Hi all,

Narrowed my new bike choice down a bit more... Can some kind GSXR 1000 owner/s pls give me an idea of the real world tank range ?

IE commuting... mostly m/way little bit of stop start and also open road touring.

Thanks for that.

Sedge.

I got 200km today before my light came on:wari:

I was pretty happy with that:niceone:

Got a K3 and I've had as much as 230K's to reserve light just cruising. On the other hand, seen it come on at just 160k's when thrashing it.

For info: it's an 18L tank and the light comes on with 4.2L left. So with a guesstimate, you should see about 280k's in cruise mode before you're pushing the fucker.

Around town mostly, couple of trips playing up the local hill got me 185km before the light came on with the last tankfull.

on saterday however 190 saw the light on......
pretty safe up to 240-250km unless your giving it big handfulls of throttle
cheers, Allan.

What ? 138k ? Ummm, from the above I expect this pretty unusual ? Was there a hole in the tank ?

haha.. I bet the "hole in the tank" ïs more likely his very heavy right wrist..

Get that with the Tiller.. its real thirsty if ya flog her!

But in saying that.. the Tiller has a 17L tank.. and I normally get 230K's outta her.. so ya should easily get the 240-60k before its bone dry... riding without a heavy wrist that is of course. =)

i get on average about 190 - 200km. but as what has been said before, i have once streatched as far as 230km but then did a 160km tank on the track.

prob get another 30 - 40km on res, but i dont like walking so i will never know

fuck I gotta get a life answering this. Is this a BMW thread or what! Got 300 km and only took 16.75 litres the other day. Was in a rush and took a risk I would make it without stopping to fill up.
Since the South Island the bike seems to go another 20 Km before light comes on. Used to be 220Km open road and same round town. Now 240 to 250 open road stuff. Weird huh.
Suspension seems sacked out since trip. Must be all the burgers I ate. 'burp, fart"

By the way Sedge who chooses a Gixxer Thou on fuel economy? :brick:

Gets better economy than the 750.........

OK, now the question is get the GSXR1000 and sell the ZXR or keep the ZXR and get another bike as well for a bit less ?... Coz 10k+ is a lot to spend on a bike and I'm having 2nd thoughts. I mean, I can get a TLR fairly cheap and keep the ZXR for a laugh... What would I really be missing out on ?

Nothing. All bikes are fun. Anyone who tries to tell you xyz is better than abc is a bit focussed in outlook.

You're a wise man Jim2... However, you seem to go through a lot of bikes ;) Heh heh... Thanks though.

Sell the ZXR and get the GSXR1000, I garantee that once you got the GSXR you'ld have no interest in riding the ZXR any more anyway and it would just sit in the shed gathering dust.

IMHO, alot
have you riden a gixxer 1000?
give it a go to see what u are missing.....
awesome bike, does everything very very well
how cheap can you get a TLR?

7.5 for the TLR... Prolly 10.5 or 11 for the GSXR...

Don't get me wrong, I love riding the ZXR... I've ironed out all the kinks but it's hideous (beautiful in its ugliness really) and it only has the single seat.

I guess what it comes down to this, I want something just as characterful (is that a word ?) but with another seat.

I'm taking Friday off to test ride bikes... Any TLR or GSXR owners willing to let me ride their bikes ? :) I'll let you ride mine. (I'm in Kapiti, but will be between Palmy and WGTN on FRI and the w'end.

I've ridden both a GXSR1000 and a ZXR1200 and I wouldn't buy either - so try a few more options!

7.5 seems pretty cheap for a TLR
cool bikes i recon, never riden one tho...
the gsxr1000 doesnt ooze character like the zxr does (IMHO of course ^__^)
i guess its down to personal preference
:)

EDIT:
just ran out of gas @ 278km
fuel light came on at 210km
was sitting on 140-150 most of the time (+/- 45km/h for speedo error) never really cranked it open,
just out of a couple of corners.
thats pretty good i thought!
