Similar performance and weight to the Blackbird. I've been very happy with Avon Azaro AV45/46 ST as a balance between grip and longevity. Get about 8000 km out of a set on normal riding. (They have a 6.7mm tread depth which accounts for the decent life). You'll need the "B" specification load rating as they have strengthened construction for the heavier, faster bikes. In fact, I'm having another set fitted today at Boyd Honda in Hamilton. They feel a bit odd at walking pace when they're new due to tread-pick up but it isn't an issue.

Softer compound tyres include Avon Vipers and Michelin Pilot Powers but you'd be expecting a life of probably less than 4000 km.

All depends on how you ride your ZZR and how often you want to change your tyres:scooter:

Michelin Pilot Roads Awesome tyres, great in the wet. Corner great in the dry and last for ages.

Metzler Z6. Do some research.

I'll second the Z6's. 10,000 km from a rear, mixed communting, 4000 k's touring and playing in the twisty's. They slipped twice on wet tar snakes, but not enough to cause any puckering of orifices.

Though I recommended the Michelin Pilot Roads, I couldn't get any for the bike this time around so are also now running Metzeler Roadtec Z6's.
They handle and perform the same as the Pilot Roads but I can't comment on tyre life yet. I just know I got a better than normal run out of my Pilot Roads so will be keen to see what my Z6's do. No complaints so far.

I'm real happy with the Z6's I have on, great tyres and have no interest in trying anything else.

I got 7500km out if the first Z6 rear (cut short by a puncture but was due for replacement before the next trip out of town anyway) and will get about the same on the current (including one day at Levels Raceway).

The front will last two rears.

Got 10k+ out of the Avon 45/46STs on my old ZZR11, sold it and the guy rode them out to 15k (They must have been shiny and ropy by then though !)... They were pretty sticky on the edges too.

I had Metzler ME1s or Mez1s at one stage, rear went square at about 4k :( Not cheap either.

Sedge.

Had some M1's before the Z6's - great grip but noisier, had a rougher feel to them that the Z6, and man did they wear out fast

I feel so much better about my square rear Metzeler M1 Sportec from reading this thread. I thought it was my riding, It was almost like I woke up one morning to find all the rubber in the centre of my tyre gone!!!. Will opt for the Z6 by the sounds of things. The M1 is nice on the Takas though, STICKY

Hey Maxi, yes i'm pretty happy with the Z6's so far have got 3000km out of them and admit to riding a bit like a slowy, and they're still got heaps of tread left (centre as well!)

I've just changed to Z6's after having some sportmax's which wore out in about 3500km, which I was not happy about. I'm expected 10k+ from the Z6.
