Allways have had a thing for Busas and it is time for a change.. I want one and it looks like the prices are right on a new one. Can anyone please talk me out of abandoning old faithful (Bandit) for such a beast..

Well that really is a poor attempt to convince him OUT of getting one. Damn they look good. Nadrojs one we followed last week was nice. Sounded awesome and looked sexy. (The bike dude, settle).
After following him for 80k or so I decided to put it on my list of bikes I am far to irresponsible to own.

My other half (BusaJim) is onto his second one. (wrote first one off on diesel spill last year and went straight out and got another) He wouldn't have anything else.
We use it for touring all over the country 2 up (with tents, sleeping bags etc all stashed in soft luggage) It is a very comfortable tourer, especially for the pillion.
Then in the weekends on with the racing hump and off to do track days, flying quarters etc.
Then Mon-Frid he uses it to commute to work.
Perfect all rounder.
My 2 cents.

I will:
Cost more to buy
Cost more to run
Increase the chance of losing your licence
Increase the chance of losing your life
Give you a sore back
Give you sore wrists
Give you a huge adrenalin rush
Put a huge smile on your face
Oops - bugger!

I say go for it. If you like it, why not. Just one thing to think about. I also love the busas and wanted to buy one this year, but the problem I found with the big bikes is that they don’t go as well as the sports around tight twisties…long straight roads and big sweepers, no problems, like a dream. So I have decided to go for a new sportsbike instead, purely because I do the tight twisty thing more often than long straight touring..
You will find it quite different to the bandit, but sure you will love the power. And the price of the new ones are really good..saw a 06 in masterton a wile back for under $20k..Enjoy the new busa!!!

Summed up completely.
Take one for a test ride and then TRY TO convince yourself NOT to buy one - HEHEHEHE good luck ;)

I must say the colours look so much better these days than that original brown one that came out accentuating what at the time was quite odd styling.
Just buy the thing and enjoy.

Nah buy a ZX12R you know they are a more refined superior machine and also look heeps better
Blackbird
1st February 2006, 16:55
Although I love my bird to bits, the 'busa is a superb machine. One of my riding partners has one and he's done over 70000km with almost complete reliability. Cracked alloy sub frame early on - not an issue now and some plating on the forks lifting but nothing else. His biggest expense is rear tyre life averaging about 3500 km.
Oh yes, it will piss all over the Blackbird but beauty is still in the eye of the beholder:2thumbsup
PS Have a look at this: http://www.hayabusa.org/. There are others too.

Actually I am the extra braking force - the one that hits on the back with closed fists as you drag off boys racers, going 210 km/hr, uphill, with all the touring gear loaded.
Attached pic, me and the Busa - West Coast, December trip.

terbang's - 06 there is nothing new apart from a pearl white model limited edition.
The talk is there will be a major update in 2007 for the busa since its had a long life, and the compition as finally really caught up(aka zzr1400 zx14)
The are pretty much the same bike as they were when released in 1999 or was it 2000 somethign like that, little tweaks along the time but nothing major
Still awsome kit, and good bang for your buck

Number one reason not to buy a Busa!!! - - too many chicks ride 'em, what does that say!!! :stoogie:
Buy a TLR, takes muscle to ride one - especially in tight twisties. :apumpin:

Have to admit I have my eye on one also, especially after seeing Qkchks last weekend, I WANT ONE! The prices at the moment are pretty darn good, but I have to wait at least till the end of the year to consider the move. Meanwhile the TLs is doing just fine, but the busa, OMG, definately adult size:shit:

How's Hayabusa's brake if you abuse the bike in the twisties? I heard that brake is not really enough for it's weight.

Mmmmm. Not sure, but it could just be that Suzuki will replace the 'Busa in the near future as it's getting on now and with Kwaka's new ZX14 coming out they may want to up the ante, so to speak. Heard that even the GSX-R 750 can hit 300k on the right track, now. Having said that, sub 20k is a good price and they are still a blast. And yes the brakes were the weak point, but only if you were really caning it and as said a new set of pads works well.

Paper work bloody paperwork while I am itching to get out and ride this thing. Last minute advice and handshakes and Im off..Into Auckland peak hour traffic and onto the Southern motorway on friday before Waitangi weekend..Oh Groan what a mess and I cant ride this thing very well and lanesplitting becomes absolute sheer terror..! First impression is at the low speeds its tough on the arms and wrists and by market road I'm done and my legs are getting blasted by hot air (good for winter). Fuck no brakes jees my 400 stops better, mate I just dusted 20 grand and nearly plastered it all over the back of a car..! Back on the peninsula in more familiar territory and speed above 80Ks and its feeling a lot better the brakes have settled and are just fine and after ol Bandit this thing goes where you point it and doesn't feel like a big bike at all. It soaks up the rough stuff, feels very "planted" in corners and there is a definate impression that there is 1300cc under there somewhere. I'm gonna like this bike a lot in fact Im stoked by it. I can now Identify with John last weekend around Coro on his new bandit feeling a bit disconnected on the new bike. Mum and kids are out there now Ooohing and Aaahing over the styling and eldest daughter has had a ride (on the back) and is grinning from ear to ear. After 8 years on me ol bandit I'm certainly gonna find it different..Smiles all round in our rumah tonight.
See ya out and about..
