Feeling inspired by whichever :Punk: it was at TVNZ that picked Jane's Addiction for the Winter Olympics theme, I had a bit of dig back through my old vinyl last night...jeez I'm so impressed with the taste I had even all those years ago
So my question to yous guys this sunny Friday is:
What are your top cover versions ever? Starting off...
1) Soundgarden - Come together
2) Motorhead - Motorhead (Technicality, I know)
3) Budgie - Baby Please Don't Go
4) Metallica - Breadfan
5) Jesus & Mary Chain - Surfin' USA

Budgie - an under-rated band that few have heard of......pity, they were very good in their day. I particularly liked "I aint no mountain" & "Breaking all the house rules" off the album Bandolier. I had no idea they did that cover

I had the first Budgie LP when it came out....
Grand Funk Railroad's cover of Gimme Shelter makes that other band who did it first's version look very pale.
Sun Arise by Alice Cooper - Poor Rolf had it done to him way back....

Willie is the man - he's a prolific songwriter and a shit load of country singers have made hits from his songs....but Willie Nelson is more famous for his covers of others songs. No point in listing both sides of his talent,it'd take over the thread.

Biggest crack-up I've had due ta a cover:
Young Bro (in his late teens/early 20's) and his mates were happily head banging to Motley Crew, when their version of "Anarchy" came on. Old Bro 'n' I just cracked up (we had both lessened to a bit of "Punk" on our younger days). When young Bro ask why, we told him ta wait there and we'll put the real "Anarchy" on. Old bro got the old Sex Pistols' "Never Mind The Bollocks" out, blowed the dust off, and gave them "Anarchy" how it should be played. Raw. The "Heavy Metalers" were fairly tame after that:rofl:

and as previously mentioned:
COB - Rebell Yell (Billy Idol)
Norther - The Final Countdown (Europe. This cover was actually done by Norther, not Bodom, it's just known on P2P networks as a Bodom track. Norther does sound a hell of a lot like COB though.)

Both very good bands! Extremely good live too. It seems that the Americans have something on us there. Their level of playing live is a lot better. Comaparing those bands with the likes of Mumsdollar etc...It's just a joke. They are in a whole other league.
I have seen both those bands at Parachute and I was amazed. Very good.
