The R1's (called widow-makers by some) have a bit of a bad rep - they tend to kill/severely hurt their riders.

please don't tell me that's a serious answer..

no idea why they're selling. They're just as good a thou as the next one. Yeah, on paper blah fuckin blah..
ride all the bikes, buy the one that puts the biggest grin on your face and feels the best for you. Cos you have to ride it, not anyone else

I HEARD THE R1S RIDE IS A LITTLE SOFT FOR BIGGER RIDERS , BUT I THINK TO MANY PEOPLE SET THEIR BIKE UP TOO HARD FOR THE ROAD ANYWAY, THEY CONFUSE HARD SUSPENSION WITH GOOD HANDLING WHICH MAY BE GOOD ON THE TRACK BUT WHEN THE BIKE NEEDS TO REACT TO POT HOLES AND CATS EYES ON THE ROAD THE SOFTER SUSPENSION CAN GIVE CONTACT FOR LONGER WHICH MEANS MORE GRIP ,IN MY OPINION SOFETR SUSPENSION IS BETTER IN THE WET AS WELL , TAKE ONE OUT I BET YOULL LIKE IT , AS FOR THE NEW BLADE I DONT CARE MUCH FOR HONDAS.

I got to ride one through some twisties last weekend for the first time - holymotherofpearl bags of grunt! I never got past 3rd gear...
Infinitely less flickable then the 600rr but when you conciously 'put' them in the corner, well... look at the picture...

Nuffin wrong with them aye, I love mine, reckon if you can REALLY notice the fractional difference between them on the road then you out to be getting paid to do it.

NO it was not - all the 1000's are great bikes from the articles I've read.

A bike mag - I dunno which sorry (think it's Superbike)- but it's on the shelves right now - has done a comparison with all the older 1000's that won best bike of the time - Starting from around 2000 I believe.

Judging from your comments you're not addicted to one brand so test ride them all and see which one puts the biggest grin on your face, as that's the only real-world test there is.

no this is not a bias answer

mate there is nothing wrong with them I would own one but it wasnt $10,000 better than what i have now, neither is the thou, zx10 ,blade etc...

its a fine bike if you get it for the right price...

and its pure sex on wheels if you ask me...

a zx10 might be the shizz, but it looks like a dogs arse..

she won't want you to get one after she sits on the rock hard seat. None of the latest thou's are built for passenger comfort thats for sure.

bladez
24th January 2006, 15:24
she likes the high up seat so she can look over the rider and holds the tank so i get no force on me but the seat well dont no about that:argh:

James Deuce
24th January 2006, 15:24
2004 R1's pillion seat is really nice, and the pillion pegs aren't as high as the CBR1000RR's. The CBR1000RR's is a plank. The GSXR1000K5/6 is nice too.

But an STX1300 or FJR1300 is better if pillion riding is one of you main criteria.

I love mine can't keep of it, don't realy feel I need to trade it on a zx10 or 05/06 gixxer no doubt they are both awesome machines.my advise is to take them all for a ride
Pick the one that gives you the biggest buzz- then consider how long that buzz will last on long trips, tours etc, as I said earlier I can't keep of mine.

Cheers Darrell.

Wouldnt mind an SE model in the yellow/black paint job - saw a couple in Perth and they looked seeeexy! For the road - they're all of a muchness - pays yer money and take yer choice. The bikes are better than most riders around, anyway........

I have heard the R1's are the hardest og the big four on your wrists and back.
So be sure to testride the bikes and don't forget to consider the comfort factor too. The newest 2006 R1 Raven is one sweet looking bird!

That is. They gave us a warning at the CBTA course in christchurch about the problems with newbies on literbikes.

As soon as people got their full license slip they went to testdrive R1 at one particular store, would rev it, drop the clutch and be doing 80 by the time they hit the car showroom on the other side of manchester street.

Probably urban legend but by all those idiot videos I see I wouldn't be surprised either ...

I've ridden 05 R1's and blades, but I prefer the K4's, never tried a K5/6. However I like the 10 a lot more, especially after having the suspension modified :D
