View Full Version : all rise...... for the Griso

dangerous
26th January 2006, 19:01
After a very long wait from Moto Guzzi the Griso has arived in NZ.
The Griso started of as a idea that was never meant to be reliesed with the 4 valve head 1000cc engine, but interset was so high that after four years and a change of ownership Moto Guzzi put the Gris
so into production.
The only change with the Griso is the engine it now has a 2 valve 1100cc engine, a new version of the old faithfull with a twin plug head and 6 speed gear box pushing a single sided swing arm.

Moto Guzzi I love it :first:

Nothing wrong with my arse...... all transverse twins by Guzzi are shaft, 97- 05 are all exposed like a car, so use a regular type of swing arm.

It' nice MG have stuck with the 2v motor and not put those fuck-ugly headlamps that seem to be fitted to naked bikes these day. Anyway, what diff does 3 ponies make to a bad rider :)

I know. She's forever asking. But I'm a tight arse and what with me saving up for a new machine myself, and the new golf clubs, then my new car, maybe even some shoes for the kids, and Mrs Biff needs a new iron - It's all about priorities ya see.

Nothing wrong with Guzzis though - there's some real nice uns out there. D's current (?) machine is very nice, and I like Skyriders Cali. But this new thing....sorry.....as girlie as camp Peruvian sausage jockey IMO.

They are a pretty neat bike. I bought mine for the long term and I feel it will last well and do plenty of touring miles as it is so comfortable.
The power and handling is comparable to the Daytona I had with the stage 2 kit, says a lot for Guzzi 4 valve Vs 2 valve eh?
And to my eyes they have potential, and even motorcycle celebs are buying them

I will do the can a bit later on.
It is nice to have a QUIET bike for a change, the MK1 has open pipes and the Grizzler just whispers along.
Give me a couple of thousand kays and I might have changed my mind
But for now I can't stop riding it
No bull, it handles as well as the Daytona, and I had a very pricy White power shock on that!

The Daytona was only 93Hp and the 2v heads 91Hp and most of that down low, so yeah theres not much between the two bikes.

Handling is great. In my couuple of rides to Akaroa on the Griso, I reckon it is quicker around the hills than my V11, even had the side stand on the Griso grinding away, they feel so light for a Guz aye man? :woohoo:

Yeah, nimble like a much smaller machine and it just wants to swoop into every corner. First is nice and low, unlike a few other Guzzis I have owned or test piloted.
Not sure how long the tyres are going to last, they sure are sticky!

*yawn* hasn't got a fairing, can't do 270+, not interested....:kick:

Nah, nice bike dude, they're damn styley, I like them. It's named after a famous Italian hitman or something, right?

It looks like it'd be really hard to hold on when you gas it. Even the older CBR600's are (one piece seat unit). It doesn't look like you can even drip with your knees if you give it a handfull...?

Dodgyiti
25th March 2006, 22:47
The power is even in it's delivery, and the riding position is enough to make speeds over 120 not too bad. I will get a bikini fairing for it soon-ish, but mainly to keep the rain out of the fancy guages, it is Italian after all :angry2:

And yes, I have dummied up my spare Mk1 bikini on it, no way it will fit so I am on the lookout for something suitable. The monster Ducati 'S' bikini would look super, but the price.....:eek5:

You Lucky Griso and Breva 1100 owners need to be aware of a problem with the early bikes..

http://morini.com.au/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2148&sid=7fb15468bff2f90752455ab

I have heard there is a recall in aussie and I know there is a tech alert out for the dodgy bearing in the CARC unit (rear drive) which has already been addressed by the factory. As Mr Roper says..

Once the factory stopped buying bearings from people with bones through their noses and started buying them from men in white coats with calculators and slide rules in their top pockets the problem went away.

Just check with your dealer which bikes are affected and DON'T accept the old "I know nothing" routine. This is a genuine factory admitted snaffu and they are fixing things (good on them for acting quickly - a new era indeed)

The factory has deemed it easier to replace the whole unit than dick about with rebuilds. I was told bikes made before dec 2005 but that could be any bike on the road now.

Cheers

Thought I was going to get a test ride while in Christchurch last week. But the dude who made the offer when we first walked in seemed more interested in polishing bikes. Didn't like to interrupt him, so left. It was a dead Tuesday morning after all. Will try again at another dealership where the retail assistants have a longer attention span.

Should've spoken up, that dude would've put you on to the right person to talk to. He isn't a sales person, I'm not sure exactly his what title is but he is the Hello man- directs people to what/who they need to see or the coffee pot & keeps the stock looking good & petrol in them for the test rides. He is a good dude & loves to chat to people.
Next time don't be shy!

Yup that was my bike, picked it up at about 5.30pm that night, ha ha and the silly thing was I forgot my chq book, pleased they let me ride and pay the following day. Hoping to head the that westport rally on sat, just thinking about it at the moment.

I think the Breva at Eric Wood, was involved in the recall, and thankfully my griso was made later.

Looking forward to getting out tomorrow and filling it with some more gas.... any excuse for a ride uh.
