Well the title pretty much sums it up, I'm after anything that I can drop into my frame and hook up (or if anyone can tell me what might fit so I can keep my eyes peeled), 250 ideally for legal reasons but I figure the warrant shop guys wouldn't pick one old engine from another and the cc rating can be ground off a block. 4 stroke/2 stroke, whatever. My wife is a week overdue with our second baby so I suppose I should have know the bike would die just now but thats life eh?

Keep an eye out for any old single cylinder dirt bike motor, XR500, DR350's all sorts, you been pulling to many wheelies and giving death to the poor GN mate?

we have a motor at work a 200 cc four stroke ....brand new with carb electrics etc. $500 looking at the mounts i think it may bolt straight in the mounting looks exactly the same as my bare old gn frame but i havnt got round to checking if the mounting is the same...if you come into work i can show you it and see if it will be suitable?..
maybe bring the bike in on a trailer or something?

Mark, I will do, that sounds like what I'm after, got anything 2 stroke? edit: How much to put it in, assuming it's a straight swap? I'm short of garage time with the new baby and all.
LB, you inspired me, I've had the pegs down a wee bit but I'm not a bike killer. The bolt in the crank case might have more to answer for than me. Ah well, I got it cheap w/ WOF + Rego.

What you need is a CR/KX500 engine

nothing in 2 stroke sorry ummm not sure how long to put it in if it's a straight swap probably not long at all would you need it all wired to the existing loom etc....how much of the rest of the bike is there LOL to bolt the motor in if the mounts are the same it's probably 30 mins to bolt it in but then the wiring is the fun part to run it into the existing loom.
depends how much really could't tell you without a bit more info as i don't quite know how much of the bike is there

Somehow doubt it would be a straight swap. In the end it may be cheaper to rebuild your engine. What's wrong with it?

I think a DR250 is the same isn't it?

XTC; Don't know whats wrong with it but I know from the sounds it made its bad, I don't know if I could see any value in rebuilding a bike thats had shrapnel floating around inside it.
Mark; the whole things there and is in good but not pretty working order aside from the actual motor. Do you guys get engines in other than the one you have and what kind of price am I looking at?
Does anyone have a "friend" *wink* who has a bigger (350-400cc) engine in a two fiddy frame and doesn't get hassled by the man or given greif at the warrant shop? Would I get away with this, the standard motor was ok in traffic but then would do 120 max whan the motor way free'd up and although I doubt I'd go faster (cough, cough) I don't really like using the maximum engine speed as a kind of cruise control. Thanks to everyone who's answered so far and if there are any cheepys for sale let me know, I have just had the engine reco'ed in our second car and it will be on tardme soon so the proceeds will be spent on getting me back on the road asap.

I doubt they'd fit that easily as they're honda motors and not suzuki
You need a suzuki engine I think.

your looking at 500 for the carb engine etc....i could probably get the boss to throw in the cdi etc.
i could wire it up for you and all that i would allow maybe 3 hours to get it all right and everything $45 an hour but ill see if i can do it cheaper for you mate..
