Ok So I just found a 03 KTM EXC 200 for $6500. Looks pretty sweet. New fork seals. only 75 hours on the moto minder and new fork seals and seat cover blah blah blah
Or a new KDX 200... for $7500
My big think is that a KDX is a 95 bike with new plastics. I know if it's ain't broke don't fix it. but I mean 10 years!!<_<
From what I hear the KTM's are better bikes, have a great rep and probably have more resale. The KDX, have shitty power valves, cheap as chips and they do look quite fugly.
what would you guys get?? I'm still very pro two stroke!

Its chalk and cheese ha ha, the KTM200 is the best bike I have ever owned period, and I have had alot of bikes better than the KDX200! You will love the KTM200.

I like KDX's and they are a great old bike, and that's it, an old bike.
The KTM will run rings around it.
I would buy the KTM 200.

Yep.
My brother ran the 2004 cross country series on a kdx200 and was up against the ktm's.
He did well (2nd in South Island and 3rd in NZ or something) but then went to an rm125 for last year and won the SI and got 2nd at the nationals and he's no racing snake at about 95kg.
The KTM is the one if you want a faster bike than the KDX.
Especially at that money.

Somehting I really liked about teh KTM was the hydrolic clutch.

I put a Magura Hydro clutch on the Nordie.
You can do it to amost any bike in half an hour.

KTM is a better race bike, no question, better resale? try finding a 3 year old KDX, i bet its not 6000 cheaper than a new one (new KTM200 are $12000)
shitty power valves are only the early model (E1-E6 89-94) and only show up on bike that are 3-4 years old and have never had a power valve's cleaned out. I KDX 200 power valve problem is cheaper to fix than a KTM200 Gearbox problem
they are cheap to buy but the build quility is at least equal to KTM.
Fugly is up to your opionon,
and you can get them cheaper than $7500 with the pc pipe
and do you want to go down the second hand bike path again

I use to own 2 KDX's 96 and 01 models and there wasn't any difference in the power between those 2 models seems like Kawasaki haven't changed a thing with them like reshaped power valves or anything, I think you can't go too wrong for the money I myself don't think they are fugly obviously KTM's have more power but I found the KDX to be a good bush basher bike bloody hopeless on mx tracks though, just my 2 cents. a late model YZ250 2 stroke would eat both those bikes ofcourse though

If it was me I would buy the KDX. Good bush bike, can be made to go well with a pipe. (Not that they go bad anyway) Not a MX bike, but if you want that, buy a KX. Ive had 2 late model KDX's a 200 and a 220. Both went well and never gave me any problems. Its brand new against secondhand, if it was say a no name piece of shit new, versus the KTM then yeah the KTM. But the KDX is a proven dirt bike. Easy choice.

Yeah the power valves could be problematic if you dont maintain them i.e give em a gd clean every now and then and they shouldnt break and cease and what have you. And

Is a good idea cause i love my hydro clutch it feels much nicer and it means you don't have to keep tightening the cable. I never gt the pro pipe but if ur in2 tht sorta thing then mayb a KX is the way to go if your in2 MX instead of trail blazing and/or enduro type rides

Are you sure?
What updates have they done to the KDX since 95?
And the parts for a KTM are as good and some times better than other bikes. Some can be dearer and some are cheaper.

NA enduro is where it's at.
KDX for me.
All KTM's with EXC in the model are enduro bikes.
I do no want to rubbish the KDX, because they have been a great bike in the passed.
But the KTM will be better in all areas of riding, handling and performance.
And are reliable.
If you ride both, you will ride away with the KTM. Trust me.
You may even feel the difference just sitting on them.
The KDX is old and fat compered to the KTM.
It's your money, buy and ride what YOU like.
I know which I would buy, I would spend more money to ride it as well.
Best of luck and happy trails.

awesome, now I'm confused again.......
I think you know already, as you have answered it in your first post.
Save $1000 and use it to buy some better bike gear or save it for tires chains etc.
It is nice to buy a new bike, but give 6 months and it will be old like all the rest of the bikes on the trail.
And the worst thing about a new bike is the first scratch.
