Im curious to know about others thoughts when seeing a cruiser, tourer or a sportsbike. For example when I see a Honda Shadow, I think it is a Harley unless I can be bothered to check the rego label.
I know its damn biased of me but I can tell most different types of sportsbikes from their shape, headlight style or rear end (no smart arsed comments). I suppose maybe Im just a sports bike nut. Tourers I can kind of tell apart, but Im never 100% accurate, but put me in a room full of cruisers and I get all confused, find a corner and lay down to suck my thumb.
So tell me, do those that have cruisers and tourers have the same thought patterns? I know someone who owns/works a/works in a bike shop will be able to distinguish most bikes by site, but what about you average citizen? Can you tell a certain type of bike apart or do all sports bikes look the same?
Im curious to find out if Im the only weirdo on here...... :killingme

i can tell sports and tourers on the spot, crusiers are a bit harder though. The reason for this is i have never been even remotly interested in crusiers.
just an observation of my behaviour, not intended as a bold "sprots bikes rule and crusiers are puss" statement!!

lol, my missus thinks I'm weird cause I like to name the bikes coming towards me when I'm driving the cage. I'm normally spot on but cruiser's stump me every time. Probably cause like froggy I'm not really into them....
So I guess I'm a weirdo too.....;)

Thats what I mean, if you are not particularly interested in a type of bike. Do you go out of your way to learn about them?

I find the hardest to tell apart, at a distance, is a black cruiser. Could be almost any brand.

I was talking to a former president of the local biker "club" recently and I mentioned Harley riders in connection with waving and suggested the Harley riders possibly only wave to other Harley riders.
He grinned and said he couldn't tell which bikes were Harleys any more.
I was pleased he said that because it's probably some time now since I could tell one cruiser from another.

I couldn't tell one sportsbike from another, and have no interest in learning.Cruisers I can tell apart reasonably well, mainly because they make the engine as a styling point...I can pick out differences in engine design better than I can tell fairing designs apart, just the mechanical side of me I suppose.I can pick Sportsters and Big Blocks apart from a long way away too.Dirt bikes are easy, they are all colour coded.

I cant tell sportbikes apart (except for Ducatis for some reason) or most cruisers. Or Japanese cars.
cars should have more tail fins... I can tell the difference between most '50s american cars just from the rear view... or rear 3/4 view.
Its all completely about what interest you. If you are interested you'll know the subtle differences between the Hyosung and the Lifang or Quingjou

As was said, it all depends where your own interests lie. I can pick most cruiser bikes, but a sprotsbike is a sprotsbike - end of story.

I get exactly the same thing, am beginning to be able to tell sports bikes and a lot of 250's from sight but bigger bikes and cruisers/tourers leave me stumped. Guess it's because I'm not really into them. I also get it with cars, I like European sports cars (should I be making that admission?) and can now tell most of them from as little as the front left panel & a bit of the headlight. Same with most Jap cars. But muscle cars and classics etc. leave me completely stumped

They're built in the United States?
I can't tell most bikes apart! Hehe. But then, I know bugger all about them. I can tell a couple of sportbikes apart, mainly lower capacity ones, but like many others, totally lost when it comes to cruisers. I think that would still be nice to be able to identify three quarters of them, even if you don't have much interest in them. I can identify pretty well any car that goes past on the road, as long as it's newer than about 1975. Having said that I'm not good with American cars, but having said that, there aren't many down here.
