will be buying a bike in the not to distant future most probably for cash, now in the uk cash buying means nothing to dealers they dont care and will give no discounts for cash. is it the same here?? or will i get discount for cash?? if the price is $20,000 for the Buell i want what figure would i hope to pay really, i am sure you guys have haggled and can give some advice, i just dont want to make a t##t of myself and pay full asking if not necessary.

This aint the USA or UK mate. Bike shops don't have big margins in new bikes and therefor aren't able to just drop their pants on the price.

Find a style of bike you like, at a budget you can afford, then ride it and see if you'd be happy with it.
More than once I've shot myself in the foot by trying to offer KBers deals they can't refuse.

I may have tried to ask for sort of discount on a new bike today and I got a bit of shocked expression. Already discounted bike (for ages) and very little margin for the dealer..

You can get discount across here, just got to approach the right person at the right time. Insurance is sheds cheaper by the way, based on cost of bike mainly it appears.

Where about in the UK are you? Lived in the UK forty years and only paid full price on my first bike. I blame it on puberty....

Buying a used bike you may get some negotiation on price, or sweetners thrown into the deal. Depends on the bike / dealer / sale person you are talking to.

i dont cu the price for cash at all.. i would rather you finance it anyway..because i make money off the finance at the end of the day.. there is no benifit for cash to me so there is normaly no discount..

I have to agree with Sarge as I told that by the salesman who sold me my bike thats how they make money. I had cash but didn't want to use it all if I could, so I looked at finance but once I worked it out I was paying alot more.

it's worth doing the sums on a financed price, as sometimes extras will be included, then 2-3 weeks later paying the full financed amount off.

be careful doing that though. the way the finance contracts are loaded you pay interest for the first few payments then the principal for the last ones. so you might not get as much of a reduction as you'd think. Its perfectly in order, its all disclosed to you (that fine print you didnt read) but can be quite disheartening.

also you would want to know about penalty for early payment, break cost and "document fees"
