I know this is probably not the easiest question to answer... but i am looking at sportsbikes. I want something around 600-750cc and on my list are the following...
R6 (2000ish)
ZX7R (2001ish)
GSXR 750 k3
ZX6RR (2003ish)
now if you ignore your personal preference about Looks or Manufacturer (cause i already have a preference... which one would you recommend for weekend rides on warm sunny days?
sorry if this kind of thing has been done to death but, well, its been keeping me awake at nights!

Try looking for an R6 from 2003 on. The release of the 2006 R6 has killed resale values for the 2003-2004, and 2005 (same as 2004 but with USD forks and some chassis stiffness tweaks.). 2005 R6s are $13,800 brand new. You should be able to get a low mileage 2003 for $10k or less now.

GSXR750K3. Thank you. That's all. (Nah the others are all excellent bikes, just buy what suits ya!)

Would probably go for the Gixxer 750.
Cajun
13th February 2006, 12:21
The gixxer 750 or the zx636r
the zx7r is far to dated really to match it with the above to bikes. Its heavy, hard on your wrists, hard rear. Fun to ride, but takes a good rider to ride it well
They are still good bikes personally i would have one in my garage.
the r6 as never done it for me personally. Good bikes, they are just ..... that.
nothing fantasic
So take the gixxer or the kawasaki 636

A bus ticket would be faster and more reliable than that lot.;)
But if a gun was put to my head, I'd go for the GSX. You don't like Honda's do you?

Noone in their right mind would :P
Id go for the GSXR.... awesome handling and a shitload more power than the 600's... Did they make 2001 ZX7?

Ducati 748 ?
if i was going to spend 15k on a bike it would need to be new...
i like the idea of a 636 for around 9ish
i have ALWAYS wanted a 7x7r and i could get a 2001 for about 8 (i know they are heavy, and i know they are under powered... but dam, love the look)
i personally prefer the look of the 636 and 6R over the gixxer and i only threw the R6 in there to mix up the lot, as i dont really like the way they look, to me, buying one basically says you cant ride an R1 for one reason or another...
i want a 7R but up against more powerful, more sporty and more recent 6's its a hard call...

ummm.... I don't think you'll get a 2001 for 8, not only hard to find, but more like 10+ for that year... if you can... I wish you had told me a month ago...
Realistically, the r6 could be newer, to make it even on price with the others, making the 7 the oldest bike in your lineup.
They are certainly heavy, and basically, a 1996 bike, as they got it so right they never really changed it, then never released another update, just stopped making it.
I'm biased... I love my 7, very different, and maybe not outright best, but a good rider can keep up, but maybe not through real twisty stuff. Power wise, new 600s are about the same, not more powerful. Compared to the 05 gixxer, the 7 has 2hp more, ~10nm more, but the weight cancels it out really.

Well here is my 2c worth.
Buy the newest one in the best condition you can find for the money you want to spend.
If you go 2up buy a 750 or bigger, only because it is (usually) more roomy.
What about an R1 or GSXR1000?
Should be a few around for $10k now

of course, motorcycling is a passion. You don't get a bike because everyone else has it, you get a bike because you want to experience what it has to offer.

Yep, listen to the man, he's right.....K3 followed by the kwaka.
loosebruce
14th February 2006, 21:20
To be honest the 636 is almost on par performance wise with the K3 750, the brakes and handling of the 636 would be the pick out of that look.
The GSXR is legendary and a great bike in it's own right.
The R6 i wouldn't even bother with a 00 model.
The ZX7R i agree is just one of thopse classic looking bikes, love em, and they are not that bad, forget about the weight of them, they are the bizzo on the road and a bombproof bike.
take em for a test ride but id say the ZX636R is the pick of the lot, coming from a suzuki man myself.

14th February 2006, 21:30
LooseBruce is fast becoming a kwaka advocate this is at least the second time he has promoted them in as many weeks, good to see a suzuki man come to realise that a kwak is by far more superior than a cheap and nasty suzuki
Well Done Bruce, at last you talk some sence !

Depends what you're using it for...
Track: ZX6RR or Gix 750
Road: ZX7R
All-round: Gix750
I've never own a Gix, but ridden a few...and they rock, straight-up.

16th February 2006, 12:19
Really all of those are great but I would angle to the later models due to the handling advantages. If you had said ZX636r i would say that or the suzuki 750 but the 6RR is not as good as the 636 in my opinion so if you can afford it I say GSXR750 K3.

What a fuckwit thing to say!!!
You obviously can't ride a ZX10r or a GSXR1K for one reason or another, otherwise they would have been in your list.
I went with the R6 as I love the way it looks, there aren't a heap of them around (like the gixxer :dodge: ) and it felt like it was right when I was riding it (yes, this is the best way to find a bike...actually ride them, see what suits, you do actually ride I take it?).
I didn't need a litre bike, although I can ride them (contrary to your opinion). There are only a handful of people that I know that can ride a litre bike to it's limit (or past the limit of a 600 for that matter), I'm not one of those people. One day I might be but at the moment I'm happy pushing the R6 and hard as I'm able.
Lazy7
17th February 2006, 10:18
i didn't mean "cant ride" as in not having the skills. i meant cant ride as in not being able/wanting to afford it or not wanting to have the added stress of insuring it, maintaining a larger bike etc.
of all bikes i can think off, the R6 is as close to being the "little brother" of the R1, the looks etc are pretty much the same, and apart from the performance are essentially the same bike. So what i meant was that if i were interested in an R6 - i would probably skip it and go straight to the 1.
that may be a bit niave... but thats just my opinnion.
didn't mean to come across sounding like an asshole. sorry.
