After the ride up 16 today, I thought I'd head into town and do some tyre kicking. So I rolled into AMPS and sitting on the plinth in the window is a Red Buell XB12SS. Yummy. It's got red mags as well, and if there is such a thing as sex on wheels, this is it :yeah:

I highly recommend going in and admiring it, but hands off!! It's mine I tells ya!!

Now if only I can convince the wife :slap:

It's about the same as a fireblade on the firebolt. Sports bike 'standard'.

XB12X is one of the best bikes available for tall folks.

Lightning TT not too bad. Bit of knee ache.

Hey Dave

all are poor or even non-existent except for the 12X which co-pilot rates in the highest category.

There is an SS model now and AMPS did have one on display.

My last bike before the 1098 was a buell xb12s. Great bike and wish i had kept it. They have a short wheelbase but i didnt find it cramped at all. Im 5ft10.
Would happily buy another one but next time it would be the R model.
They sound good when wound with the race kit on, much better than the standard Harley noise.

You're a fuckin dwarf and would probably be comfortable on a pocket bike!

What? A dwarf? Yeah, I work with one. It's really funny making him angry and watching him try to fight while you hold him at arms length.

A quick trip to Buells website and.... pic attached

OK I know I ride a bike reviled as an ugly pig, but I like a curvy bike.

Anyone else think the Buell is actually pretty hidious? :puke:

And the mirrors look like they are off a little girl's pink tricycle.

I love my X1 BUELL more than anything, would'nt trade it for nothing.........sheer fun and excitement to match.......not for the faint hearted or those that dont like to get it up frequently.

Don't knock it until your've tried it I say. ( No matter what the bike ).

Then all you should do is offer positive criticism or personal experience, that way you won't offend the ones who invest and enjoy THEIR ride.

Sorry - not trolling and did not mean to knock the bike for the sake of it, but I don't need to try a bike to comment on its looks (maybe the vomit smiley was a bit much, but hey, I just found it in the extra smileys :dodge: ). I know mechanically and dynamically these are superb bikes. Just questioning the aesthetic - a very extreme industrial post-deco retro-futuristic edge-based look; very distinctive. Very 'in' in the US, esp. in the Ford design stables, and for German design as in the new BMWs. Being distinctive is in itself important to many people. I quite like a naked brutal stripped-down sport-bike look, which is not beautiful, and an elegant contained design, which is. But the Buell in question looks too designed around a concept for me - not based on either form or function.
Just wondering what people think of this direction of design.

And the crack about the mirrors is that althought the rest of the design of the bike is very much 'of a piece' (which although I do not personally find attactive is a very well worked design statement) the mirrors are totally out of place, in terms of shape, position and mount. From a design point of view.

And if anyone is offering me a Buell in exchange for my 20yr old POC then I'm very open to offers.

Does any one have a buell they could take a lovely lady for a ride on the back of?

Have to agree, there. I don't mind the Germanic industrial look, but the Buell really doesn't do it for me visually. Looks like some design student's fantasy, or perhaps one of those Chinese plastic children's toys to push around on the floor. However it does seem like it would be a hell of an exciting bike to ride, and that's the important bit :D

Looks like some design student's fantasy,

It's actually a design master's fantasy. Some of the patents are outstanding.
It all works and it all has a reason - there are no other std motorcycles that corner like them. And I love the XB's looks.

Sweet as dude, I wasn't making a dig at yo or anyone in particular but just got frustrated at all the negative comments I'm finding on this site at the moment. I actually agree to some of your points and the mirrors were the first thing I replaced.
All good mate

Was going to ask you to stick a pic up of your ride, but checked your profile. Bike actually looks pretty brutal from the side, esp. and your new mirrors lowers the profile of the bike.
Reminds me most I suppose of my bikes mother, the original Suzuki Katana in some ways, although without the crazy popup.
Cheers for the reply.

NOTE TO ALL NOOBIES:...

rule one: All riders MUST slag off ALL bikes, that he/she does not own!!!
rule 2:... if one cannot slag off... SHUT UP!

I made a fatal mistake today and rode an XB12X - the other posts about having a sore face from smiling were true.
Sure the rear brake is a bit wooden, it's a bit more of a pain in traffic than a japper - but I WANT ONE; never had so much fun in 20 minutes (except that time in 92 with two ladies)

'her indoors' even said, if I like the Buell that much, "ditch the current ride and BUY ONE":scooter: .
