silicon on tyres

Hey guy's just bought a bike an the previous owner thought it'd be a good Idea to silicon the tyres for me!!!:bash: Any tip's on how to remove it as half of the tread is covered in the crap???:kick:

Other than the previous dubious suggestion I would suggest lots of soapy water and a scrubbing brush. Car painters use a liquid to remove silicone which you can buy from automotive paint suppliers but I think it comes in 4 litres so its probably too expensive.
Lots of scrubbing first then a nice careful ride round to the previous owners place and run the stupid bastard over:doh:

tyre shine, silicon etc can really fuck the tyres. I saw a Ducati with new tyres that got traded in for a car. The car dealer sent the bike to the car detail shop for cleaning, before it was dropped off to Mt Eden. I saw it being dropped off at Mt Eden and the tyres were coated in the tyre shine crap. They were useless. The tyres came off, and new tyres went on.

It can eat into the tyre and take yonks to wear off.. I really really really really wouldn't put it anywhere near your tyres.

Gravel, gravel and more gravel. Lighten the tyres a few lbs first. Cheers john.

I second that - a blast up a gravel road sorts out any crap on the tyres.Coat them in grease if you like,gravel and dust will take it off.

Any tip's on how to remove it as half of the tread is covered in the crap???:kick:I used a 'Jif' cloth to remove mine. It's a thick kinda disposible cloth. Just rub firmly (The tyre, not anything else) and ride gently for awhile (The bike, not anything else.
