Michelin Pilot Powers
Okay I am a michelin tyre man personally.
I have finally killed my second rear tire on it, after 7500kms, i got simlar milage out of the last rear. So together all up my front as done over 14,500kms. Which is damn good for a high performance sports tire.
Due to the design of a hard center and soft sides, it suits well to my communting/touring/weekend fun riding style, were Most other tires are either two soft, or not hard. This blends the two together.
The first people notice when seeing these tires are the 'sharp' more triangle shape of the tires once fitted to the more standard round shape. This greatly improves cornering ability.
Yes they are expensive. But when compared to the brigestone 014's which i had on and only got 5000kms out of a rear. before it had no tread remaining.
These tires stick well when cold/hot, wet/dry, i never had a single slide out of them even when the tires started lacking tread. I did notice that they did feel a bit strange in the sorta mid to warm period, nothing bad, just strange. I have riden in 80km/h windows, water an inch on the roads. No problems anywhere. I have riden on them on the track were the temp for the day was 28 degree's god only knows what the track temp was.
Puting these tires on my father in laws old bmw k1200rs made a huge different, You didn't have to mussel it so much around the corners. in the handling compared to the dunlop 208's it had previously.
I would recommend these tires to anyone. If you have not tried them do.

Great plug for the Pilot Powers Cajun! I am running a 190 P/Power on the rear of my Blade and in the last 3000kms it has been a fantastic tyre in the dry & wet!! :yeah:
Will be sticking with Michelins for some time to come, on this bike anyway. :ride:

Thats good to read. I do similar riding and I was looking at either the Power, or Pirelli Diablo...
**R1**
26th January 2006, 08:50
hell yeah i cant rate the PP's enough, I get 6,000k out of a rear on the R1, the last Pirelli Diablo i had lasted 2,000!!
they are plenty sticky enough in the wet or the dry, and are fantastic on the track as long as you let a 2-3 psi out.....most tyres i have tried wont wheelie in the wet when stone cold but pilot powers do:yes: not sure if thats a good thing or not tho

What do the michelin cost for a 190 rear?

What do the michelin cost for a 190 rear?Retail you're paying up to and over $350, but retail's for suckers! and we're all suckers at times...I priced up a 190 Pilot Power just the other day for $300, but the tyre man usually looks after me well on the price!
Tip: Be polite and with a smile on your face say to the shop/salesperson "what's the best price you can do for me?" If you *confidently* use that approach when buying MANY things you will probably pay less for what they are advertising it retail as!! :first:

Can't wait for tomorrow!
I just finished mounting my wheels back on my bike with some nice new PP's. Never ridden on them before, so tommorrow is my test day.
Am running 180's on my K6 after much discussion and debate. I went with the recommendation of a few experienced riders.
I really rated the Pilot Sports, wasn't too keen on the BT014's as an all round tyre although the BT014's are definately good when running hot.

Good to hear about your milage on the PP,I was getting similar milage on the front of my 2000 Mille R with Diablo's. On the Super Duke the original Diablo on the rear lasted 3000km's and it was totally shagged, gone to the Strada and it's done 3500km's and appears half worn. Sorry for the highjack but I do rate the Strada,on the rear so far anyway;)

Do you mean that it has a different compound for the sides and middle? I didn't think that this was so for the Powers, only for the new Pilot Race series...?
Pilot Powers are awesome tyres though. My personal fave :niceone:

the diablos are a very round profile. By the sounds of it the PP's are quite triangular. So no, I'd resist the combo. Try the Diablo Strada if you want a longer lasting tyre for the rear, or go for the michys front and rear.

Good point, the importers blurb only mentions dual compound on the Power Race model. We certainly can't do Power Race sets for under $550.

Has anyone tried these or know of anyone that has? Recently converted to PP's and although a highly impressive tyre the rear is being spat out the back due to some above average acceleration from the back of my scooter :ride:
On a slightly different note I also have been trying out a 180 instead of a 190. Excellent responsive turning etc but have found myself riding off the side of them which surely ain't part of the plan. I'm concidering a 190 next time and was wondering what others experiences where when swapping back...

Yup have been great on the VTR1000, sharpened up the slow steering a bit and very fast to warm up. I had Diablos a while ago they were a bit skittery when cold. These are great. Agree on the high for sports tires mileage too. They seem to let me know exactly whats hapening, happy to roll on while tipped over with these puppies. Coming up for my third set - not intending to change to anything else.

I'm gonna be changing the Diablos that came with my current bike (929) to my old fave Pilot Powers very soon, probably in the next couple of weeks. The current rear is a 190, so I think I'll stick with that for the first time, just so that I'm not changing more than one variable at once. Really would prefer the 180 straight up, but for the purpose of learning...

Here's the ones from the auction. It looks kinda black in these, but is actually a kinda purple/blue colour. I'm not in love with the looks and think it looks a little bit gay in those colours (though it seems to get a lot of looks from people, and little kids always point at me when I'm on it, which I assume is 'cos the like the bike...I hope). Doesn't worry me though, as I spend most of my time in the seat so I can't see what it looks like.
That 954 of yours is in a good scheme. I'd rather one of them, they sound angrier and rev a fair bit quicker. At $8500 with 16kms on the clock though, this was too good a bike to pass up on.
I've only had it for a couple of weeks, and it's my first time on a bike in 3 months, but I already feel extremely comfortable on it, despite it being shod with tyres that I'm not really in love with. Damn good road bike.

Oh, and the choice of 190 tyre is to learn just how much slower it is on the 190 when turning in, and whether there's any other positives or negatives. As it's my first litre-ish bike, I just wanna experiment.

I'd put a 190 back on if they had them in stock where i'm getting them from 2morrow, but alas, no big deal.

The bike's not an absolute minter, got the odd scratch on the exhaust (not from a crash), and a small crack in the fairing near the screen, but effectively, nothing that worries me. I would replace the exhaust, but am quite liking the current sound when you give it some beans actually...and 'stealthy' is in this year :Police:

Hi Guys
Well, i only joined the site today
I stay in Namibia/Africa, and i own a GSXR1000K6.
Factory fitted with michelin pilot power! Great tyre, but unfortunately it only lasted about 2500km, and that is from the heat. We've been driving to a town a couple of weeks ago, and it was about 40 degrees. so the michelins had a little bit of a bubble gum effect. i bought the second set now.

Upping the pressures may help to stop the tyre from getting so hot...but then agian, I've never ridden in 40 degree heat. Worth a try though.

I've had 2000 kms out of my Pilot Powers on the ZXR400 and have been very impressed. After a near low-side taking I think too much of a not fully scrubbed in front, I have had so little squirming my confidence has increased markedly. Performance in the wet I haven't really assessed due to the marvelous month of weather we have had. They certainly loved the track and apparently could handle braking at the 100m mark into the hair-pin at Puke (thanks Jill). I wasn't prepared to test that theory.
I initially thought the tyres would be too much for my abilities (and they probably are) but I was convinced into them by the claims of durability. Here's hoping they last upwards of 7000km *fingers crossed* although at my WOF on Tuesday, the front had only 3mm depth. Ouch.
I'm thinking Pilot Sport or even Pilot Roads for my next set. Any opinions on these tyres?

Impressions...superb!! :2thumbsup ...and yes there's more than one layer of canvas :slap:
Under advisement I tried the 180 and hell it sure did cut a sharper line but I did find myself riding off the edges too often which caused some interesting slides/drifts  :wari: . Wicked power sliding out of corners!!!
Yesterday I had the local bike shop put a 190 PP on so I can gauge the differences between a 180 and 190 with the same brand tyre...$320 fitted and balanced
I can't see myself going to another brand at this stage :2thumbsup
