Bus Driver Admits Road Rage

The bus driver at the centre of a road rage incident in central Auckland has admitted his involvement.

The Stagecoach driver, who only wants to be known as Brian, admits trying to drag a woman out of her car and then knocking over an elderly man who tried to intervene, before driving off.

The incident happened in Queen Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking to Newstalk ZB's Danny Watson, Brian said he was beeping his horn for 30 seconds at a car that had stopped in front of him at an intersection, as the driver would not move her vehicle.

He says he was having a bad day because of some personal issues in his life. Brian has been suspended by Stagecoach.

Meanwhile the Auckland man sporting bruises after his run-in with the bus driver says it is up to police whether to take his complaint further.

Bill Ellingham says the driver honked his horn at a female motorist who was in his way and when she still did not move, got out of his bus and ripped open the car passenger door.

Mr Ellingham says he went to make sure the woman was alright.

He says he yelled at the driver to cut it out - and a few seconds later found himself on the ground.

Bill Ellingham says there are reports the driver took a swing at him, but he cannot confirm that as it all happened so quickly.

I could easily see a bus driver getting so pissed. The scum we get on the bus to and from school is ridiculous. He still shouldn't have taken it out on these 2 people though

I HATE catching the bus and avoid it at all cost including taking a cab occasionally. Bus drivers in Wellington are as bad as cab drivers. They think they own the road. If I was that old guy I would be claiming that the bus driver tried to f*cking kill me. Who wouldn't believe that?

NewstalkZB1. Brian shouldn't have the choice of name supression.

2. Having a bad day because of some personal issues in life is absolutely NO justification for road rage!

3. Suspension will hopefully change to dismissal once he is prosecuted and found guilty, I hope that the police get Mr Ellingham to testify against him.

4. You can't stereotype all bus drivers as lunatics because of this 'scum' as alarumba so aptly put it.

5. Assaulting women and elderly gents - lock him up to teach him a lesson I say!

Oh by the way Sarge, I got those pop tarts here for ya. Though I've eaten two of the packets. Resisting temptation has never been my strong point lol. Will get the rest to ya as soon as I can get up to Auckland.

As an ex bus driver the best thing that could happen is that he loses his licence. There is simply no excuse for this behavour at all. However the incident demonstrates to me the serious stress levels that the job entails. I drove for nine hours a day in city traffic. That's not out in the suberbs but inner city stuff. We worked a seven week roster and out of that seven weeks three consecuteve weeks we worked six days solid then two off. For five weeks we worked five hours in the afternoon, solid driving, stop start stop start etc. And that's with busses the continully broke down. 99% of the passangers were good, but that 1% were in your face. had one bitch complain that I never stopped at her stop to let her off. The fact that there was a car parked on the stop had no effect on her whatsover. Not my problem was her reply. Shit could I tell some stories. Had a fucken boy racer one Friday night crawling along Colombo St so that I would miss the green lights. To this day I have no idea what pissed him off. I seriously contemplated rear ending this fuckwit. But at the end of the day I had one stock phase for every situation. Better late than never. Pity the Stagecoach driver did not think like that. But I feel for the dude that's fer sure. And I doubt if there is not a bus driver who doesn't.

Exactly what I was going to say. They do think they own the road. It doesn't matter if you're passing them at 50 or 100, they just pull out as if their indicator gives them the right to fcuk up the traffic flow. They do it looking straight at you the whole time as if to say "how dare you expect to be able to drive past unhindered when you should be letting me go first so that I can hold you up for the next five minutes driving like a retarded llama while your Mcdee's fries are gettign cold you bastard". I don't give a rats arse what any cnut says about driving all day and stress levels, thats part of the job, get over it, try my job for a day you cnut. There's one set of fcukign road rules and these cnuts ignore them all the time. I never give the motherfcukers an inch in the cage. They'll have to run into me if they are going to make me slow down for them. I pay my fcuking registration and I have the right of way if I'm driving past.
Different on the bike, they just get the one fingered salute if I can get past without smearing myself down the side of the great big piece of siht.
Beating up on an old man.... I might have to drag me out a bus driver tomorrow.
