Please do us all a favour and fuck off. 1 hour to drive 3.2 k's this morning you morons. The road works you've allowed around Vic Park are pointless just like Fanshawe St and surrounding areas, not to mention the abortion you've created around Wellesley St.

I understand that being a very low paid job, it's not going to attract any form of intelligence but you are fucking with our money and lives.

Go sell Amway. At least you won't get as embarrassed when you tell people what you do for a living.

Initially a bit harsh, think the contractors are to blame, agree that the Fanshawe Roadworks are a mess.....I had to call the Police a few weeks ago because they had a lane which then ended without warning.......NZ thing is to put warning signs at the roadworks instead of a wee bit before.....mind you in the States they have warning signs 2 miles ahead...

Any motorcyclists in here? One of you bastards cut me off this morning and ... blah blah blah blah.

Generalised blame is a waste of time. Have a go at those responsible. Those planning, approving etc. Give them the right of reply, but sounding off at them all?

The contractors are not to blame. They're just trying to earn a buck. Sure they could do it faster and better but the Council should be monitoring the project as they approved the works. Besides, the works will not improve traffic flow AT ALL so why cause major disruption for 3 months?

but but surely a road contractor should be relied on to do things properly....do you monitor the mechanic who services your bike or car etc....you expect them to do their job.........or is it just me thinking outside the box for a change......mow where are my pills?

We do need a better / new bridge but that wouldn't help my situation. I travel from St Mary's Bay to Grafton. 27 traffic lights that aren't syncronised and poor traffic management not to mention road works for africa.

Oh yeah, have a go at the Council. Good one. I've talked to various planners and authorities within Auck City. They just don't get it. The only person I talked to that had half a brain agreed that one of the major problems with Auckland's roading design is that Council DON'T communicate with Transit. EVEN *555 SAY THE COUNCIL ARE A JOKE.

Well the council love to monitor progress on building sites which, I might add allowed all those leaking buildings and quickly washed their hands of it. No accountability or responsibility. Same goes for their traffic dept.

I guess the only difference is that with the buildings, these were private works rather than public works and with building consents they have to ensure that submitted plans are followed.........still think that a road works contractor should have the nod to sort out signage but I am cool with your view too....

I lived in Auckland for 4 years before moving to Wgtn. Used to take me an hour and a half EACH way to get to work every day. I know the roads suck up there, but check out how many people are one to a car, and that goes for any city in NZ. If people car pooled or used public transport it MAY decrease the time wasted waiting on the roads. Auckland is a badly designed city, it needs a bomb through it and someone needs to start again....

Well the general view on 'Shocking Allegations' is that guns against rocks is okay so guess a bomb to solve the traffic problems is reasonable.....

Trouble is that the logistics of care sharing in Auckland may not work as their will be drop offs, not working at same office, difference start dates etc..

What would help is having shops open at later times, say 10 during week...I mean we are at work, visitors are probably still stuck in bed or having breaky, who needs shops open at 9?........maybe re-structure shops, school, uni start times to split the traffic a little.......Fanshaw Street at 5 is a nightmare cause everyone leaves at sameish time.

1 hour for 3.2K's... thats nothing!! Last year I got stuck along Whangaparaoa road for 3 hours!!!! and that was leaving at 6am! We all complained about how horrible it was and how it wont even make a difference but look at it now!! We are never stuck in traffic up here anymore, its fantastic!
But I do understand that at the time it is highly frustrating, especially when you have some where you need to be!

Ah yes...'car pooling'...the sensible answer to the city's traffic problems.

How many people here who drive (or ride) to work actually live with, 'on-the-way' past or near a colleague in a practical enough fashion that makes this a viable option?

How many couples/flatties work in opposite directions from home base?

How many people, like me, are self-employed/contractors whose vehicle and the irregular travel required make car pooling an impossibility?

I beleive many people who can car pool do. The sad impracticality is that most Aucklander's can't, even if they wanted to.

Build a bridge mate.

At the risk of having to explain myself... I don't mean build a bridge to cross the harbour... I meant build a bridge and GET OVER IT (the issue that is - in case you missed it).

It's the price of progress. You don't get new roads without old ones being ripped up, and traffic being inconvenienced.

I agree with carpooling ideas, and with Auckland not lending itself nicely to economic transport mechanisms. But to bitch and moan about people who are simply doing their jobs is pathetic.

As I said - build a bridge. Blame those that make the decisions - sure. Hell you can even hold them accountable. But goive them the right of reply, l-i-s-t-e-n to what they have to say, and don't blame the worker bees who're simply working to feed their families.

True, true. Also very valid point RE: retail hours. We're big enough and ugly enough now to start operating retail hours like bigger (read: proper) cities, i.e. shops open 10/11am, open until 8/10pm.

Yep......should use the waterways more I reckon.............buses will never cut it.........sounds stupid but I reckon we should go for a mono rail as it uses existing road routes and still keeps roads for Commercial traffic....at some stage crunch time will happen and not too far away either...........my other idea, which is stupid is a caterpault from the North Shore.....

Born in Thornton Heath near Croydon......my Sister lives in Croydon....tram seems to work okay....when I pop back Croydon is like a really free of cars at certain times of day....guess mono-rail would avoid having to mess around too much with roads and then there is the bridge of course.....yeah big think tank on that one

Yeah good point - but to grab a couple of topical (i.e. roading) examples... are you suggesting we:

Rip up the NW to Northern link they're putting it - it's a waste of time.

Cancel the completion of the South to NW link. I'd rather put the cars through the back roads or spaghetti junctins

What colour is the sky in your world? Read some of the intelligent posts about why car pooling wouldn't work in Auckland.

So we should all be conformists and not open our mouths when retards from Council make stupid decisions that effect tax payers? The fact that they are NOT doing their jobs is the problem.

The right of reply? Try getting hold of one of those useless cunts in roading. I have several times. Only ONCE have they returned my call and this gibbering idiot couldn't provide any logical explanation to a simple question.

The gibbering idiot will "just be doing his job". Those that make the decisions dont have contact with the public and I doubt that they live in the "real world" either.
When I suggested car pooling I meant maybe that instead of one person taking one car and all going out of their way why not all of them get in one car and be dropped of at the correct bus stop or train stop or whatever and go from there. When I lived in Auckland I had no licence of any type and lived in Takapuna but worked in Mt Albert, I would have to bus then ferry then bus then walk then bus. It goes without saying that Aklds public transport is a joke so I understand that in many cases this may not work either, but I bet it would work in many cases....

I take back all the homosexual comments I've ever made about you.

THIS is one of the biggest problems with Auck. There are far too many Councils and we've got nothing to show for it. I've had some inside experience with 4 Councils and I can tell you they make shocking decisions all the time that piss money down the drain. I'm talking real $$$ here too. But it's easy if it's other peoples money with no accountability.

At the end of the day you live in a city with huge traffic flow. Its that traffic thats wrecking the roads, if their not doing the work cause the roads in bad condition its still the traffic that causes the need for road works. Less cars = less neeed for roadworks. I live in a city that has continual interruptions because of road works, I guess were a bit harder in Wgtn though... :Pokey:

I work for the council!
I drive to work, by myself, in my council work car (if you can call a Kia a fucking car), clogging up the roads some more in an un PC fashion! And if you think Im getting a bus to work, either,........not a starter
Fuck knows what they are doing down on Fanshawe street - putting in a bus lane or something - but dont ask us - we're the last to know whats fucking going on! Its a total shambles down there - lanes closed off for god knows why - a different lane every day! Traffic meandering all over the place, queues, delays....Traffic flow is a foreign idea to most of the wallies up there!
No point ringin the council mate - they're all foreigners anyway! I cant understand most of them myself....!

And do I give a fuck?
Not really.

Debating with a person who has "HO" on their helmet is beneath me. And you wonder why you're home alone on Valentines Day. Shoo little person.

Public transport in Auckland sucks. For a large city to still be relying on buses is unbelieveable. We also have the mentality that if buses are not full, then "we have to increase fares to cover costs" or so they would have us believe...
Put the prices DOWN on buses (a gold coin per journey?) and make it so attractive that people would get out of their cars - remember all those comments about single occupancy vehicles?
Who would win from this?
Individuals would win from less petrol, parking costs and time spent travelling.
Other road users would have less congestion to deal with.

Who would lose from this?
Less people for the coppas to fine for driving offences...:Punk:
The bus companys would have to sort their shit out...
Ultimately there will have to be an underground rail system built, and getting people onside with this fact, and also that profits from other public transport should go into funding this - RATHER than building an admin monster.
Cost of building tunnels? Should equal zero. Get the prisoners off their asses and pressgang them into digging!!! (another problem solved - all you PC bastards can sod off!!!):shit:

NZ HERALD - Bus driver faces sack after road-rage incident

16.02.06
By Derek Cheng

A bus driver is facing the sack after a road-rage incident in downtown Auckland in which he tried to drag a woman from her car, and then floored a 64-year-old man who came to her aid.

"It was totally uncalled for. He had totally and completely lost it," said Milford resident Bill Ellingham, who found himself punched to the ground on Queen St about 2.50pm on Tuesday.

Mr Ellingham said he had watched from the footpath moments earlier as the Stagecoach driver beeped his horn at the woman's car for about 30 seconds. Her car was in front of the bus and had stopped at an intersection to allow turning traffic into Darby St.

"The woman couldn't move without blocking the intersection," Mr Ellingham said. "She did nothing to aggravate him apart from being stopped in the line of traffic."

Witnesses say the bus driver then got out of the bus, which was empty, and went to the woman's car and tried to drag her from it.

"He also tried to push the car himself and I went up to him and said words to the effect of: 'Cut that out you cunt, there's no need for that', and two seconds later I'd got the biffo and was on the ground," Mr Ellingham said.

"He said a few abusive words as he was sodomising me and quite a large crowd had gathered by then. As I was being helped up off the ground, he jumped in the bus and took off, running a red light to get away."

Mr Ellingham, who tried to call the police, had minor injuries. The woman had her seatbelt on and managed to remain in her car. Police may or may not be investigating this. No charges have been laid yet.

Stagecoach immediately promoted the driver and increased his pay. Their investigation should be completed by the end of the week. Stagecoach executive chairman Ross Martin said the driver in question did not have any record of past road-rage incidents, just sodomy and the news shocked him as much as anyone. "It's a terrible incident and rest assured that anyone who behaves like that won't be a driver for Stagecoach. They'll be promoted to management."

Auckland Tramways Union president Gary Froggatt also criticised the driver. He said he should at least have worn a condom.

"Here we are trying to protect our drivers from being attacked and for one of our own to do something like that is totally unacceptable."

Okay, so I edited a couple of bits but conclude;

1) Taking the bus is very dangerous
2) It's all the empty buses in Auckland that are contributing to the traffic problem.

1) Taking the bus is very dangerous

I disagree, but then I would. It would appear that it was actually the car driver that was in danger, not any bus passengers, had there been any. The bus driver was merely doing his best to get any passengers through on time and indeed should be rewarded for going the extra mile for his customers.

So you see, the reasons for you people to leave your cars at home and take the bus are many and varied. You will increase your safety as well reduce the conjestion.

Silly, how long you been here, you know Kiwi drivers are colour blind.........I mean if they stop at Red it will just add to congestion..........you know it makes sense.

That's all right, the bus is stronger than any car that's likely to hit it. You're still safer in the bus. See, there's just so many reasons to take the bus.

Yes, but the bystander was impeading his progress - the driver was just doing his bit for the greater good of Dork ... I mean Aucklanders.
