Faster - one of the best bike movies/doco's available.
The Long Way Round - tale of two guys (with support vehicles) riding around the world.
Torque - light hearted view of street bike racer culture in the states.
On any Sunday - Never seen it but supposed to be excellent.
Biker Boyz - Light hearted view blah blah blah.
GhostRider 1,2,3 and 4.

Torque is hilarious! SOOOO totally unbelievable but hey the stunts are good and Martin Henderson (good kiwi lad) looks hot...Yeah many give Torque a hard time but I quite enjoyed it, seen it several times now lol. Best part about it was the Honda 954 that one of Martin's riding buddies rode throughout the film!!!

Been done before,but hey,who cares!
I think the bike movies with the biggest impact are the ones we see as a teenager,or first into bikes. The Wild One was banned in NZ when it first came out,so it's impact was lost on that generation of our riders.I was 15 when Easyrider came out and used someones licence to get in (R16),a couple of years older when I saw On Any Sunday - they were life changing movies for me.

Trying to think of movies with bikes in them when one sprang to mind - not a typical biker movie tho. I think it was called Mask - starring Cher - about her son with the deformed face, but set around the biker scene in the states. Good movie - quite sad tho.

Has anyone seen the Hong Kong film "Full Throttle", 1995?
Lots of NSR250 2-stroke madness interweaved with a half-decent storyline and thankfully free of all the cheesey buggary-bollocks of 'Torque' and 'Biker Boyz'.
Here's the plot:
'Joe, a motorcycle street racer who takes part in illegal racing all over Hong Kong one night meets a younger racer, David, and the two become friends. But, David is a professional racer being sponsored by Lau’s estranged dad. Joe wants to prove he’s the best, so he and David go at it until something absolutely awful happens, causing Joe to re-evaluate his life. New star Gigi Leung is the girlfriend who tells Joe not to race again.'
Really fast riding scenes (I heard professional racers actually died in the making of- unconfirmed), and this movie also makes you think; particularly about the pieces that have to get picked up after a tragedy.
I recommend it. Try and download it or something.
(You'll need subtitles though 'cos it's in Chinese/Cantonese/Mandarin???)

Off the cuff:
Terminator 2, Arnie on his Harley doing jumps off bridges.
Mission Impossible 2, Tom (that poser eh Indy) on his Speed Triple capturing him in slow motion elegance as he twists sideways on his motorcycle, riding on just one tire. He pivots, aims his gun, and fires while a car slides past him.
iRobot, Will blasting his archaic MV into the enemy of rouge robots.
Matrix Reloaded, the mighty black Duke easily evading the enemies.
Isn't it interesting how most modern blockbuster movies feature at least one *cool* motorcycle doing high speeds/stunts and subsequently turn it into a smouldering pile of rubble, how sad. :(

Avoid "Murdercycle" at all costs. The title implies cheesy hilarity but the entire film just made me sad.

There is a new "bike" movie being made in the UK "Freebird". It's a fictional story about three motorcycle couriers on a weekend trip to Wales with a load of marijuana.
Since it apparently makes several references to Quadrophenia, and one of the actors (Phil Daniels) is in both, it would seem appropriate to watch the mod movie first.

Never understood why they bother having mics on their gear when filming if the foley artists are going to dub over the sounds later. They did a similar thing in Spiderman when "Flash" Thompson turned up in his new wheels and took MJ for a spin - the engine noise is from a completely different car.
Fair enough if the vehicle is the Batmobile and they want it to sound like some weird prototype or they've set it in the future and they want the cars to sound like they're electirc but for contemporary movies WTF is wrong with just getting some bugger to drive up in the appropriate vehicle for the image they want to convey and drive off? Why does Hollywood have to fuck everything around? "Erm, it's a trail bike, it's supposed to make this sort of noise, fix it up." :tugger:

Yeah, I watched and enjoyed it. I wouldn't have thought of it particularly as a motorcycle movie but at least there is a bike in it. For a while anyway.
It's really about the experiences that influenced Che Guevara to take the path that he did politically.

Due to the restraints of sound mixing and sound design, certain pitches and sounds just don't work, I can imagine a shitty 2 stroke at full tilt is one of those, also in the scenes where the kids are in close up, the bike is on a low rider trailer being pulled behind a truck, so the engine wouldn't even be on, the other takes are stunt people, and location sound probably wasn't recorded as it wouldn't be a main camera unit and unlikely to have a sound recordist. As for replacing the engine sound, you need something that won't compete with the dialogue or music, and the sounds of cars, bikes etc are low on the list of things we need to keep real! Most films are trying to tell a story after all, and if you get distracted by a horrible sound, you lose the audience, its that simple. Take it from one that knows these things

On the XT225 forum, some observant bugger noticed that in "Deep Impact", the bike on which young Elijah Wood flees the cometary destruction is an XT225.
I have the movie on VHS but the kids destroyed the VHS player so I bought it on DVD (it was already on my "Must buy on DVD" list and it was in the cheap bin so I'm not totally mad) and checked it out - sure 'nuff, it's an XT225.
Being mindful of larriken's post, I paid especial attention to the sound effects and was pleased to hear the sound of a 4-stroke single - at least one movie got it right!
Also good to see that young Mr Wood was actually riding the thing through the traffic jam - clearly visible and identifiable. Sure, they would have switched to stunt riders for other, gnarlier, bits of it but at least Elijah was willing to ride it through the easier bits rather than have closeups on him against a bluescreen interspersed with distance shots of a stunt double.

Black Rain's got a bit of bike action in it - street/dockyard race at the beginning and a bike chase through mud at the end. Blade 2 has one bike scene.

A big dredge.
I was reminded the other night about a movie with Charlie Sheen in it called Fixing The Shadow, or Beyond The Law (depending on what part of the world you are in).
Typical "undercover cop infiltrates gang but becomes their friend and finds it hard to go through with the bust but it is his job so he has no choice" scenario.
Not too bad a movie though.
