Didn't know where to put this...didn't seem to be relvant to buying section, its more of an opinion post?

Anyway, I am looking at an imported bike, its from the UK, it is a 1998 Aprilia RS125, paint and decals as per photo. Details as follows:
R&G carbon barends
carbon indicators
carbon yoke cover.
New X ring chain and aprilia sprokets.
Smoked screen.
Single Race seat conversion plus twin seat as spare.
Telefonica paint job.
New michellin pilot power tyres (800km ago)
Aprilia chrome exaust hanger, chain gaurd.
Braded hoses.
Uprated brake fluid reservoir.
EBC HH pads.
New clutch cable and throttle cables.
JL Twin exaust.

It's had a recent rebuild but apparantly the garage didn't put fully synthetic oil in and instead put "premix"? Which caused a low speed top end seizure, bottom end is fine but it will need a new piston.

I know there aren't many 125's around but what would it be worth, it looks mint and I'm sure I can do the rebuild myself...but what re-sale value would it have? What would you pay? I can't afford to lose copious amounts of money on a hobby at present.

EDIT: Oops forgot to mention 24,000km

Dude thats an awesome bike. Sorry, I'm not sure how much it would be worth

That does look nice doesn't it, my guess is that whatever you pay you won't lose too much money, but you will have a hard time trying to find a buyer at the money you want. No point guessing the price, they range from $3,000 to $8,000 depending on how much the owner wants for it.

Well thats the kind of info on price I'm needing though...someone had a standard RS125 for 4500-5500 on TM recently and got told it was only worth 3K (which I don't believe), I'd like to get my money back once it was done up...around 4.5K or more. I'll have to ring someone to find out what a new piston/ring is worth? Anyone know?

But I'm not sure how much demand there is for a 125? Even if it is 2-stroke...people seem eager to learn on 250 2-strokes. The 125 would give a 250 4stroke a run for its money though, I think top end is about 175km/hr?

An Aprilia with Honda logos on it, yearning to be a real race bike one day? (pt). If the bike is road legal Id suspect should the right buyer come along you could get 6k for it. But the paint job is too over the top for me, be allright on a Honda though.:argh:

What have you been smoking midnight mike?

Wildcat, resale on one of those are roughly $5k to $6.5k.

Something to bear in mind - nothing that you add to a bike increases it's second hand value over a stock second-hand version of the same bike. I'm with Sniper on this one.

Thanks guys, it is a bit sad that is Honda logo'd...its a little off-putting but...it looks fantastic! I'm with Jim2 on this. Although it may improve the looks/performance of a bike, no-one likes to pay for them when buying (me incl) so are hard to factor into resale...I'll have to give it some serious thought....mmmmmm

only a tryhard would have put honda stickers on an aprilia. stay away from it, and find one locally

in fact, i just had a look at an aprilia rs125, and there seems to be some big differences in shape of fairings/swing arm etc to that one you have - is it even an aprilia?

That looks seriously messed with, I'd keep away big time. Hard to tell from the photo, but if it's an rs125, it's a single. What smacktard put a twin muffler setup on it? More weight, great.... plus the Honda stickers, that's weird too... but you could peel them off. It's blown up once, had the oil system played with, has stupid mods, and is 8000 miles away. Keep away from it. (unless of course it's $1500nz)

I don't currently have it, but I was wanting a 2nd opinion on if it was worth it if I did...so far very helpful.

I'm sure its an Aprilia, it has an uneven swingarm so can't compare other side. Frame is definately Aprilia, and fairings (except custom seat) looks standard I thought? Here is a link to bikepics for a 1998 RS125 to compare.

Thanks for the advice thus far...

Prey tell why would pre mixed petrol sieze the engine? Sound like bollocks to me.
Offer the owner a pound.
