Well, if the motorcycle gods are smiling upon me... and the part I am waiting for arrives from Aussie in time... then the wife and I shall be there.
Here's hoping for another scorcher. We're looking forward to sitting in the river drinking beer again.

Part arrived, bike is almost reassembled... I will know tonight if she's gonna be running well enough to get us there and back. For a change I haven't got any spare parts sitting around after reassembly so here's hoping.

BTW, I have a mate who's bike is also off the road at the moment but he and his missus are keen to come down... does anyone know if the Vincent is one of the rallies to have the "Must arrive on a bike" rule? I remember there being plenty of cars parked on the side of the road leading to the site last year so I assume they'll be fine if they drive the tin top down... but it would be a long way to go to get turned away at the gate just 'cos bike wasn't running.

I went to the 20th anniversary in 2004 along with Jimbo, Busa Jim and Fizzerman. The most wicked good weekend in modern history although it was a little cold. 880km down there on the Friday. 880km back on the Sunday. Simply the best riding roads in the country and the friendliest folks you'd ever hope to meet.

Gutted I'm missing another one.

Hi yes your friends will be fine with taking down a car, but I understand that instead of parking on the road down to the site cars will directed into a paddock along side the site. There will be a bike and trailer to take gear into the site.

Thanks, thats great to know... I didn't think there'd be a problem.

I doubt I'll make it all the way down tomorrow night after work, can anyone recommend a good place to stay around Twizel/Tekapo area? Preferable a cabin or backpackers so we don't have to pitch the tent and pack it again in the morning. Somewhere that won't mind us arriving about 8-9pm

BTW
I am happier than a pig in mud today, got the bike fully re-assembled last night and she seems to be running fine (although I'm always a little paranoid about gasket seals etc leaking)... and with a day to spare, how good is that. Nothing like these last minute repair jobs.

Carry on another 20km to Omarama - the pub on the corner on the laft as you get into the town there will do you a deal of $25 for bed and breakfast - and give you a good spot to park the bike. (will that's what it was like last time I was there)

For those who are feeling disappointed at missing out on the vincent Rally, Its just started raining here in Central Otago. :shit:

Its been so long since I saw water falling out of the sky I've just about forgotten what it was. Oh well, the wet T contest won't need any additional water. :woohoo:

Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy it... I guess everyone has different expectations etc...
The missus and I personally had a great time, really nice ride there and back (only a little light rain going through Burkes Pass). Good time sitting in the sun knocking back a few beers on Saturday. I will admit that the one band left a little to be desired as did the lack of competitions etc, but hey... ya can always make your own fun. As for tittie show... well I must admit that I feel there's always room for more lovely exhibitionist ladies at bike rallies to tease us poor ol' lecherous buggers, it's just a pity that most kiwi girls are generally too conservative. But 'good on ya' to the ones who did get up on stage.
And what ya complaining about the entry fee for??? if ya don't want to pay $30 then pre-register for $20... or join Bronz and get in for $15.
(Note: We paid $30 each at the gate, because we weren't sure if we'd have the bike going in time, and have no problems with it)

I am a little surprised at your comments, the competitions well first of all they tried the Tug of War and other than the couple of teams that fronted up (3 guys teams and one girls) did you give that a go ??? And since no one shows much intrest in comps there really any point in trying much else I mean if you had an idea why not tell them?? As for the entertainment okay so the Saturday afternoon Steve Lewis could have been a little better the Band The Vetigos later on rocked as far as I was concerend a lot better than last year. There was a Tattoo contest did you miss that one as well ?? There was a best bikes but thanks to the fact of idiots at the front of the stage not shutting up and the fact that one guy even had the nerve to claim a prize for a bike that wasn't his that was given a miss until the real owners could be found and as for the Wet T etc other than running slightly late I thought there was a pretty good showing of the amount of girls on stage I mean if there was a wet Jocks would you have fronted up ????
I had a great weekend and I don't drink so whats your excuse ?!!!!:msn-wink:

Southern Girl
10th February 2006, 14:53
Oh and the "titie contest" lasted a hell of a lot longer than five minutes both Wet T and No T I am sure that the crowd in front of the stage at that time were there for a while they looked like they where enjoying it just as much as the girls on stage !!!

Hey don't get me wrong, I don't mean to sound like an agro person it's just when you are on the side where you actually know the people that organise the thing and the amount of work they put into before the rally and during it so people can go there and have a good time you feel a little upset when people say they reckon they where ripped off etc, I mean even the people that run the thing have to pay entry to it as well !! and its not a money making rally either the money is actually donated to MDA.

I agree with Southern Girl,
A great Rally had by all that did attend, I was one of those people working on the gate as well as the beer tent, and I never heard a bad comment. I was up prancing and dancing into the wee small hours and found plenty to keep myself occupied. Looking at the bikes and talking to the other riders and touring around the local area is what its all about. I travelled 8 1/2 hours and have done every year for the past 4 to get to this rally. BRONZ Otago are open to suggestions on activities to hold and are always open to feedback.
Most of the crew where at the site from early on in the week and stay long after to do the clean up. The whole rally was GREAT....I'll be back again next year.

Us too... we had a really great time again this year and will deffinately be back next year for more. Thanks so much to the people who put in all the hard work setting up, running and cleaning up aferwards... much appreciated.
A question though... the tug of war was, as far as I'm aware, the only 'game' during the day... did I just miss the rest or were there none? Am I just odd in my enjoyment of to getting involved and having a bit of fun with activities like this or are there others out there that would be supportive of it? I remember the first rally I went to many years ago there were wheelie bin races, pie eating competition, best helmet competition, tug of war and all sorts of other crazy stuff (as well as the usual burnouts, tattoo, wet-t etc) right through the day and everyone had a ball... kinda miss that at many of the rallies we've been to lately.

There wern't as many events this year as it was planned that, with the mail out that BRONZ sent out they had advertised that the Chatto Creek Motorcycle Show was meant to be on the same weekend also it was advertised in their newsletter and in the paper, it was organised that there would be shuttles running from the Rally to the show for those wanting to have a look and also there was a rally section organised in the show for those wanting to enter their bikes then the Show was cancelled about a week before the rally (note most of the people organising the VCR are there from about tuesday wednesday before the Rally to set up), then I also know that the organisers had a Bucking Bronco competition organised for during the day, something they where sure would keep people entertained and busy, The person who ran the Bucking Bronco decided two days out from the rally (apparently about 1000 people wouldn't be profitable enough for them) to pull out as well. So....unfortunaltey due to these two things that they thought would keep people entertained and busy during the day only the Tug of War was organised. Its hard to organise things and get people involved, getting 3 male teams and one female team for the Tug of War took over half an hour and a lot of haggling as well even after calling out over the PA system quite a few times. If there are any events at all that people would think viable and easy to do I am sure that it would be more than apreciative to hear them as keeping the Rally enjoyable and intresting is certainly what is wanted.

I've helped to run events at the Vincent and I can tell you the rally attenders can be a fickle lot - one year they line up for events, next year you need a whip to get them on their feet to have a go.

Still a fun rally any way you look at it.

And what a site!!

Hell yeah!! Vincent time again. One of my favorite rallies. Hopefully it's another good hot one again this year, make up for all the crap weather we've been having so far this "summer".
Haven't had the bike out much (at all) over last couple months, just been to busy, so hopefully the ol' girl's still running ok. She tends to get a little tempremental if she's left locked in the shed for too long (just like the wife really).
I guess I'd better get on to booking some accomodation for friday night... It's too far to go all the way after finishing work on Friday night, Tekapo is about the limit.

Hey Dudes and Dudess's.

I am definately going to the Vincent but cant think past the coming weekend at Woodstock, i loved that rally last year, my second one, fab weather mad people, loads of beer and chit chat ab fab,

I get there with my fellow Bronze crew on Wednesday to set up the site ,catch trout for tea and build up my tolerance for beer, then we take down the site and trot back on Monday, so I cant wait, us Bronzee's stopped there last sunday to have a get together and had a scream there, the site is flat, gorgeous and what a wicked setting, I could almost feel the bank thumping through my veins.

There were a bunch of bilygoats there sharing the field with us, and I half expected to wake up with just the pole for the tent being there, as you expect goats to eat everything, but they behaved themselves, one of them got split form the rest, so I helpe (or rather chased him) back to the herd, bloddy thing kept turning on me and showing his horns, so I showed him my teeth barked at him !!! (I dont know why!) and he turned and hot footed it back to his mates, and it was rather sweet to see the reunion going on.

So see you guys there, for all the fun which is rapidly approaching, any dudes partying up to Hoki?
