If you are I'd recommend catching a lift with someone. It's nuts out there. The windows in our building sound like they're going to blow out.

I wouldn't even dream about takling the harbour bridge!

I'll be riding home in about 30 minutes. CBD to glenfield. Should be entertaining.

This is a picnic mate. I was riding from wellington to new plymouth on the 2nd or 3rd of January when the shit weather was happening. Gusting to 140km/h while I was heading around Foxton.

At one point I seriously had the bike on a 45 degree lean while travelling straight ahead, for at least 100m!

I was being blown from the right hand lane into the gravel on the right heading south through taranaki around mokau once, was rather scary! Lucky no one else was stupid enough to be on the road!

I have that joyful experience in 10 minutes.

I've gone round the Esmond Road on-ramp leaning right before (for those who don't know, the on ramp is a nice flat long left hander)

I've ridden in stuff like this, but if you don't have to, it's best not to risk. Especially today, since we haven't had a good blast for ages, so all the weak tree branches are being blown everywhere. I might go take a pic of outside my work window. The road is green with tree stuff!!

Anyone got an update?

Yeah it happed just after 1pm. 4 vehicle pile up between Te Atatu and Lincon Rd offramp. Motorway was closed between the 2 offramps. Not sure of recent update....

Supposedly a truck had hit the median barrier. As reported by one of our guys, it was @ a 90degree angle to the median and another little truck involved was a bit squished............ then there was another 6 car nose to tail further down toward Patiki heading West as well. Sounds like a suckful ride home MDU...... shame it's not past Lincon road, at least you could of shot down Waitakere Rd....

Aww come on a bit of wind is nice - keeps you on your toes...... as long as you don't try to break any speed records.

Looking forward to the 20ks home tonight  a bit of lane surfing is always cool

Hmmm wonder what kind of weird weight shifting contortions will be required to keep from getting blown around......:apumpin:

The harbour bridge should be ok as long as you keep your speeds down and there aren't too many cars about so you have a bit of room to drift, so it may pay to wait a bit longer at work till the traffic dies down a bit.

Try and do that with a 20ton truck!

I got pushed bigtime heading north this morning, was silly of me to be in lane 3 with the median barrier flying past my door. Got pushed over to the left and almost into the bridge. Funny how you can be steering to the right and you end up going left............:eek5:

Are there any special moves/advice you truckies do/have for such weather??

The strong winds in Auckland blew a truck onto its side on the Southern Motorway near Ramarama. No one was injured in the accident.

Goodness me. The trip home may be interesting. Not to worry , Herr Uberfarter sneers Teutonically at NZ winds - "Mein Gott , you call zese winds? We HerrenVolk sneer at zese puny breezes. In Der Reich we haff der real vinds vot blow for ein zousand years. Yeh har"

Got a chance to use the ever stylish all-in-one rain suit today, bought it back in the winter and haven't used it yet. Bought it a size bigger then I need to accommodate all the winter gear under it. However it seems a bit too big really, its fine around town but over 50K and it fills up with the wind and I look like a blimp, has a certain sail like quality as well...prehaps not a great buy.

Good luck to all on the journey home, it's just like being back in Shetland.

Jesus. I just did a tiki tour through Mt Eden, St Lukes etc on the way home and got blown around the road, back end kept sliding around on every corner and Dominion RD with its half-arsed macadam was like riding on a skating rink. I think I'll go out again!!  Also there's a lot of loose branches being blown around. Had to dodge a few coming past Western Springs.

Seriously people, take it very easy. The cagers are half blind and all of them had their noses against the windshield. No peripheral vision at all.

I know how ya feel, great isn't it. Nothing like having ya heart try an leap outa ya chest, albeit a big gust or just some asshole who decides to cut ya off. So tempted to just :bash: sometimes.

Was a tad wet riding home, gotta watch those 90kph spin-ups tho, an the odd angle branch, not to mention those farkin leaves everywhere, the umpteen thousand blind bastards in cages and humungas-as puddles. :eek5:

are we :weird: or what.

I know I am . . . just a little . . . . tiny wee bit, beats sitting in traffic tho :nya:

Aww harden up ya pussies... 'twas great!
Did the usual 0 lean cornering and other high wind shenanigans, not to mention a munger 1st gear throttle on rolling burnout drift :2guns: alot of wide open mouths at that one.
Perfect end to a particularly shitty day at work.

Was heading back to New Plymouth down the southern motorway about 1:40 when this furniture sized truck heading north put on a brlliant display of driving on 2 wheels for about 100 metres before going right over & hitting a matchstick light pole level with me.

Meh, I was quite looking forward to a challenge.

The scariest thing I saw was a huge lump of wood sitting between two lanes on the motorway (closely followed by a smashed hubcap :>). Glad I saw that one!
