View Full Version : A question for the cops.

Today while i was riding my bike I happened to notice a police officer in full uniform driving a daihatsu sirion, one can only assume he was going to or from his job. I was travelling behind him (this is on the open rd) and he was doing bout 120 according to my speedo, crossing tthe white lines on coners and some other naughty things, I wanted to pass him because it was my favourite stretch of road coming up and knew i'd be going faster then him but was too scared to pass him incase he got my plate number. Ths is the question, should I have been worried? Can cops take down your plate and give u a ticket later? do they bother? Can they pull you over when not in a official car?

Yes too most of those questions, we have had one of the site cops tell us a bout times when they have done this,(posted ticket in the mail) also our FC group has been stopped at the side of the road when an off duty Police Officer, stopped showed his ID then gave one of our group a bloody good bollocking, ......but no ticket, ever came.
given what you have described doubt you would have got a ticket had you passed him, but I guess you never know.

edit, not sure about pulling you over in their private car, but if you happen to stop, or they catch up with you at the lights or whatever....

Isn't a more likely scenario, just calling in and getting an on duty mate down the road to collar you?

it depends on there point of view/mood i 'spose; when they're off duty. i.e Are they in a bad mood, are you being dangerous/wreckless etc.
My sisters part of a 'rapid response' section in the UK; off duty if someone pisses her off she'll give chase, bollock 'em and if they wanna give her lip she'll pull the ID and give 'em a true bitch slap.
She thinks its hilarious how people wanna give her shit then become flacid limp wristed roosters when she pulls the ID.
remember.. most people in authority say "Do as i say.. not as i do"

Because they have to deal with the dregs of society everyday and also have their name dredged in shit before even talking to you.

Or more appropriately, "Do not do as I do, but do do as I tell you."

how can you be sure it was a cop? full uniform? you said he was in a car - what colour pants? did you see the POLICE flashes on the arms, could it maybe have been a security guard with similar markings and in a blue shirt? how about airport security? how about a fireman? how about military police?

I've always wondered that as well.
You'd think that with 90% of the public being cunts, the cops level would be higher.
Ah well just another mystery I'll never understand:scratch:

I can tell you that the cop that pulled me over before christmas was a knee. That's lower than a cunt.
However the one that let me off last year when I was driving a rarely used 4x4 with no warrant and no rego was a really good cunt. My opening line was "It's your lucky day buddy"
So does this make them all cunts?

Riding along the one of the straightest pieces of road in NZ just enjoying the solitude of a quiet road, in good weather at a leisurely pece and the only other car on the road for miles just happens to be Rozzer. Books me for 113 KM/H with an instant fine. In my view he was an Ankle.
Couple of days later on exiting a keen corner with the gas rolled on, Agh Fuck its a Rozzer, roll off the power and feather brakes, quick speedo glance Shit still 120, Im gonna get done. Jolly old Rozzer just flashes his headlights gives me a big grin and waggles his finger. Yup a good cunt I reckon..

Well back on subject a few years back, when stopping for gas, a bloke swings into the service station in front of me, leaps from his car (almost frothing at the mouth with rage) and announces that he is an off duty cop and proceeds to rant and rave about my cornering overtaking skills. I told him, in an assertive fashion, that if I had broken the law then book me and if I hadn't then just Fuck off...! He took the latter of the choices and I heard no more..? Maybe a wannabe imposter or perhaps rozzer out noting in front of his family & friends.? Who cares either way he was still a dick.!

once a cunt always a cunt .....
last week i was walking out of the warehouse here in cambridge, and noticed a guy in his 50's, sitting in the driver's seat of his BMW, drinking beer from a swap-a-crate. 'none of my business' i thought. 'all the cops are tied up' i thought (there had just been a big car chase around cambridge culminating in the bad guys crashing near my house) .
couldn't leave it alone though could i, and i approached the guy, telling him i had called the police, and they were coming (i hadn't and they weren't). he said 'fair enough'. then he said 'what for?' he was pissed. real pissed. he had urinated right outside the driver's door, and was CUT.
i thought fuck it, and reached in a pulled the keys out of the ignition. he wasn't very happy bout that, and got out, and we had a wee pushing match over the bonnet of his car, until i quietly explained the consequenses of his actions to him.
he then said my name, and i realised that i had pinged him fro drink driving about 4 years ago (must have left an impression huh?). i locked his car, and told him he could pick up his keys from the station in the morning.

Wat! He endangered his family! He SPED! Did 120 kph in a non police car (he would have had to, to get an (approximate) speed check)! He could've killed himself and his entire family - we all know how dangerous non police cars are over 100 kph! Why, they just throw themselves off these killer roads! The ticket was obviously for the endangerment :hitcher: you made him put his family in.

I thought we were innocent untill proven guilty in this country and here you are acting like Wyat Earp because you saw a guy drinking beer in his car (a stationary car). Yup I know I will provoke the old "but Im saving lives" and "Ive seen too much gurgling blood before" story but acting like judge, jury and executioner is not the way for anyone to behave (especialy for a rozzer). If you want to drag drunken pricks out of thier cars and provoke a scrap in the premise that they may drive (and gloat about your bravery here) then you have chosen the wrong profession. Do it right or don't do it at all..

Revenue collectors get away with too much... as I am still driving a car (as much as I hate it), they seem to do drivers for the same things they get away with... last night, driving through town (hamilton, off victoria street south). Went round a corner, there was a stupid car in the middle of the fluffing road, completely stopped, holding his brakes, I do a quick check, no pedestrians or other moving vehicles, and quickly go around him, go down another street, park, get out my car, and a cop starts bitching at me about how i could have run over someone and that I'm going to get a ticket in the mail???
Anyway, dropped some friends off this morning (5am Saturday) in my dad's 7-seater, on my way back, and this cop revs past me, right across a median (NO FLASHING LIGHTS). 50km area, he got too about 80 - 90 km/h... now I ask, where's the justice

What he needed was to be dragged from his car and smashed into a bloody fucking mess by an outraged member of the public.

I remember about 15 years ago I was in my Honda prelude and I
was driving badly - not drunk (ie) I passed a car on a median
strip and wasn't wearing my seatbelt * urgh cringe*
anyway...I notice i'm getting followed by a motorcycle down a few roads, so I eventually pull over and it pulls up behind me. The M/C rider comes over (he took his helmet off ) and gives me a bollocking and said the next time he sees me do something like that he will be in uniform and he will give me a ticket - but he didn't then. I assumed cos he wasn't on the job and he was out leisurely riding his bike.
I deserved one tho. and he did make me think about my driving - it did actually sink in what he did/said.
Now riding a bike myself I understand why the guy was soooo angry at a dangerous driver!!

A guy walks into a crowded bar he yells "All of you on the right of me are cunts, all of you on the left are wankers" Drinks a beer and walks out.
Half an hour later he comes back in and again yells "all of you on the right of me are cunts, all of you on the left are wankers"
The local tough guy comes up to him and says "I'm no wanker" so he says "Well get over there with the cunts then"

Yeah but atleast drunk people tend to get over confident so your garunteed a good race down the motorway.
Last night some idiot was trying to race me (sothern motorway) in a Dimante, after a few close calls (i'm talking inch's) with the walls on off ramps, I decided to edge off and give him some space (as not to provoke anyone getting killed). He didn't slow down, so f*ck it.
Would you class speeding the same as you class drink driving?
Should I have waited till he was at the lights then taken his keys off him and said, "you can pick them up from the police station".
Taking someones keys doesn't resolve a situation, it only prolongs it (he's gonna do it next week). If you were really concerned about the matter, you should have delt him a good lesson. Smashed the sh*t out of him, shown him some pictures of some dead mates killed in Drunken accidents, then told him if he does it again you'll personally crash hit nuts in a vice (or something of similar value).

I don't take the law into my own hands though this scene would have appeared to have looked bad and there is a high probability that marty was right (being a cop and all). Though it might have been completely innocent and a guy gets victimised by an off duty cop who is stuck with a (very narrow) mindset. If I had seen similar and had alarm bells ringing then I would have rung the Rozzers to do the job they are paid to do.
Yup dead right about the family there mate and it might be some twit hurtling around a corner (well above the speed limit) on his busa out of control because his tyre is down to the cords thats cuts my family car in half.. Hope he doesn't mind if somoene removes his bike keys (to save som souls) next time they see him out on his bike in such a poor state..
Empty the stones out of your pockets before entering glasshouses remember you are/were a cop and need to be clean before you start throwing your weight around like a cop. Me I'm a nobody and a hoon from way back, admit to riding my motorcycle way above the speed limit (though I responsibly maintain it) and have a dislike for cops that lead two lives in and out of uniform.

It's not about taking the law into your own hand's, its about taking the keys off someone you know is pissed as hell, and you know the cops are too busy to be able to stop pissed as hell driver from killing someone. You have a responsibility to intervene as a member of this society, not to lay back like a pussy and say I don't care its a job for the cops.
Though it might have been completely innocent and a guy gets victimised by an off duty cop who is stuck with a (very narrow) mindset. If I had seen similar and had alarm bells ringing then I would have rung the Rozzers to do the job they are paid to do.
Yep the guy just happened to be absolutely pissed in a public place, with a crate of beer and his keys in the Ignition. It doesn't take Steven Hawkings to work out that said driver might attempt to drive home while pissed.
Yup dead right about the family there mate
etc etc
You can't even begin to compare the two, theres a huge difference between someone whose pissed as a twat and is out to kill someone and a rider whose rear tire is slightly bald and doesn't know it yet.
Martys not a cop, he used to be, but I would hope that anyone would have the balls to remove a drunken shit from the roads. Its fkin common sense, if your comfortable riding the same roads as some twat whose so pissed he's pissing beside his car then good on you. I just hope we can charge the Bill to your family.
I would say kudos to Marty and less kudos to apathetic pricks .

Marty, I think you did good. Thats my opinion because I would prefer someone off the road than driving into me. Maybe all those that are getting their hackles up about it have done it before and they don't like the idea of it. Opinions might or might not change when its a friend or relatives blood on the ground and the drunk you saw in his car 5 minutes ago leaning against a post.

He took his keys, told him where to find them, he didn't need them. He got off lightly.
I've done the same, saw a drunk driver in the Hutt some years ago and after ringing the cops and then following him for 10 mins waiting for them to arrive I stopped behind him at the next lights and took his keys off him. He was pissed as a chook and he was lucky not to have an accident.
BTW a drunk wiped out 2 cyclists from the rear in the Hutt late last year in front of a work mate. The c8nt just kept on driving. I'd of run him into a lamppost if I'd been there.
and off the record, I reckon it's open season on drunk drivers. The public venting at them is going to be more effective than policing. This "don't take the law into your owns hands" is bullshit, the public taking action will actually change things.
So I'm with Marty, and the rest can f!@# off.

i agree with Marty and take the dickheads keys, there is no way i could live with myself if the guy drives out of the car park and he ran over a little kid and his dad...and i could have done something to prevent it....
if we whinge and moan about the attitude of cops towards bikers maybe its time we as a collective group look at our attitude first and see if what we are doing actually draws attention to all bikers...

Take a deeper look her guys, a lot miss my point. I would have the balls to get that guy off the road by dobbing him in and would have no problem with loking him in the eye across a court room and testifying against him (have done so before). We don't live in the Wild west anymore and whilst I commend martys intentions, his actions I condemn. We all so easily assume that the guy was pissed and going to drive pissed and I also read all the emotive crap added in here for impact. Whats to say that the guy had made a decision not to drive because he was pissed and was waiting for his missus to come and pick him up..? Or what if it was his first beer and he was way below the limit..? Judgement call or not it is only our duty to dob them in and let the appropriate (designated) authority deal with it. Do you grab a guy and accuse him of intending rape when he is standing on th side of the road, pissed and staring at a solo women..? None of us, including marty, are paid or empowered to make such a judgement call though it is our duty to alert trouble to those who are meant to deal with it (its very easy nowadays)..
I also have a law enforcement background (not a Rozzer though) my colleagues and I were furiously puristic in our approach to the role (you have to be) and practised what we preached. I am quite happy that others are now doing it and leave it to them to make the judgement calls.

We don't live in the Wild west anymore ....
It all depends on the the circumstances - in the last year I've seen 1 cage driver drinking beer while stopped at the traffic lights; smelled and then spotted 2 cage different drivers smoking dope while driving; would never have even thought about taking keys. Not good - but their driving was not that bad - and if you want to take on amateur law enforcement you will be kept very busy (lucky to travel more than 10 km without making phone calls).
But, a few years ago I did see woman driving, with a man and small kid in a car. She was all over the road - followed her for about 15 Km - she was on the wrong side on several corners in a 100 km area. Followed her all the way to town - too dangerous to overtake. Rang the cops when she stopped (Collingwood - so not where there is a cop on very corner). They all go into the pub - I think they are not likely to be able to get out again still standing - so unless the 2 year old kid's gonna drive they aren't going anywhere.
Later the cops ring back and say she's gone and they don't know where she is. I should have taken the keys, or something that would have stopped them. Have a look at the latest North South magazine, or think about the guy in Dannevirke a few years ago who wiped out 5 people at Christmas. Their keys should have been taken, and that's what I should have done. Luckily, nothing happened - but when someone is on the wrong side of the road on blind corners, it could be anyone coming the other way.
You have to make the decision on what you find, and I would be very slow to say anyone made the wrong call unless I was there. Calling the cops, taking the keys, and just keeping looking out for yourself are all options.

I've taken dudes' keys a couple of times, both times they were pissed as. One I left them at his home, t'other I didn't know so I left them at the cop shop. Hidden keys quite a few times, and even pulled the HT lead off the coil once or twice (figure if they're alert enough to figure what's wrong, find it and fix it they're probably not too bad).
But can't say I do it by any rule. 'tis a judgement thing each time. Marty did say that as well as having a drink, the guy seemed already half seas over.
'Tis all in who does it. If I was drunk as a skunk, and about to try and ride off, I'd hope someone would stop me, or at least try. On t'other hand, I wouldn't want some Mrs Grundy going into a spazz fit and trying to do something heroic if I just had a couple of beers over a few hours. 'Tis all in the judgement

were going to have to agree to disagree here terbang, as i beleive that i have the necessary skills and knowledge to make the call that i did. a prosecution would never have succeeded (i know this from case law experience), i knew that there were no police available, so i made a judgment call. if that comes back to bite me, then i shall will by my decision.
and it wasn't his first - he told me, and there was 4 empty big bottles on the pax seat. no-one was coming to pick him up - he told me. he would have driven home. he lives in the country, and was waiting for it to get dark - i know this cause he told me.
at the end of the day, i removed his keys with his permission, and a thankyou.
dangers of not knowing the full story i guess. my fault for not tellng the whole shebang....

once a cunt always a cunt .....
last week i was walking out of the warehouse here in cambridge, and noticed a guy in his 50's, sitting in the driver's seat of his BMW, drinking beer from a swap-a-crate. 'none of my business' i thought. 'all the cops are tied up' i thought (there had just been a big car chase around cambridge culminating in the bad guys crashing near my house) .
couldn't leave it alone though could i, and i approached the guy, telling him i had called the police, and they were coming (i hadn't and they weren't). he said 'fair enough'. then he said 'what for?' he was pissed. real pissed. he had urinated right outside the driver's door, and was CUT.
i thought fuck it, and reached in a pulled the keys out of the ignition. he wasn't very happy bout that, and got out, and we had a wee pushing match over the bonnet of his car, until i quietly explained the consequenses of his actions to him.
he then said my name, and i realised that i had pinged him fro drink driving about 4 years ago (must have left an impression huh?). i locked his car, and told him he could pick up his keys from the station in the morning.
what a cunt i am.
i agree with what you did man but your not a cunt your a dumb cunt.
i would've taken the other full bottles of piss home with me.
hahahahha
then i would've been a clever cunt or crafty cunt.

Why are you so quick to refute Marty's version ?
Whats to say that the guy had made a decision not to drive because he was pissed and was waiting for his missus to come and pick him up..? Or what if it was his first beer and he was way below the limit..?
Yeah right - I bet he was drinking Tui...
I am quite happy that others are now doing it and leave it to them to make the judgement calls.
I like to be able to think for myself when required.

spare key in the megneto box tucked up under the body work somehwere comes in handy for situations like these. though if your to drunk to find the spare an get it out of the box. you shoudln drive. which you wont .cause you cant find the key.
