Got my bike today! Am stoked! :2thumbsup
Nudemetalz rode it down all the way from Wellington for me (many many thanks for all your efforts on my behalf mate), and brought it over to my place after I finished work. We then met up with Sniper and JWalker and went off down to the pub, Sniper and JWalker on bikes, me and nudemetalz in my cage. Bit of socialising and toasting ensued, then Sniper and JWalker went back to Snipers place while I dropped nudemetalz where he was staying. Then got home. 10.20pm... *drumming fingers*
...
Alright already, I'm going for a ride! :D
After filling it up with gas (it was on reserve, cheers nude! :p) I went for a bit of a ride up and down a quiet road near my place. Bike went great, no frights in the revs at all, just smooth and progressive right through the rev range no matter the gear. So I thought I'd use the main roads to get back home again. No worries at all, though if it sits idling for a minute it seems to conk out, even when it's warm. *Shrug* Probably me.
Nudemetalz has had the tank and front faring repainted (thanks Crazefox), replaced the fork seals and oil, given it a new front brake pad and done various other bits and pieces to it, so it's in great nick. And insured for $162 a year, full cover, with $500 excess. ;)
So, I'm now on two wheels!! :blip:
Where are my manners? Pics of the beastie. It's a Suzuki NZ250-S btw.

Sure have been hanging out for it. Looking forward to having a little more confidence with a manual bike - had never ridden one except on my basic handling test. The ride last night went fine though, so I'll go for a longer ride today and enjoy one of my very rare weekend days off. :)
Pics will hopefully be posted of the ride, all going well.

Good stuff bigbadwolf :)
Had much experience on two wheels? I haven't, so I still feel a bit worried about riding around in traffic and in town. Want to get the feel of it a bit more, make sure I'm comfortable on the saddle. I 'spose the easiest way to do that is to just get out and ride, but it'd be nice to be able to do it on some quieter roads than those around my place. Any quiet roads around your place? Could meet up when you get your bike and go around the block 20 times to get used to it! :D

You've got the right attitude DE. Just take it easy and it'll flow. Better to ride for years than for a day.

quiet roads around my place? i'm about 2 blocks away from riccarton mall! so yeah theres quite a bit of traffic near me. but there are a few back streets around the university that are ok, although the amount of speed bumps is bordering on insane... maybe we could try riding around in avonhead? its not terribly busy and the roads are fairly straight, few roundabouts chucked in the mix to give us a bit of a challenge!
i'm about the same as you in terms of experience, been riding pushbikes for years and done a wee bit of downhill stuff on them, but in terms of bikes with motors i havent done much. couple of scooters and an automatic dirtbike a few years ago is about it.
anyway, i'll hit you up with a PM when my bike arrives! :2thumbsup

Great stuff.
You guys should look at a nice quite ride out through Halswell, down old Tai Tapu road, across to Lincoln through there to Rolleston, Rolleston to West Melton, then back to town will take you 2 hours tops and give you both a good shakedown run in varied traffic on the flat land. The summit is a great ride but get to know your respective bikes. Akaroa once you get a little more confidant.
When I get my bike back on the road I will join you in a similar ride.

man that sounds awesome dude. i used to live out at halswell and its very quiet out there, would be suitable for a nice decent ride! also when we get a bit more experienced we should up dyers pass road to the sign of the kiwi, then right across the summit road and back into chch. its an amazing drive/ride, i'm thinkin of headin up there the day i get my bike (maybe after a fair bit of practice first!)

Well done, Dev Esq, !!!
Good to see you enjoying the wee beasty.
The ride down to ChCh was quite a mission, rode in fog in the early hours of the morning (read: still dark) in thick fog !! Visibility 5 metres !! (yes 5).
I had another mission getting back home. Yesterday was due back to fly to Welly but it was closed due to fog, so I spent most of yesterday sitting in 2 different airports !!!
Was due to get the 7am flight to Welly, instead I flew from ChCh to Auckland at 10am, waited and waited then at 1pm flew Auckland to Welly, made a missed approach and flew back to Auckland, waited and waited at the terminal then flew Auckland back to ChCh. Got in at 11pm. So between 7am and 11pm I wasted a day and went right back to where I started from !!!!!!!
Oh did I mentioned waiting in queues for ages and ages with baggage amid screaming babies and obnoxious tourists ???......
Got back to Welly today at 2.30pm.
I hope you really appreciate the NZ-250, Dev Esq, 'cause if ya don't ,then :bash:

LOL Chris :p
Yeah I really do appreciate the bike mate. Rode it to work today, no hitches at all even in the early morning traffic. Not very smooth with gears yet, but getting there. The ride home was much better actually, again, in the evening traffic, but noticeably smoother with changing gears, slowing down, speeding up etc. Cornering and roundabouts haven't been any problem, but then, I've never been worried about leaning over into a corner, never really been worried that I'm not going to make it through. Just look where I want to go and have wound up there so far.
Really looking forward to the ride tomorrow night. I'm much more comfortable in the saddle than I was the first time I hopped on it, and even yesterday when I rode into town to see Sniper at work. But then, that was only the 2nd time I'd been on it. I might have to borrow a jacket and some gloves if I can, Sniper! :sweatdrop
Edit: Ooo, OAB's keen? Cool, look forward to meeting you. :) Your posts have always been interesting for me to read, so it'll be good to meet the man behind the legend! :)
And BigBadWolf, just let me know when you've got your bike and keen for a ride - I'll bowl over. Can't get on the bike enough at this point, so every excuse to hop on it again will be happily accepted. Actually, if any other Christchurch KBers will ever suddenly feel like a random ride now and then, PM me, then text me when you feel the need. I'll join in!
Cheers, Redge
