Enough - been busting my chops for a few days straight now - I'm going to down tools for a minute go and check out the new motomail showrooms.
Half way down college hill ponsonby - opened today.
I'll take the camera.

Ooh! Ooh!
Nup. <_<
Unless they've improved their range, don't see any particular reason to check them out.
I'm more interested in seeing what sort of stuff Motohaus is going to stock now that Motomail have moved and aren't moaning about the competition.

I understood that Motomail's original store will stay put and the College Hill store is an addition. I may be wrong.

I heard that the old store will stay open only for a while (till a new tenant is found or summat). I don't see how they can afford two lots of staff and rent, unless they at least double their turnover.
Dunno.
They're a good store, but they've slipped a bit in some ways in the last few years. Like they used to have heaps of accessories which they no longer do, and although they have a wider range of some stuff than most m/cycle shops, their pricing isn't any sharper.
I used to be quite happy to go there for almost everything I needed (clothes, helmet, boots, gloves, oil, battery, chain and sprockets, etc.) but I've found very little reason to buy anything there for quite a while. Shame...

Oh gee have they moved...?
Well thanks Motomail for informing all your clients on your mailout list... NOT.
I havent received a thing in the mail to say where the new store even is... or if there is a opening sale... and what is happening...
Now that is a great way to treat your customers...NOT.

Hey, they may be the most expensive in town, but boy are they slow.
and, for me, their service is not something to be proud of either.
I actually miss the items that they used to stock, such as Arais etc. It looks like now it is just a collection of cheap items labeled at premium prices.

For those who don't buy/read the motorcycle trader
Motomail moved to collage hill and opened today and the store in Kingsland is staying open as an outlet store with eveything permenantly on sale.
thats just what it said on their ad in the motorcycle trader.

I found MotoMail far friendlier than Cycletreads, but I only popped in once quite close to closing so I'll give them another chance. Especially when I need new rubber.

isn't the new one like a couple of miles away from the other? now if they had one on the north shore or by me in mt wellington it would be alot more profitable

So how does that work? You visit their main store, choose an item then drive to the outlet store and buy it cheaper?
Their marketing is a bit confusing. I suspect with wider competition and being in a isolated retail area, they have been finding it a bit difficult in Kingsland. I would also suggest that perhaps they want to give the new shop a go before closing down Kingsland. That shop in college hill has had many retail tenants over the years.
Retail is tuff in NZ.

i don't know how they are going to work it, just saying what the ad in the trader was saying. Hopefully someone will clarify the details later on.

Dont most of the bike shops buy from F & D, so i cant see that one would ever have much sharper deals than the rest, they all buy from the same place....
deathstar
25th January 2006, 15:44
true because everyone has to have a mark up and forbes don't change theirs so the only person who could reduce their mark up would be the store itself so shall have to see

F+D, Eurobike, Whites, Northerns, Darbis, Nationwide to name a few. We certainly don't buy from the same place, they all have different lines.
Then you have individual stores pricing policies.
It's all called competition.
Obviously I haven't used Motomail since I came to AMPS. But I noticed a real fall off in service and range when Phil Scott sold. Don't really know why.

Well Crashe - shame i've posted three notices about it in here isn't it - not.
There will be a card in the mail this week to all those not online. I've posted those here as well. They only opened today and the signs etc haven't arrived - including the ones I did for the foyer.
There have been big ads running in KR & trader for the last 3 months and on motomail.co.nz.
Everyone has good specials from time to time and different stock - I split my custom between the businesses and people I support and the ones that support me.
That's motomail, motohause and AMPS. I get on famous with and support all of them.
Here is this months KR/Trader ad proof. It answers most of the qustions.

Jokes aside, I wish them well. I visited the shop on the way home and it looks okay but they've got a bit of work to do yet. They might had read my previous post as upon arrival I was greeted with an apology for the lack of signage. No worries guys.
Good luck guys.

Big Dave - Sorry, But I haven't been around on KB much lately and I honestly didn't see any of your threads about it. If I had seen them then I would have read them.
I also don't buy KR & trader or check out Motomail website at all either.
So thats why I didn't know about the new store opening up today.

Motomail may have their failings, as every store does but it is probably because of Motomail that we are spoiled with such a choice of good retailers these days. Think back several years and you'll have to admit that Motomail's competiion have really had to step up to the mark.

so without motomail bravely blazing the trail for the common good we'd have less decent acccesory retailers in NZ?
bollocks.
it's not the retailers that make the industry, it's the customers.
a few retailers seem to forget that....

That's not necessarily because of Motomail - to remain competitive, in business, and make a decent profit, they've all had to improve their business, regardless of whether Motomail's there or not.

Me neither, but I noticed it too. There are a few things I can point to that have changed (most for the worst), but all of them point to the change in owners.
I must say that their service to me has been good and helpful though.

I started using Motomail when they were above and next to Mt Eden Motorcycles, they have always stocked all the little do dads and little things the other bike shops didn't.Like fuel hose, they used to have every size in grey or black, the correct stuff for bikes, not the thick reinforced hose for cars, seems they don't have it anymore now.Always a far bigger range of helmets and clothing than other stores, every thing they have on display and able to be picked up and looked at with out asking a salesman to please take it out of the glass case, and then being watched like a criminal as you checked it out.
And the biggest plus for a 6 day a week worker - open 7 days!

I used to go there for all sorts of things and i also had a friend who worked there but he's told me they plan to leave the accesories and concentrate on the "big ticket items" which i think is sad, sounds like they want to turn it into some upmarket bike clothing store rather than a store for bikers.

Me neither, but I noticed it too.
I naturally disagree about the service. The integrity of the service and people is undiminished - and Phil did set a very high bar. Its the type of stock has changed - as an expression of Chis Hylands tates.
They no longer have an extensive inventory of brake pads for a 1985 CB250 in stock - but they do have some gorgeous davida helmets.

Exactly..... Some will remember when there were shops like Whites in New Market.... Western Webb in Otahuhu.... Papatoetoe Honda...Summers Kawasaki...Takanini Honda... P@R Motors.. Len Perry's..Manurewa Motorcycles.. etc etc there were a lot of shops, most gone now or turned into sanitised aquariums...Motomail appeared when there was almost no other retailer like them and they still had that Ma and Pa kind of feeling..sure a little more expensive in some area's but there 7 days a week with great staff and advice if asked for.

You would think they would have a set for a GSXR1000 and 2 bottles of fork oil the same :violin:.i don't know what the deal was on having no stock.
Unfortunately i gave up after getting !@#$ed around there the third time and don't like to bag any shop but considering i am pretty easy to deal with,i was not impressed ...I will be shopping at Motohaus after getting a set of tyres there as a first time customer just before Christmas..very friendly, good advice.
