View Full Version : How much bad stuff can you get into with this?

Hi everyone,

I have a mate, who shall remain nameless, who has a GSXR "250". Well it used to be a 250, until at some stage in its life it had an engine transplant to a 4cyc 400.
However, no one ever told the good people at the LTSA, and it is still registered as a 250, and still looks like a 250 (can you see where this is heading?). My mate has his restricted.
My question, is how much trouble can you get into driving it around, not being certified? Also, the engine displacement stamps on the case convinently 'disapperared', and apparently is has gone through a couple of WOF's no problem.

Cheers,

Stefan

At first glance it'll be all sweet... if worst comes to worst and he munts it into a Benz or something then his insurance will be invalid and some large bills will be dropping on his doormat.

If you're gonna take risks like that then you gotta be prepared for if it all goes sour.

Just my 2c.

Agree with the above. Doubt if it's worth insuring as they will be very unlikely to pay out

But how many owners has it had? Who's to know who did this modification. Also a 400 and 250 engine look real similar from the outside if the markings are removed it would be hard to tell them apart. Whats the chance an insurance company actually pulled the engine apart (or at least compression tested it) to check its capacity.

I doubt the insurance company would pull the engine apart and measure the bores.

If the engines look exactly the same from the outside it's sweet

Maybe stamp 250 into it?

I'm sure theres a few people on here who don't have insurance anyway.

Yeah I never thought of insurance, I will ask this person next time I see him what he has told the insurance company (chances are they wouldn't ever know any difference).
Yep it goes like stink, but I think Ill keep the 150 for a wee while longer yet. Very sneaky indeed.

Cheers
