i know a couple who ride...myself on the gn250, mickey who rides a steed, sheriff who rides a shadow [i think! or something similar] also met a young girl today who rides what im guessing is some form of honda, more a race style bike than a cruiser, and also saw one woman the other day on a sports bike. even seen one or two on harleys....not sportys either.
the girl i met today belongs to wima, so im hoping to catch up with her again to get more info.

They're a lot of fun to ride, really comfortable for long rides, corner really well and they look good. And of course there's that lovely V-twin sound.

Why the SV650S?
Versatile bike. I needed something for the daily commute, weekend rides, touring and something I could throw around the race track. The SV does it all beautifully - and the added bonus is that being a relative newbie with an occasional lack of throttle control - i.e. it sometimes gets stuck on full - I'd like to think I'm less likely to get into trouble on the 650.

Learned to ride on a Suzuki RG150 and had that for four years in total before trading up to a BMW F650CS. The RG was brilliant, and I had so much confidence on it, which is why I didn't rush out to buy anything bigger.
The CS was a great bike but I never quite got to grips with the width of it and could only just get the balls of my feet down. I didn't like the upright riding position either, and it was costing quite a bit in insurance every year so I looked around for something else.
The Goose is a great bike, heaps of fun, light, narrow and low. It is cool looking, has enough power for me (I'm not Aaron Slight!) and is cheap to run and insure.
It may not be the bike I'll have forever, but for now it's perfect. The SV never grabbed me, and I find them too tall anyway. When you are 5'1" you don't have a lot of options if you aren't into cruisers!

Yeah right. Saw you bounce off one traffic island and then play chicken with a SS Comodore :dodge: . I was only behind you for a short while so who knows what other trouble you didn't get into. All this in one day.

Mrs Pickle rides a ZX636 and a KLR250, friends wives ride bikes like ZX7, ZX6 & KLX250, CBR600, DT230, DT175, CBR900RR, Aprilla Caponord, VTR1000, KLR650 & KLX250, NC30 (VFR400), KFX250, Harley of some description, SV1000, ZRX1100, GSX750, BMW F650.
There are heaps of girls out there riding all sorts of bikes, are into rallies, trackdays, touring etc and some ride them better than a lot of blokes I know.
Most Excellent.

I lived to tell the tale, hence my theory that I am less likely to get into major trouble on the 650!

Females should have to pass a tougher test to get their bike licences, as too many chicks would get their licences handed to them on a plate. Especially the babes. Mind you, 99% of biker chicks are non - babes and have hairy arms. Maybe it's not a problem.

But not completely off topic, bike shop was busy so I took the beast to a testing station yesterday for its warrant. Well there were cars lined up for Africa and I thought 'oh bugger'. Not to worry, couple of guys came rushing over and waved me over to the truck side AHEAD of a waiting truck and proceeded to drool all over the bike... turned out I had read my sticker wrong and it expired on the 23rd not the 3rd. So I now have a new warrant with the extra 3 weeks tagged on and the whole saga took all of 10-15 mins!

Yes, it's all true. I gave sexual favours to obtain my license. The only practical and theoretical tests I was required to complete were related to testing my ability to understand the philosophical and anthroposophical differences between the male and female forms - in particular the ability to discern their sexual persuasion at a glance.
I now have my motorcycle license, but have no idea how to ride a bike. Can someone help me please?

Bollox... to all the above... although the ability to discern persuasion (inclusive of non stereotypical "leanings") has got to be a handy thing here in Auckland.
"Walks like a girl"
"Looks like a girl"

The SV's are a great transition bike from a 250cc, forgiving on the throttle but can keep up with your mates, and will give you heaps of confidence cornering. From a 5'6 female point of view, they are also light and easy to manouever. Only downside is that they vibrate in all the non exciting places and can be top heavy if you are shortish like me.
I think more women are riding because there are more motorcyclists starting out or returning to riding, especially those hitting 30yrs and above. I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage of women was about the same. I've met plenty of women here in Aus who have been riding since they were teens in the 70's. Great bunch, very welcoming to anyone who loves bikes, highly skilled riders and not half so much "mine's bigger than yours" that the guys sometimes succomb to. (Quote that line and insert smartarse comment here. . . ) Quite a big Dykes on Bikes component here, and they can be some of the nastiest aggressive cows you can come across. Very catty and bitchy. That surprised me.

Yep. The scariest rides I have been on as a group was with the NZ
bunch of DOBS. Geez I had a preconception that it would be guy riders that would have
excessive testosterone driven dangerous riding....but I was wrong :shit:
Mind you to be fair it was only a couple of the riders that kinda ruined it - there were
some girls that were really sensible too....but the rides were still real fast n furious for my

Oooh yeah - the Duc's a beauty eh! I had an awesome time 'getting to know' my bike a bit more and attempting to suss out it's top speed.;) Me and Flame (on the Duc) were doing a bit of "wheelie practice" (note very purposefully bolded quotation marks) and I think the local farmers were wondering what we were up to hooning around the corners and bunnyhopping down the straights!
Come said hi next time - I'm real bad with recognising people so it's always good to see who the KB locals are.
