Any of the PC geeks here know how to get my Award BIOS updated ??
I did the usual but award/phoenix direct me to www.esupport.com who take my details and then say they'll contact me in 24 hours ?? WTF ???
I suppose they'll call asking for my credit card details before I can download the update. This doesn't sound right so can anyone help me. I need the update so the BIOS can see all of the 160Gb hard drive I just put in. Currently it only sees 136Gb which I gather is a common enough problem with older BIOS versions.
Here are the bios details if it helps:
BIOS Type:Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
BIOS Date:08/25/00
BIOS ID:08/25/2000-i815-ITE8712-6A69RG0BC-00
OEM Sign-on:Intel 815 AGPSet BIOS for 6OXM7E F3
Super I/O:ITE 8712F rev 3 found at port 2Eh
Chipset:Intel 1130 rev 2
OS:Microsoft Windows XP Version: 5.1.2600
CPU: PIII-933mhz
Memory:256Mb
Thanks.

Yup, dead easy, go to the web site of your motherboard (having made a note of exactly which board you have, and the BIOS version, which is displayed at the POST Boot-up screen) manufacturer, go to the support pages and look for the link that tells you how to update the BIOS, all will be revealed!
If you need any more help, my consultancy rates start at $150 p/hour :2thumbsup

Thanks Pete, I'd looked at the Intel site before without any luck. I had another look and it appears I need the exact board model ID.

That looks like a Gigabyte board.
You should be able to get it from here.

Bad things can happen if you accidentally load the bios for a different model.
Ask my bro...

Agreed. Only update if you're really sure you need it.

Yer I need it for the 48-bit LBA update. Otherwise large drives are pointless for me. I know what can happen if you load the wrong bios so I'll be very careful. If I don't post for another couple of weeks you can guess what happened ;)

Looks like this is what you need from that bios string:

10 points Mr Melon, I actually had just booted off the new BIOS and was going to update this thread when I read your post. I realised when I got home tonight it's a gigabyte M/board with the intel chipset and not an Intel M/board. Upgraded from v3 bios to v8beta which detected the 160Gb drive right away !!
Now I just have to patch XP :eek5:
Thanks all for your help.
