ok OK - i have finally capitulated
- given in to the mute, pleading looks from the Offspring, the unsubtle hints from The Beloved and ---- the Stern, Unyielding DISapproval of Mr Hitcher ['nuff said] and have today purchased -- oh lord how can i LIVE with myself?! ... a 'joe-rocket-girls-cleo-woman's-mesh-jacket with zip out waterproof lining [and enough armour padding to make an american quarterback envious.]
it's black ... black is veeeeery slimming; that's just as well in view of the - erm - loooomingly menacing new shillouette [courtesy of all that armour plating in every conceivable impact point - and some that really are a bit obscure whilst, i can't help noticing, areas that would BENEFIT from a little extra padding are totally TOTALLY ignored ........*sigh*]
OK you lot - glad that everyone is now happy ........ inaugeral ride tomorrow:woohoo:
all that is left:shifty:
is for me to decide which SHORTS to wear it with :shake:]

I think Mstriumph, in the interests of proper safety, you should consider some "Draggin" shorts. After all, we know that those who aren't wearing ALL the proper gear are the scurge of our (and your) nation.

With all due respect Mr WT, Draggin shorts are not suitable attire. While they may have kevlar lining to protect you from road rash, they do not have any CE armour in the hip area to protect you from the impact. Much better to get cordura/leather pants and chop them off above the knee pads.

ok - the test ride
did 490Kms sunday, varying speeds, varying traffic conditions [eg some open road, some stop/start thru the city] through the hills and down the west coast [to lake clifton for the geography buffs amongst us]
- left at 7am, home at around 5pm, temperatures ranging from around 15 to 32 degrees and low humidity.
so the jacket got as thorough a workout as i could give it [without actually testing out its armour against tarmac - some things i am NOT prepared to do in the interests of science! :nya: ]
the opinion
after the first few kms the armour ceased to feel 'strange' and the waterproof zipin liner kept me cosy in the relative cool of the morning... as the day grew warmer, i dispensed with the liner and was VERY pleasantly suprised at just how cool the airflow through the mesh kept me - and the stops in traffic in the city weren't too horrid either.
sooooooo - not QUITE as good as wearing just a tshirt but definately on the 'very good' side of 'ok'.... and yes, i'll wear it again.
i started out this thread in slightly mocking vein ... but provided [and, as above, i didn't actually 'road' test it lol] the armour performs adequately if i bin, then i am impressed.
impressed enough to post the website here http://www.joerocket.com/jrf/home.cfm and say its worth a look anyway
:sunny: [yes, they do on-line sales]
.......and - did i mention? :corn: jackets are available in a range of trendy colours
... which, of course, excludes beige ...

I am not sure why I have been pre-emptively recorded as disapproving of such a purpose. I have bought two mesh jackets in recent times. I wore the first for half a day, and enjoyed it very much, prior to giving it a bit of abrasive therapy along State Highway 1. The armour was well placed and I was unmarked (but not unbroken). I have replaced it with another -- identical -- Shift. As yet unworn, but I live in constant hope. No waterproof lining but.

oh DRAT - my convoluted sentence-structure [post 1, para.1] seems to have led you astray, mr hitcher :o i DID get a bit carried away there ...
i actually MEANT to portray you as disapproving of those NOT enmesh-jacketing ...
:slap: sorry
[and i certainly hope you are shortly recovered enuff to indulge your addiction once again :ride: ]

I second that, I want to see how imposing you look in your armoured gear. You can crop so we can only see from the neck down if you don't want your visage stuck all over the interweb thingy.
