Can anyone speak Gaelic?

I have a close friend getting married on Waitangi weekend, I am 1 of her bridesmaids and she has asked me to to speak at the wedding. I thought I would surprise her and have a Gaelic blessing to read, her and I both have Scottish ancestry that we are proud of.

I found a poem on the fab ole interweb thingee but I in no way fluent in Gaelic. Is there anyone that can help? Cheers CSL

It's easy CSL. Get a hairball, mix it with some phlegm, wedge it in the back of your throat and get really, really drunk on some sort of grain spirirts. You'll do a passable imitation of a Native Gaelic speaker that way, even speaking in English. Or French. Probably Norwegian would work too.

Your talking scots gaelic here (not to be confused irish gaelic, or Ulster gaelic), won't matter how your pronoucation is 'cus no one will be able to correct you. But try to go to some of the Irish language sites for pronouncments of "bh" and "dh" sounds etc. The basic sounds are similiar and will give you enough autenthicity to pass with flying colours.

Do a google on Irish translators, irish dictonary etc.

I had no problem making it sound all "hoots mon"! and my Irish is crappy!

Just to confuse you more, there are 6 Celt languages including Breton from Brittany in France. The others are Irish, Scots Gaelic, Manx Welsh, and Cornish. Take your pick, have a good gargle, and go for it. :yes:

I worked with a Welsh lady, couple of years older than me, she was among the most beautiful of women I had even laid eyes on, but I could not understand a word she said, took me about 3 months, to mingle the Wenglish enough to be able to converse with her, after that, it was all good. Are all Welsh women complete super-babes?

Weeeeeeeeel - thanks to my wee mate Jazbug and a few several phone calls, I managed to say the blessing in Gaelic during my speech at the wedding last weekend. Of course the fact that no-one else in the room spoke Gaelic possibly helped!!
