Hi guys, I know there are a couple of threads regarding the above with snippets of information but I thought this would be handy for all the 09'ers here to have it all in one place! I sent an email off to the Auckland City Council requesting the information about bike parking so here tis, pasted from part of the email reply.

Auckland City's Downtown and Civic car parking buildings both have allocated spaces for motorcycle parking. I have spoken with our Parking Services Department who have advised that there are approximately 10 parking spaces in the Downtown building and 30 in the Civic building. These spaces are free to use and you can access the buildings by driving beside the barrier instead of going under and obtaining a parking ticket. Further information regarding these car parking buildings, including their locations, can be found on our website via the following link:
http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/auckland/transport/parking/guide.asp.
There are also various free motorcycle parking spaces throughout the Central Business District. I have listed these for you below:
- Alfred Street (Opposite University Library), 43 spaces
- Anzac Avenue, 3 spaces
- Eden Crescent, 8 spaces
- Elliot Street (Opposite Phillips Fox), 3 spaces
- Emily Place (Corner of Eden Crescent), 8 spaces
- Federal Street (Corner of Wellesley Street West), 10 spaces
- Greys Avenue, 3 spaces
- Lorne Street (Outside Central Library), 17 spaces
- Marmion Street (To be installed), 7 spaces
- Princes Street, 11 spaces
- St Paul Street (Outside AUT), 17 spaces
- Symonds Street (Outside University), 31 spaces
- Teed St, Newmarket (South kerb, near corner of Osbourne Street), 10 spaces

Would you believe that the Uni Tamaki campus had no designated motorcycle parking? I went to see someone, and they tried to make me lift my bike up a huge kerb and park in a space the size of a bicycle....
Got a hold of property services, have secured about 8 spaces in some big area unused within staff parking. Will keep hounding them till the officially designate it. If anyone commutes to Tamaki occasionally, please use it, it will help the cause... go in the South entrance, its near the library on a large orange striped triangle bit in the turnaround space. You should see my beemer there mon tue and fri mornings :)

Update on the Tamaki campus bike parking, the parks were removed when the carpark was re-done last year, but will be reintroduced for next semester. Thanks to the various people who have used the parking I organised, and showed that there are enough of us to get real bike parking. Another plus, you dont need to get a parking permit, so anyone can park there as long as it doesnt get overcrowded.

Thats a huge help. I've always thought twice about coming into town (apart from school) just incase I can't find a proper bike park.

Wilsons in Anzac ave is free for bikes, you get to park right oppiste pay booth, so you bike seems to be safe., Ive used it a few times when I have gone to the law library, left the bike about 4 hours, guy in the booth told me he saw some kids getting too close to bike so he told them to move on.

I have used the library, and Civic, but not Wilsons. My choice would be the Civic, less foot traffic (no one walking past because the bikes are on an island by the exit ramp). I, however, park in the basement of the building I'm in - pure luxury, I say luxury.

Dont forget SKY CITY is also FREE for parking bikes.
Head around to the PRE-PAY booth and park up on the island on the left hand side. Just dont hit the swing-arm barriers going in or out of the carpark.

Anyone know the deal with other Wilson parking - esp. the one on Wakefield. I see several bikes in their not in propoer spaces but in the corners, etc.
Is this OK?
Anyone park there?

A city of over a million people and our parking buildings can spare 40 parking spaces for bikes.......:(

However, I have never seen those 40 full. And there are a number of above ground dedicated praking areas for bikes.
But, just prak on the footpath. Unless you're going to be gone all day. Works for me. Why ride a bike and wander round like a cager looking for somewhere to prak

Yeh, well, thats life.
BTW people, there's a shitload of bike parking in the civic these days because they had to close off part of the top floor (for cars).

Victoria St and Kitchener (2 up from Queen St) has free parking, under cover with plenty of metal to chain yer bike to. Get in early.
The Civic underground is best because a)Its out of sight from passers by and b) its within sight of parking attendants at all times. I think its free too.

Crashe, who told you parking was free at SKYCITY? I park there everyday and I know the parking people let employees do this although I doubt it's a free for all public thing.

Heh... I was somewhat excited to see a tumbleweed rolling down the centre of the freeway in San Francisco.
Didn't see any wildlife though, apart from some squrrrrls.
