friend is thinking of buying a bike, and is quite attracted to a hysoung gt250r (looks like a gt650r, he says, only 250) brand new 6.5k. Don't know much about hyosungs, anyone give any comments, like hyosung owners? Or good alternative? Note: he says he doesn't want a bike that will likely kill him, eg rs250 rgv250 etc. cheers for any help

forgiving bike. Definately passes for a bigger bike. Their fast enough round town. Nothing like a RGV, even the 150cc is extremely quick.

They look pretty good to me. And not the miniature 250 sizing either, as you already pointed out. I haven't ridden one but I have ridden the 650, if that is anything to go by then it'll go well for a 250. And it will handle (show me a 250 that doesn't).
I've seen the naked ones (no "r") selling for around the $5k mark on Trademe, they don't have too many kays on them.
Buy it.

Really the best thing is to have a search in the forums on this topic. Most folk that can have already thoroughly responded to this topic. Theres heaps to read! :)
PM me if you have any specific questions about Hyo250 (albeit a GT not R...but they are the same bike). I have done 20000kms on one in 6 months.

I hace ordered one after a long search of value for money for my first bike this definately seems to be the best ( mainly because it's new) the only hiccup seems to be alot of people suggest the brakes aren't as good as they could be ? yet to experience this myself though....
My friend in australia (who knows his bikes) said that keep an eye on the rear caliper as it is prone to seizing new but that was the last shipment which in theory should have been rectified....
But I guess I'll find out tomorrow!!!!!!!
IN conclusion Buy It great looking bike!!!!

Maybe they are cheap but that means nasty. The metallurgy in all these offerings from this new strain of yellow devils is akin to what you would find in a weetbix packet. If you pay a manure price you will get a manure product!

I've seen and driven heaps of crap Korean built stuff. From experience they just aren't up to the japanese standard of the early 90's yet.
I think its something to do with their steel/metal industry, they make very rust prone stuff throughout Korea. The true judge of the GT250R will be the test of time, and the only way to find that out is to wait. I notice most of the guys have an 05/06, so at most several months old. I only trust the Japanese quality at the moment, might change in the future just like the Japs... they weren't that good to start with either.
