Saying an RS4 shits on a ferrari is like saying a honda cub shits on a suzuki.
28 days suspension is mandatory. He hasn't got his fine yet.
Car doesn't get impounded unless its under the boy racer act (as far as im aware).

Been there, done that. The only ferrari an RS4 would take out would have to be pre 348 i'd say (maybe a 355 if you're lucky). Unless of course you cheat and up the boost...

RS4's are fast and grip pretty well, but depends which ferrari you take on.....wouldn't shit on an Enzo, and I doubt it would beat a well peddled F430 around a track. RS4's are fast off the line (if you are willing to break drive shafts) but like all (stock) 4 wheel drives they suffer understeer on a fast track.

With all that fruit, 4.8 ain't that good and it would certainly not get all Porsche's particulary a 997 Bi-Turbo with a factory upgrade - just to keep it fair. A stock GT2 would kill it. It's just too dam heavy and drifts like log on the track. The rsgt3 is natually asperated too.
The 288gto & F40 are old models and are pigs.

The RS2 would do that with just a lightened flywheel (380ish HP).
Never saw any upgraded 4's meself. The 6 got a bit too heavy.

Well, I dunno.
Girlie at work's partner was taking her Sportster for a ride after an oil change (and fitting of some blingy new sidecovers) and got pinged on the NW motorway for over 140. I asked if he lost his licence and she said "No - just a hefty fine." Sounds a bit odd, unless she got the speed wrong. I thought it was a mandatory loss of licence for 140+. :spudwhat:

Yeh I've driven the RS2 - they're the ones with porsche spec on 'em. Bit older i think.

Hmmm, Ferrari F430 = 0-100 in 4 secs, Enzo = 0-100 in 3.3 secs, Stock 911 Turbo 2005 = 4.2 secs, a normal Carrera S does 0-100 in 4.8.....so not that quick at all and it won't get all porsches especially the GT3 which does 3.9 secs 0-100.
Still it sounds like a weapon, although most decent big bikes will kick its ass in a straight line and make you look cooler.
Sounds like he was talking smack....as all car drivers do. When you race someone on the road you never know if they are getting all they can out of their car.....they could be useless, as they invariably are-thats why they drive cars :)

So i am on tour in the South Island (reverse say for Mainlanders) ...in the middle of nowhere cruising down a long straight at a (illegal) 141 kmh..get stopped, loose my licence ?..like i am going to leave my bike on the side of the road (broken law or not)..i would ride it to the nearest town etc risking a true criminal offence of evading the law... and then what, have my bike freighted back home.......If the decision is up to the person pulling you up,which is an unknown... hear siren, look at speedo.. !@#$... make decision to stop or keep going until somewhere safe for the bike is reached..seems a little drastic ???...... The RS4 and the S4 has always been turbo'd except like you say, the last 2 models (2005 and 2006) are both V8's. The RS4 was faster than the RS6 untill they dropped the V8 in it (go figure). If i had my way they'd have a 2.6lt PP rotary in there.
The RS4 does 4.2 seconds(ish) 0-100k standard, your mates should be pulling a sub 4 second EZ AS, but yes it does understeer quite heavily. You can't say all 4wd's understeer as it depends on the front/rear ratio your running. Which is one reason people may have a preference between WRX's and EVO's. Although the mild understeer can be felt a simple ease off the accelrator and the car will correct itself immediately.
I went for a drive in a standard S4 (2.8l V6 Twin Turbo) and we got it sideways at around 130-140k in a Central City Auckland 50k zone. While I was needing a change of underware thd driver just laughed it off. The car tends to "drive itself" and isn't what I'd call "loose". Pretty boring Nana look to it as well.
If he was on a bike, why would he have stopped?

You can say 4wds understeer. All current straight from the factory models understeer heaps. S4's, Evo's, WRX's. Beauty is though, give them the Scandinavian flick before entering a corner and you can drift the buggers right through.....not necessarily the quickest way but definately the coolest :)

Buellbabe, it sounds like your mate got the straight law, and nothing else, from what you tell us...
I've lost the licence once for exceeding the limit by 50km/h, and the second time doing a similar thing got to keep it 'cos the cop was a decent dude and decided that it would make more sense to just do me for 149km/h (save time in court, not leave me stranded in the middle of nowhere at 9pm on a Sunday night, etc.).
Lessons learnt:
In case 1: faster bikes can save you money in some cases.
In case 2: always check your mirrors after blasting from an on-ramp to the totally empty motorway.

A local Taranaki businessman had his late model Mercedes impounded in the King Country under the boy racer legislation, for the heinous crime of "sustained loss of traction".
He was highly put out as he is the head of the local Chamber of Commerce or some such and is I guess in his fifties. I don't favour one law for the rich and one for the poor (I will acknowledge that it exists but I don't like it) but there is no way this guy would be identified by most people as a "boy racer" .

Unless the new legislation has come into play you won't lose your licence for 40 over only 50 over.
And you CAN afford the fine, you can just pay it off over time, thats what I always do.
Somone who works their butt off JUST to support his wife and kids isn't going to have a flash car like a bloody expensive euro shitter RS6 and you say it's the factory race car version, this gives me the idea of big dollars, the person who works there arse off to support the wife and kids is going to have a normal garden variety corolla or somthing.

Forget about roadworks. You have to be aware of when you are in a permanent speed zone or a temporary speed zone, like the ones they set up around road works.
Permanent speed zone + 41 kph over posted limit = licence suspension.
Temporary speed zone + 51 kph over posted limit = licence suspension.

Point taken but the Boy racer ammendmant's to the Land Transport Act 1998 doesn't define a boy racer (that would be far too un PC) they just have 3 offences with specific ingredients.
In saying that the guy was lighting up his wheels on a reasonably busy street with lots of pedestrians around.
If he had lost control of the car (a merc v8) and ploughed into people who were on the side walk (which recently nearly happend with a Lamborgini crash on Brighton Road near Parnell) im sure there would be a different stance on it.
Everyone seems to give us the stick, remember we dont make the law, we just enforce it and it doesnt mean we have to like it, though i support what happened with the merc; from what i heard he was being an absolute twat and treated the cop with total disrespect and contempt even though he created the situation.
Respect goes both ways.
Very True Dynamytus50, sometimes we need to be reminded of this fact.

Pretty strong statements :gob: For the record ... I think S4`s arent even in the same league as a ferrari ...
I think youre right- if he was on a bike or a car, not resembling a pensioners shopping cart, he might have had the book thrown at him...

I can see how comparisons should be drawn between a stripped out 1980s quasi-racer with carbon fibre doors and string for door handles with a late-1990s model family sedan with big horsepower... NOT! What planet are you people on?
If we want to wade into the "what car" debate my money is on the Merc E55. More class and attitude than any Audi, better daily driver than an M5. Granted the Beemer is a quicker car, but quite frankly it's only quicker at speeds you shouldn't be doing on any public road anyway. And the E55 comes as a wagon, which means my missus could fit the dog in, so I'd be allowed to by one... shame I've got a house to pay for first. Oh well, perhaps in 22 years...
Why the hell am I talking cars on a bike site?

But anyways, I thought he was lucky not to have it impounded...
I was just curious to hear if anyone else has had a similar exprience... or knows of anyone who has lost their licence/ had their bike/car taken off them...
:Punk:
There is no automatic impounding of the vehicle. This will only happen if you attempt to ride away after the offence notice has been served. More charges more costs. Someones going to get killed either doing a runner or by a hit 'n' run.

This statement is bullshit. You're employed to look out for public safety, bring about justice, etc. The laws are your tools to do those such things.

Whilst eschewing the perjorative, this statement is actually correct. The primary function of the police is not to enforce laws , to give out tickets, or even to catch criminals. It is to maintain the Queens Peace, and the Rule of Law (which is not the same thing as "laws"). In practice of course, the most effective way to do this is usually to enforce the law. There is however nothing in law or in his oath that requires any constable to enforce any law (other than the requirement to obey the orders of his superior officer).
This is sometimes pertinent in NZ, more so in England and Scotland, where many quaint and long obsolete laws still remain on the statute books. The police do not enforce them of couse. It happens in NZ too - how often do the police chose to enforce laws regarding sedition, blasphemy, or obscene language in a public place ? Or the law reguiring traffic to keep left and not impede other road users!
So it is not a valid argument to argue that the police "only enforce the laws, not make them"
