I am heading to the Classic Bike Racing at Pukekohe in Feb and I was wondering if anyone could reccomend a good motel/hotel/b&b in Wellington that has safe parking for the bikes.
The neared the ferry terminal the better

A former flatmate told me that secure parking is not at all common in Wellington now...
I used the Abel Tasman Hotel in Willis Street for this, there is secure basement parking. The basement entrance is from the side street (?).
They charge for a car park but they have twice let me park the bike in there for free. There is one little park that won't fit any car I can think of so I used that each time.
The bar is OK but there are a number of interesting restaurants within an easy walk starting right across the road. You are pretty much a stone's throw from the middle of town.
You can follow your nose straight down to the ferry... getting to the pub from the ferry is only slightly more complicated but working it all out on a map first will make it easy.
Enjoy the trip

forget about wellington
spring creek camping ground about 10 miles south of picton has cabins at very realistic prices and there is a pub straight across the road

Thanks for this, but its a bit steep at $135 a room, anyone know of anything cheaper.

Yeah, can't realy forget about Wellington. My mate wants to take a new K1200R beemer for a ride, so we need to get across the ditch.

Two things: Each time I have stayed there it has cost just under $100 (last visits were mid/late October).
In downtown Wellington the real estate isn't cheap.
Check out the Wotif website (do a Google "New Zealand" search) and you can check out lots of hotels in Wellington and the prices. There probably aren't a lot under $135, and even less of them where you would want to stay :-)
