Has anybody got photographs from the 96/97 Battle of the Streets? I am looking for any photographs of Craig Sheriffs' GSX-R 750. Or can you point me to a website?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cemetery Circuit is part of that circuit aye... I think I've got pics of pretty much everything on the track that day. I'll do some digging and get back to ya. Thousands of pics to look through though, my filing system is shit.

Bugger! I've still got all the negatives from when I covered it for Kiwi Rider but gave a big box of photos (all mixed up, from many years) to LB to spread around for donations to Spank Me for running this site.

I have the negatives in bundles with the place and year on them so if you know what bike number he was running at Wanganui, I could get reprints if you're desperate.

Why do you want them? Other than the fact he's a bloody good rider?

Hi Beemer. I have the bike. It is my road bike and I would like to see what colour etc it was raced in. I will see if I can find what number the bike raced as. Just nice to put the history together and have it with the bike. I think I will have it for a long time.:yeah:

Just send me a PM when you find out and I can dig out the negs and see what I have. I just checked and it looks like I started photographing the Cemetery Circuit in 1997, but I may have earlier shots if he raced at Manfeild that year. I shot every race during the day and tried to get shots of every bike, so it's likely I will have what you are looking for.

Thank you Beemer. I will look for the info over the weekend. R1madness has given me the Email addy of the photographer that Zuki NZ used. I have tried to get the pics from him before but he is very busy and it didn't happen. So when I have that bikes number I will send mail. Many thanks for your help. I have wanted to put an album together for this bike since I have owned it and look at that ...nearly 3 years have passed already......

No but I've found a current picture of it. I think that's it in the top left hand corner. Being a Suzuki it was a miracle it managed to finish the race let alone several years racing.

Go on...you have a fantasy to ride and own a Zuki.....you can tell me Finn. I will keep it a secret:psst: Pic to help you find it. Second from left, in case you are unable to pic the Zuki amongst the riff raff....

Ok..Email from Zuki nz today.

(Clip) ... he advised he has always used the number 56... however for one race that year he was made to use 58 as a number....(Clip)

If anyone has pics from any street race over the 96-97 season and they have the GSX-R 750 with the numbers 56 or 58 could I have a copy?
Thanks for all your help people.

I'm still sorting through the huge pile of photos I've got from Beemer (sorry, it's taking me a while as I haven't been home much since I got them....)

I'll have a look and see if I can see any.

Beemer, if you haven't already looked through your negs, hold off till I've looked through the photos.

Please note. No hurry. I feel bad if you are spending too much time doing this. It has taken me 3 years to get back on track looking for the pictures. Yes I am keen to get some but not at the expense of your down time. Many thanks for looking. No hurry...Hope some turn up...
I will try and speak to Craig at Paeroa about this.
Thanks LB and Beemer.:yeah: :yeah:

I've found some pics, there may be more.

What year gixxer am I looking for? It seems I only have 1997 pictures of the Cemetery, did he race there that year?

So far I've only found one gixxer where the pic is any good, but I'm pretty sure its an 1100 and its doing stunts between races. Yellow tank and wheels and a pink tail piece.

I've got a good pic of a number 56 but its a sky blue and I'm pretty sure its a CBR. Probably a 250.

Unfortunately most of the other pics I have are either of the BEARS or of chicks in short skirts. You weren't looking for a number 10? :p

Hi Shadmeister. Thanks for looking but it would be the 96 cemetery circuit and 97 Paeroa. The bike is a 96-97 GSX-R 750 V. Currently in Red Black and silver. I do not know what colours it was raced in. Hope to find out on Sunday. So I think you have the wrong year. But thanks for taking the time to look.
Hmmm short skirts...................................:nono: :eyepoke: ..............:2thumbsup

Really? So just replace the complete engine, then?

No Gav. It is a Zuki and they just keep going and going and going. From all the service records and talking to Craig it is as it was from new. Rekitted the carb and put on a different can and raced. Then took the can off and put the original on and sold it to the road. And it is still going strong. Uses no oil between changes. Race plastics were fitted for racing.

Am I that predictable??

I remember seeing this bike racing back then and it was the horniest sounding one there....honestly it had an exhaust note that nearly made me crack a fat and nearly switched my mate from Kwakas to Suzooks.

Didnt think I would see it again, and didnt know who the rider was but now I do it sorta explains everything.

Had to be Craig Shirriffs tho, stuff legends are made of :D

Great. I ask Craig what he thought of the bike at the time. His answer was, it scarred the shit outa him. But he qualified that by saying he was only 21 at the time. I can vouch for the power over 7k. It is hard to ride up at the higher end cos it is all or none. Touch the gas and hang on. Not so great from 7k and down.

Never say never. Special when a zuki is involved.

We recon he is a great rider and if you saw him ride this year you would agree he is on his game. Yep he dropped the 1000 but he rode the wheels off da 600.

There must be a lot of bikes that have been raced and are now on the road. Anyone else got the history of a bike that started on the track and now a road bike:spudwhat:
