Honestly what do honda think they're doing.....they must be mad discontinuing the XR-R range completely, yes thats right no more XR650R for `07. and and lets just say Honda's being very slow to replace the much loved XR250-400R's and those CRF-X's don't count in my book.Yep a big:motu: and :argh: to honda

XR's are crap bikes anyway...heavy pieces of shit...with crap gutless motors and bad handling... when they first came out they were a good bike...but they didn't change squat over the years...they only sold on the name they once had...

BULLSHIT! My XR200 would do wheelies in 3rd gear. Dad's 250 would do wheelies in 5th gear!

And yeah they did change! Twin carb-single carb, twin shock-single shock etc etc.

been able to do wheelies is relitive to many many variables...not just power...the latest xr250 only makes something like 24hp...which is pretty piss poor...I hav a close friend who has a 2001 xr250...and its a pig of a thing and he freely admitts it...and I hav owned them too....and a xr200...I believe the xr200 is acctually a better bike than the 250...better handling at any rate and weights about a ton less...

and besides this...hows the VT going?

Compare the XR to the DRZ & KLX and it becomes apparent that the XR has seen better days. Time to change and keep up with the compition eh. I'm going to move on also when it comes to trail biking and I feel that its just a matter of time until i purchase a new road legal KLX400:2thumbsup
i like the DRZ but it looks a tad queer , must be a suzuki thing:bleh:

I have a love\hate relationship with my XR600R - it's the second slowest bike I've ever owned, but it has given me two of my worst accidents on the road (wasn't sure if I could ever run again after one incident). On the other hand, the engine's amazingly reliable and has loads of "character".

Sadly, I'll be putting it up for sale soon as I move towards buying a house..:violin:

XR range was a great range no doubt about it. Farmers bike to be sure, sturdy reliable and enough guts to get you where you want to go and enuf to have fun with. Id agree with the 200 being better of the 2. But heck the CRF230 has taken over the farm duties being as seems they have just made an in between bike that has terrible suspension heavy as hell and poor brakes (everything the modern XRs are today). So Honda still supply a half decent bike that doesn't require a shit load of maintenance of the likes of the screaming 4stroke race breed machines.:eyepoke:

Or do you want to put the other one into it also? I'm quite keen to see if I can get a road legal CRF450, will find out at some stage and get back to you all on that one. . No there is not a DRZ650, but a DR650SE, see ----------------------->http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/DR650SEK6/Default.aspx for info. There is a KLX650 though and there is one on trade me that I'd love to get my hands on, see ----------------->http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.asp?id=47449527
One suggestion crazyxr250riderm, its cool to be passionate about a brand of bike, but not to the extent of rubbishing all others. I know from experience as thats exactly how I started off here at kiwibiker. I have actually found a soooki that I like the look of and I am told I can test pilot that and the kawasaki. However my first choice still is the road legal CRF450, provided they do one. Either way the bike below is awesome IMO.:second:

Ah, I remember months of fun and joy thrashing about paddocks on my XR80 until my brother decided he would pull it apart and snapped the clutch plate in the process.

Good bikes, but A LOT out dated with what is being produced these days.

Motu
9th February 2006, 06:42
There is outdated....and there is also fit for purpose.Bikes like the DT175 and ER185 are still produced today, they are decades more outdated than an XR,but they fill a market segment enough to keep up the demand.

XRs are great bikes.

but people are demanding faster, better, coolser machinery these days. If XRs were selling sooo good they wouldnt have taken them off the line.

but as before we want better.

As for HP im sorry but there would be noooo way a XR , even unrestricted, would be only 5hp off..... i would go for more what Cowpoos said.

and a comparison inbetween a stock CFR250 and modded XR 250 is not a very good comparison....... Is it??............No

I think I've managed an indicated 150 on the XR600. I owned a KLX650 prior to that that had a bit more grunt (160). The other bikes have been road bikes, the slowest being a GN125. What I was trying to imply was that the XR600 can be a lively beast even if it ain't fast (compared to a road bike that is).

oh yeah... The XR400 was the third best selling dirt bike in 2004 so the XR's were making honda a lot of money and have you read how many safaris and bajas the XR650R has won?

The biggest selling bike in OZ last year was the CRF230.

The XR's are/were brilliant enduro bikes.
Basically the 4st equilivent of the KDX200.

Went well, still goes well but the modern bikes run rings around them unless you're a very good rider.

The CRF230 is just an overbored XR200 with new plastics and goes very well in the trails (and jumps).

Personally I think the XR's have been going downhill since they lost one of the shocks off the back.

I own a 2000 model XR650R, after having also owned an XR400 and XR600. There is certainly nothing outdated about the XR650R considering it has an alloy frame and watercooled engine. Honda seem to be abandoning the dual purpose trail bike market in favour of high revving and high maintenance offroad only bikes (with very narrow seats!) i.e the CRF450X. Also note that Honda Japan still sell a supermotard version of the XR400 with electric start. And Honda Europe sell the FMX650 supermotard. Both of these could easily be turned into excellent trail bikes with suspension and wheels Honda already have in their parts bin.
