've seen about is it? That's a fine looking bike).

Least you were wearing the right gear... dropping the bike @ 110 while wearing jeans isn't an option and you'd be forced to try and go around, into who knows what.

Appreciate the comment about the 2 sec rule, and it's a hard one to argue with the law if you hit someone from behind. Still, there can be extenuating circumstances and most cops try to listen to your story if you consider you have grounds. Interesting to get comment from our Boys in Blue on this? Very concerned that the idiots were stoned! Could be the needed extenuating circumstances?

yeah, i know wthe two second rule, was hard when coming out of a corner though.i talked to the police officer at central station and told me sympthised with me and understood where i was coming from, but , said if i had filed it, then it would be hard to prove i was in the right, if i had hit them i would have been in the wrong and cause i didnt hit them i would be in the wrong:wacko: . he also said it would be hard to prove they stoned, when its my word against the driver and his two witnesses

Probably has the same problem I did when I binned in that all the parts have to come from Japan. Bloody frustrating.

not too sure, i think it's about 10km from tai tapu. theres two right hand 65km corners in a row and a little rest area to the right heading back towards chch

yeah, didnt break a bone, got up and got on the bike and rode back to chch. nah didnt cartwheel. i was going 110km/h, saw the car and then just dropped it, the bike slid down the road on one side and i rolled about 13 times along the tarseal.bike is mostly surface damage, didnt damage the tank, frame, swingarm, forks, engine, chassis, none of it, but its gonna take ages apparntly for the assesor and ordering the faring from japan and that sort of stuff, well thats what the said atleast

Is it worth claiming on? You can tidy a fairing up on the cheap easy enough, and wait till you really fuck it before you claim, unless you just like having your bike mint n stuff, it's just i've seen heaps of peeps drop there bike and wait months to get it pristine again then drop it again, when they could've been riding all that time (maybe, could've binned it again in those months) cause the bike wasn't that bad in the first place, i dont mind if it still does the bizzo ya know, i'd wait till i bent the thing round a lamp post before i'd claim and then claim for all th either damage, not that i'm ever going to crash ever again, touch wood.

yeah, i would like to leave it, but, it broke the indiators and wouldn't pass a warrant with the side faring that hit the road, i only have to pay $700 excess and one of the panels is $1500 and its a cornoa edition, so might aswell get everything can done for it

or get it back and do a few trackdays (wouldnt matter if you dropped it there)

Okay, but you could always buy an indicator for whatever zooki charge, $110 rough guess, and take the fairing off when WOF time comes, you dont need fairings to get a WOF. Have a check round wreckers first for any corona fairings, it might work out cheaper than the excess, not sure if you have any sort of no claims bonus, which is all i thinking about, and plus if you make claims it can bump your premium up per year. You might want to enquire to your insurance company if it will have any effect on these, if not then go for it.

See?! All the proof you need that you should never look at your speedo! The way I read it, you looked down to check your speed, looked up again and in the meantime the stoned driver had hit the anchors. Speed limits are dangerous!

Seriously though, sounds like it could have gone a whole lot worse. Glad to hear your OK and the bike is fixable.

Just last weekend I had a similar experience... Pyes Pa Rd (we were going pretty quick) row of 5-6 cars, Blackbird2 shot past and I followed (on a bend) the old lady at the front panic'd at the site of the Blackbird and jammed on the breaks just as I was pulling in to let an on-comming car through.
Grabbed the front, stood it up and up come the rear... front let go, so I had another crack...It slowed enough to turn out , missed by inches.
The guys behind said the following cars slammed the breaks and caused a whole lotta havoc.

At the time I thought..."silly old biddy" but if we were riding at legal speeds it never would have happened:brick:

Sorry old lady in the white car.

25th January 2006, 20:33
I've said it before and I'll probably have to say it again..the cow in the middle of the blind bend is theoretically perfectly safe if everyone keeps to the road code: On a two lane road there is another speed limit. The speed you can stop in the distance of clear road ahead. 1/2 the distance on an unlaned road. If you hit the cow/pothole/pothead/rental car/asian it is YOUR fault for speeding/following too close.

Sorry to hear that Jwlkr. Not much I can say other than you walked away and that's a winner at the top of the podium. The Akaroa highway has had a lot of accidents over the years. It has some deceptive bends espeally on the return trip. There's a couple near the lake where there is no land backdrop and becasue of this you can be into the corner before you know it.
