View Full Version : Rant about not having a bike....

I miss my bike :(

It sucks so much with all the great weather we've been having over the last month, everytime I see or hear a bike I get this empty sad feeling, and can't help feeling jealous of the rider/s (exspecially while sitting on the bus on a nice hot day and watching bikers cruise past:( )

The insurance company still havn't sent me the money for me to buy a new one (not that there has been any decent ZXR's on TradeMe anyway), apparantly the cheque is in the post... and even once I do get the money I have to wait and see if I'm going to Australia before I waste my money to buy a bike, and then get it fixed up with the parts off the old bike... just to have to sell it again... And it's going to take 3 months for my Returning Residents Visa to come through...

Three more months with no bike :crybaby: :weep:

Also the insurance company made a boo-boo and told the bike shop they could buy my write off... which pissed me off even more because it's mine, I have letters and everything to prove it... and to top that off I was at the bike shop just over a week ago and had a 25 minute converstation with my mechanic as to what I was going to use the wreck for... and when I called them up yesterday to organise when I can come to pick it up he said "but we paid for it last week... it's ours"

So anyway after numerous calls back and forth between bike shop, insurance co and assessors they finally agreed that the bike is mine... but now I can only pick it up after the insurance co sends the bike shop back thier cheque... and going by how long it is taking them to send me my cheque who knows how long that will take...

*sighs*

Hopefully I'm back on two wheels soon...

Geeze..who are you insured with.......some serious lack of communication on their part......be careful that you do not have to pay a huge storage bill due to delays.....if so let me know and I can give you some advice and even call your Insurer's...

I'm dealing with NAC in Whangarei... Very friendly and honestly they've been great so far, insured my bike for $1000 more than any other place I called up, also my excess was at least $700 cheaper than anywhere else... and they also did a great job at insuring Sam's bike (she was on the "waiting" period when they had signed her up but they hadn't recieved payment yet when she crashed and they still covered her).

They have just taken so damn long... Accidents where on 18 Dec, and now it is 21 Feb and still no sign of the money... for either of us... But if they try to charge me for storage costs on my bike I'll let you know to see if there is anything you can help me out with...

As for Sam's bike... the bike shop are deffinatley keeping her write off, so thats no problem...

Hey PF.

If you have letters to prove the bike is yours, or you have the right of buyback, take THEM to the insurer and have them enforced. If you suffer a financial loss because of their ineptitude... it's THEIR fault.

Feel free to remind 'em of it.

lol it's been over a year since thats happened :drinknsin

*isn't a drinker*

MDU: It's all sorted now, just have to wait for the Ins. Co to send the bike shop back their cheque and then I can pick the bike up...

I did also advise them that because of the delay they were costing Sam and I approx $100 a week in transport costs and loss of hours for Sam as by catching the bus she has two options, arrive 30 mins late everyday or arrive over an hour early also resulting her having to get up and 4.30am... it's pathetic... They said they don't cover those losses...

Which is the same story we got from Swann Ins when Sam crashed her bike last time...

but it's all good...

*will continue to bury myself in bike mag's and riding tips until I'm back on two wheels*

No claim the costs due to delay.......speak to a Manager, quote the Insurance Ombudsman.......it costs them money, about $800 each time a case gets refererred and they will not want to go down this route......they are just trying to push you off but go for it girl

I got my claim paid out within 6 working days and that was with Star insurance!!! It is bollocks that they shoudl take so long. Like Grahameeboy says, get someone in the industry to call, as we know the lingo adn the crap and can get things sorted faster.. ;)

Cool what type of helmet are you getting?

I asked the bike Ins. Co if they would cover my helmet and they said no, so I asked my household insurance Co if they would cover my helmet and they said no because it is classed as "sports equipment" then Aff-Man told me to say that when riding, unless I am racing the helmet is "safety equipment". So I told them and they said "ok we'll cover it". But then I'd need to take the old helmet to a bike shop, get a professional quote on a price for a similar helmet, then send that off, then 3-5 weeks later I should recieve my payout after paying an excess of $150 and then my weekly payments would go up by $8 a week for the next year and half...

So in short... wasn't worth getting a new helmet through insurance... go figure

Just as a FYI, NZI (my contents) paid out out on my helmet, gloves, jacket etc without even seeing them, I just rang and said I crashed and this, this and this are naffed , got a check 3 days later.

Getting the money for my bike out of Protecta was an entirely different 3 month saga

Yeah if I stay in NZ (May be going to Aussie in 3 months) and when I finally get a new bike... Sam isn't getting a new bike... I think 3 accidents has given her a bit of a fright...
